Strangest thing (crond every 5 min.)
Hi, I've installed CentOS-4 4 days ago. Now, every 5 minutes, crond opens and close a root session, with no other info. Example: Apr 14 16:25:01 tux crond(pam_unix)[4031]: session opened for user root by (uid=0) Apr 14 16:25:02 tux crond(pam_unix)[4031]: session closed for user root Every five minutes the same thing. I have nothing in /etc/crontab that makes such a thing. Does anyone

Smartest way to evaluate question forms
Hi, I'm trying to help a friend who is doing a thesis in a nurse college, to evaluate medical question forms. There are about 30 questions giving more than 110 parameters to describe each responding person's (gender, health etc.) and there are about 120 question forms to evaluate. I have basically 2 questions. 1. What to search for. 2. How to evaluate it statisticaly. As for No. 1. I have

Using yum variable $releasever reports 1
Hi, I have an old server that originally was a RedHat 8 server. Then I upgraded to RedHat 9, then Tao Linux 1 and last to CentOS 3 when tao was discontinued. Yes I know that this was probably not the smartest thing in the world but now this is the case and I don't want to reinstall it. Now the question. In yum.conf I have distroverpkg=redhat-release and cat /etc/redhat-release gives: CentOS

Function to query ASTDB families
Hi, Asterisk database is made of <family><key> records such as: fam key1 val1 fam key2 val2 ... fam key100 val100 I'm looking for the smartest way to iterate among different keys associated to a given family. One way to do this is to parse "database show fam" response. Is there something smarter ? Something like ${DBKEYS(fam)} which would evaluate to "key1

Dovecot and duplicates
Hi I'm having a problem setting up duplicate filtering on my mail server. I've set up the mail server with Postfix and Dovecot with virtual LDAP users, ClamAV virus scanning. The problem is that some of the virtual users use multiple e-mail addresses and postfix delivers emails sent to a user as many times as the user has email address entries in LDAP. I was wondering what would be

What best decision to make for flatfiles or SQL when I use Dovecot2 + Postfix together?
Hello, I'm moving my mail server from Exchange to an opensource one. After a bunch of reading, I decided on building a Dovecot2 + Postfix server in a VirtualUsers-only + Multiple-domains configuration. Since my messages will be stored by Dovecot, and the documentation is really good, I figured that it's smartest to configure Dovecot, then make Postfix 'fit' to it, sharing the

EXT3 fs error on RAID1 device
Hi all. I have a Dell SC440 running Centos 4.4. It has two 500GB disks in a RAID1 array using linux software raid (md1 is / and md0 is /boot). Recently the root file system was remounted read-only for some reason. The logs don't show anything unusual, presumably the file system was read-only before anythng was logged. Running dmesg showed this error repeated many times: EXT3-fs error (device

boot problem after disk change on raid1
Hello, I have two disks sda and sdb. One of the was broken so I have changed the broken disk with a working one. I started the server in rescue mode, and created the partional table, and added all the partitions to the software raid. *I have added the partitions to the RAID, and reboot.* # mdadm /dev/md0 --add /dev/sdb1 # mdadm /dev/md1 --add /dev/sdb2 # mdadm /dev/md2 --add /dev/sdb3 # mdadm

RAID1 migration - /dev/md1 is not there
I am trying to convert an existing IDE one-disk system to RAID1 using the general strategy found here: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2005-March/003813.html But I am stuck on one thing - when I went to create the second md device with mdadm, # mdadm --create /dev/md1 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/hdb2 missing mdadm: error opening /dev/md1: No such file or directory And indeed,

C7 + UEFI + GPT + RAID1
Hi list, I'm new with UEFI and GPT. For several years I've used MBR partition table. I've installed my system on software raid1 (mdadm) using md0(sda1,sdb1) for swap, md1(sda2, sdb2) for /, md2 (sda3,sdb3) for /home. From several how-to concerning raid1 installation, I must put each partition on a different md devices. I've asked times ago if it's more correct create the

Mine strangest asterisk problem ever ....
Hi there, I'm going mad at this: Asterisk with one HFC isdn card, using the zaptel driver "bristuff" All works ok, but voice coming in/out of the isdn card is out of sync, squelky and disrupted, UNTIL I PUT SOME LOAD TO THE PC, let say launching xwindows. I noticed this: Strong HDD activity = voice is good HDD doing nothing = voice is not good I suppose this could be an

AEC strangest behavior
One thing I can think of is if you are using two or more speakers. If the speakers are not at the exact same distance from the mic, you will get more than one echo. AEC can not handle that. Try disconnecting all but one speaker and see if it makes any difference. cheers Greger 2010/3/15 Anton A. Shpakovsky <saa at tomsksoft.com> > Hello. > > I have the following situation. AEC

Ok. Thanks J-M for clearing that up. What if you mix up the polarity on one speaker (180 degree phase change), would that matter? cheers Greger 2010/3/15 Jean-Marc Valin <Jean-Marc.Valin at usherbrooke.ca> > If more than one speaker receives the *same* signal, it doesn't matter the > number of speakers. It's still all linear. You can even apply a different equalizer to each speaker and it'll still be linear. Jean-Marc > cheers > Greger > > 2010/3/15 Jean-Marc Valin

The strangest problem..
My problem is that I suddenly can't access my linux samba shares from XP or 98. It's worked all week and now - nothing. This also happened about one week ago, then returned to normal function almost by random. I can see the NetBIOS name in the correct workgroup, but not browse it or access any of its shares directly (\\linux\data for instance). I am running my network with a Cisco ADSL
