tdb/tdbutil.c:tdb_chainlock_with_timeout_internal
Hello. I run samba 3.0.21c on RHEL AS 4 EMT_64 U3 and I've experienced a strange problem where smbd will go (and stay) in the D state. While waiting for IO (possibly), these smbd processes do not respond to client requests, thus samba appears to be down. I could not kill these processes via kill -9 , so I rebooted which worked. The only error I could see out of the ordinary would be

Hey Rowland, I wanted to ask a. What is mutex.tdb, what is its purpose? b. why "mutex grab failed" started appearing in messages, what can be the probable reasons? Is pre-authentication failed related to locking failure of mutex.tdb? Accumulating smbd processes and sockets in CLOSE_WAIT state
Hello list Our central fileserver is a Samba 3.0.25b on Solaris 9 and has 10'000 users (several hundreds at the same time). This week it died on us and when I inspected the machine, it was out of 8GB Memory and 16GB Swap because thousands of smbd processes were running. netstat -na showed that many hundreds of connections to port 445 were in CLOSE_WAIT state. We first thought it could be

Moving user accounts from a domain to another - and changing their logins
Hello everyone, I have two domains, let's call them D1 and D2. D1 is: - heavily modified, cumbersome, Linux RH 7.3 based, - samba 2.2 based, - using the old LDAP samba schema, - implementing Unix services/Windows logon SSO via the means of the LDAP schema with Kerberos added in the picture. D2 is: - stock, clean Linux RHEL4 based, - Samba 3.0.11 based, - using the newer Samba SAM LDAP

mac osx charset on linux
Hey there, After searching for quite some time I'm finally just going to ask the people who know :) I'm having trouble when listing the files on a samba share that's hosted on a Mac OS X 10.4 server. The client is an Kubuntu Dapper Linux machine. This happens only when using smbmount (smbfs) and not when I use Konqueror with smb:// . The problem is that files with certain characters

how to view disk labels used by a user for his/her disk shares?
I have a samba pdc. I would like to automatically assign at next logon a disk share with a particular letter that is the same for a group of users (such as L:\). How can I see with samba and/or windows tools what are currently the disk labels used by this group of users so that I can choose accordingly? And in general, is there any smb.conf or other config option that lets me set a unique disk

User connexions stats
Dear samba users/developpers, I would like to make stats on user desktop login/logout and I ask myself if it's possible to do this on the samba PDC. But it doesn't seems to be so easy. Maybe parsing logs or using smbstatus? Is there anyone who did something like this and who can share he's knowledge ;) Or maybe it's ... impossible to get accurate datas about this, I don't

XP Home and samba
I built a small embedded samba server based on Samba 3.0.26b. I tested it locally with XP Pro running in a vmware VM. All worked fine, so I shipped it. Turns out the person using it is running XP Home. Here's her note: I have restarted the computer and waited ten minutes and still nothing. All that comes up is the mshome under the Microsoft Windows Network. So it looks like all

Multiple mount instead of remount?
I'm having issues trying to remount any shares using samba. Super Short version mount -o remount /some_windows_share creates a duplicate mount instead of properly remounting. Full details... I have many shares served off of NT4 boxes, mounted via samba on a linux box (RHEL 4). Since long dormant (>12 hour) shares from one server in particular always have problems for a few seconds when

Samba seems to pause for a long time and do nothing
Hi, I have a problem with Samba (although it may be my hardware, I'm not sure). I have a Linux i386 Samba server that I use for storing music, pictures etc in a small home network which isn't that busy. When I stream music to my laptop I get periods of silence which coincide with periods of network inactivity. These can last up to 50 seconds and can be seen on both the Linux and PC

doc files with attribut r for user
Hi, i upgraded from Debian sarge to etch, so from samba 3.0.14a-3 to 3.0.24 When someone creates/modify a file the user attribut is set to r (instead of rwx) so the next time a user opens the file is's on read only. What can i do so that the file keeps the attribut rwx for the owner ? Another question : the file has the rigthts : -r--rwx--- but although the user is member of the group
