Unfortunately it didn't help either. The strange thing is that when I open the "security" tab for a directory on the windows client, I only see the SID numbers of users. The groups are displayed well with names, but the usernames are not displayed, I only see the SIDs. Seems that samba somehow doesnt know how to map or whatever. How can I fix that? Hello, I am attempting to join a Windows 7 computer to a Samba 3.4.5 I setup. When I attempt to join the domain the Windows 7 computer says: "A device attached to this system is not functioning." I'm playing around with samba + LDAP in a test environment. In LDAP root doesn't have a SambaSID:, but root does have a User SID: in pdbedit. Do I need to set the SambaSID in LDAP for the user root, or does it not matter? If so, how? I tried smbpasswd -a, smbldap-useradd, and smbldap-passwd -a and none worked. But I can load the SambaSID in by hand with ldapmodify if I need to.
