Can't see or change ACLs on Windows
I have samba server joined to a domain that I'm trying to use ads
security and acls on. I can set acls on the Unix file system, and
access from a windows client seems to honor them. I can't view the acls
under the security tab, all I see are the standard Unix permissions
instead. If I try to add an entry to the acl, I get an access denied
error, even if the user is on the list of admin

what is the recommended samba version on solaris?
Guys
I was so frustrated about installing samba with ADS and winbind support
on solaris 8.
After fixing many problems, I am now facing another problem:
I created a directory "test" in the samba share and was editing a file
under the directory "test" and in the meantime the machine was rebooted.
After the machine is started, the
whole directory "test" is gone.

smbpasswd and 8 character limit
The smbpasswd on my PDC (Solaris 9, Samba 3.026a) will truncate or
corrupt passwords over 8 chars.
The smbpasswd command on the linux clients (Samba 3.024a) is OK.
Anyone know if this is a samba version issue or something solaris
specific.
Thanks

Group membership not being honored
I've got a relatively simple permissions scheme I need to implement, and
I'm having issues with group membership.
I have a share that I need to grant an active directory group full
control to. If I add an AD user to the ACL on the directory that is the
root of the share, the user can access it. If I add an AD group to the
ACL on that same directory, group members cannot access the

Restrict permission changes
Hello,
I've a share with preset permissions on different directories including acls.
So in one folder for example users can only read and into other read and write.
Everything works fine. The Problem is if one user decides to change the
permission of a file or directory (via Windows) the acls and permissions get
are messed up.
How can I restrict users from changing permission on a share? I

using chown on server with Domain username
Hi. I'm following this document:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_Samba_as_an_AD_Domain_Member
- setting up my second Samba server in a test environment. We're planning
a medium to large-scale deployment (six sites, 8 domain controllers, 8 NAS
boxes, 120 workstations). I've already set up an AD Controller and
successfully joined a Windows workstation to it.
I got down to

using chown on server with Domain username
Just replied to another thread with the same problem...
This is on a member server, not the DC.
No the second chgrp command with the escaped space doesn't work.
Getent returns big numbers for the uids and gids.... too big, I think.

Samba 4.5.8 ADS user not showing in directory tree - chown "invalid user"
Hi,
I'm currently working on evalutating a AD-Domain for my Department. Since I have a couple of year experince in running a NT-Style Domain, my choice is samba - nowadays AD-DS.
Now I'm stuck, and I would really appreciate some more thoughts and a push in the right direction. :-)
Thank your in advance

chown and AD users
Hi everyone,
I want to set ACL's on some directories for AD users with chown command,
but it doesn't work.
wbinfo -u is ok and return all users. i.e :
DOMAIN\administrator
DOMAIN\user
...
if I try :
#chown -R "DOMAIN\user" /my_dir
I obtain this :
chown: incorrect user : "DOMAIN\\user"
chown systematically "adds" a backslash, but I don't

Cannot chown file to active directory user/group on member server
Hi,
I need to change ownership of server files to user/group defined in active
directory ( using rfc2307 and unix attributes). Chown returns no error, but
'ls -lia' shows that file ownership is unchanged. What am I doing wrong?

Usernames with dots
Now that I have winbind working, life is good. However, I've hit upon a
real kick in the pants.
As you can see from my email address, we have a convention here of
usernames being firstname.lastname. So, when I go to change the owner
ship of a file:
$ chown chris.palmer myfile
Linux thinks I mean user chris, group palmer, and says "invalid group"
(there is no palmer group,

chown: changing ownership of 'test': Invalid argument
Hai Ian,
Can you run this one again on both servers and pm me both outputs.
I'll have a good look.

I've updated the file, so do use the new one.
