what happened to smbclient?
I noticed lots of smbclient options are missing in Samba 3.0.14a when compared to 3.0.13 - notably, all user/authentication options - so I can't connect now as a specified user anymore. Is it just my build, or is it "official"? Samba 3.0.14a: # smbclient --usage Usage: [-?] [-?|--help] [--usage] [-R|--name-resolve NAME-RESOLVE-ORDER] [-M|--message HOST] [-I|--ip-address IP]

samba documentation error
Hello I found an issue with samba documentation on the website and in the source archive. The document states to use "-B" with winbindd. There is not a "-B" option for winbindd... I think it was intended to be "-D" ? [root@server source]# /usr/local/samba/sbin/winbindd -B Invalid option -B: unknown option Usage: winbindd [-?] [-?SFDinV] [-?|--help] [--usage]

Updated from 2.2.8a to 3.0b3 gives smbtar newer failure
Hi all, Situation: We use smbtar for backups, incrementals done using -N <last date file>, and this has worked well with samba 2.2.x After upgrading to 3.0b3, using the -N (newer) option to smbtar causes a bad interaction with smbclient. Eg,: # smbtar -s PC -x Share -u User -p Pwd -d / -t - -N last-backup -v gives (if you print out the eval at the end of smbtar script): eval

Samba4 alpha17 GIT raise domain functional level
Hi. We are using samba4 as our production AD for a while in a mixed (XP, win2k3, win7, win2k8) environment. This post: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2011-February/076525.html mentions that to raise the functional level one should use this command: samba-tool domainl evel raise --domain=2008 --forest=2008 but in our current git version this command doesn't work due to the

backup option
Hi, I am using rsync to backup files. Is it possible to specify an option not to delete files from backup directory if the files are deleted from source? In that way, I can always keep something I may or may not need in the backup disk, but remove it from a work computer. Thank you. Kind Regards. hce

samba on NetBSD - some patches
Hi, We (NetBSD) just received a bug report that smbclient's mput command usees find(1) with a non-standard option "-maxdepth". This was replaced with a simple call to ls(1). As I don't know how many of the patches from out Packages Collection were sent to you in the past, I'm simply sending you all our patches - please include any you like in future samba releases! BTW,

rsync algorithm
Hi, I am learning rsync mechanism. My understanding is that rsync reads a file into multiple chunks and calculates every byte for MD5 and rolling checksum for each chunk.. On the other side of file system, it compares two checksums for each chunk in the same file to decide if two files are equal or not. Is it correct? If it is correct, should I worry the calculation time if I have thousands large

Problem with Perl module, SmbClientParser-2.6
Hi, I'm trying to use SmbClientParser to implement a simple SMB crawler. After a lot of effort, I still could not get it to work. Here is my small test script: [CODE] #!/usr/bin/perl use POSIX; use Filesys::SmbClientParser; use DBI(); use Socket; use Sys::Hostname; use strict; my $host; my $smb = new Filesys::SmbClientParser (undef, ( user => '', password

basic WINS/smbclient problems
Hi! Two problems: 1) I can access shares by IP but not by name, so I assume that WINS doesn't do its job for some reason, smb.conf: [global] wins support = yes name resolve order = lmhosts wins hosts bcast 2) I don't quite get it how smbclient works. As I mentioned name resolve does't work and hance smbclient -M MACHINE doesn't either but an IP should work: # nmblookup -A

Ways to make "smbd" use less memory?
I?m looking for ways to make a ?smbd? daemon use less memory. Typically on our system each process uses 160-200MB virtual memory with ~120-140MB as RSS. Now with ~1400 such processes (and clients connected) this uses a lot of memory? Even though some may be shared. It doesn?t look like a memory leak though since it?s pretty stable at those levels. But it still feels pretty bloated... This

Unable to join domain: FAIDHC01SDCG0402
Hi. I am trying to configure Samba in Domain security mode. I am on a Sun box running Solaris 9 and Samba 3.0.23. A computer account for this Unix Box is configured in the AD Domain (FAFIDDOM) but I am having issues running net rpc join. I am not planning to use winbind as the samba shares that I want to create are going to be used by ClearCase (Rational Configuration Management Tool). ClearCase
