Kerberos issue
I am looking for any assistance on a issue I am currently experience with Samba and Kerberos. We have kerberos and LDAP client software on UNIX (HPUX 11.11), which authenticates with AD (Windows 2000) using SFU 3.0. All samba users are stored on Active Directory. The HP newest version of samba I do believe is 3.0.2 which from HP is a beta version. I have worked with HP for several weeks to

How to properly demote a W2003 from Samba4?
Disturbing... Every where I read I see only 5 roles to transfer in windows 2003 server : * /transfer PDC/ * /transfer RID master/ * /transfer infrastructure master/ * /transfer naming master/ * /transfer schema master/ How to transfer the 2 other "roles"? Thanks. Le 15/05/2015 18:03, Andrey Repin a ?crit : > Greetings, Sam! > >>>> Hello all,

Samba 3.0.2a with ADS w2k3 Active Directory, enctypes
Hi, I'm about an article: This is a bug in Win2k3. See knowledgebase KB833708. The KB article itself isn't correct, because it states that if you request des-cbc-crc you'll get des-cbc-md5 tickets, but in reality you get rc4-hmac tickets. The KB article points you to a hotfix or a registry setting. I have the problem with W2003+samba, tried even that patch, but nothing

My Samba 3.0beta1 stopped working as ADS member
I had a working Samba 3.0beta1 as ADS member of a W2003 server. My w2000 client could log in to the W2003 server and use services on Samba (home directory). Winbind is working. So I tried to re-do all my work again. And suddenly the w2k can use any services on Samba anymore. The output from the logfile tells me it's kerberos problem: [2003/06/18 08:35:03, 3] libads/kerberos_verify.c:(126)

ACLs and samba
Hi, I'm having trouble getting ACLs and samba to work on solaris. In a unix shell I can set and get the ACLs with setfacl and getfacl just fine. Connecting with a window machine (w2000/w2003) to samba lets me list the ACLs and even modify them. The problem is creating new ACLs. In the logs I get 20031029/local2.error:Oct 29 16:30:11 test1 smbd[5417]: [ID 702911 local2.error]

Logging AD domain name in access.log
Hi to all. Using Samba 3.0.22 on 2 identical systems (SLES 10). On the first system, Samba logs correctly AD domain name and user in the form DOMAIN+username in access.log. On the second one, it logs only the username, stripping away the domain name. The only difference is that the first system is part of a network with a w2003 server acting as a domain controller, while the second machine talks

Windows 2003 AD/Kerberos Ticket error
I'm attempting to configure Samba 3.0.4 to work with Windows 2003 Active Directory, mapping users' home directories automatically. Currently we use this method in production with Windows 2000 but wish to migrate to 2003. The problem seems to be Kerberos related. I was able to join the Linux box (RedHat 9) to the AD. I can do a "kinit <username>" successfully. Klist shows a

Simplifying User Adding
I was wondering if there is a way Samba can use either the Windows domain or Unix usernames and passwords rather than having to have add another password. We are running HPUX 11 samba 2.0.6 and whenever we have to add a new user (once or twice a month) we have to add them to the Windows domain, the Unix passwd file and then set them up in Samba for a password. is there a simpler way? gssapi-with-mic and Win2K KDC?
Upgrading to the 3.8.x versions of OpenSSH appears to have broken support for Win2K KDC's. Win2K supports gssapi just fine, but the new gssapi-with-mic does not appear to work. I was able to use the old 3.6.x versions with Kerberos authentication, and the newer 3.7.x versions with gssapi authentication, but 3.8.x does not seem to work at all. The mitm patch provided for 3.8p1 does work, but

high network traffic
hello I'm experiencing problems with samba (2.2.7a on linux & 3.0.15 on hp-ux) with windows xp (sp2) clients to make it short, an application reads and writes files on a share when the share is on a windows (2003) server, the network traffic is "normal" when the share is on a samba server, the network traffic is very high and the application response time increases very badly I

Performance of samba in linux vs windows
I'm doing some performance tests on a samba NAS server and I've found some interesting statistics: I'm doing my performance tests in linux using: # time dd if=somelargefileovershare of=/dev/null bs=1M count=100 Then calculating the bandwidth For windows I'm low-tech: stopwatch plus drag-n-drop of a large file (any recommendations on a 'simple' windows program that will

Samba and Terminal Server Whitepaper
Attached is a 500KB read-only .doc file with a Samba and Terminal Server whitepaper. I have tried to hit every known issue and all available workarounds. If anyone has comments or suggestions, let me know. JT has it, so it should end up in the next How-To. Sorry about the file format, but the .pdf was 2.5MB, which I thought was too big to post. HPUX 11.00 & CIFS/9000 Server - Domain authentication problem
Hi, I have been using Samba and CIFS/9000 happily with security=user for some time now, for simple read-only filesharing. Three days ago I decided to get a bit more clever.... I now have a test server and I'm trying to get it to work against our Win2K PDC (UKNT19), which is running Active Directory in native mode for our Windows domain UKNT001. The UNIX server (uk209) is HPUX 11.00 and the

Can't see or change ACLs on Windows
I have samba server joined to a domain that I'm trying to use ads security and acls on. I can set acls on the Unix file system, and access from a windows client seems to honor them. I can't view the acls under the security tab, all I see are the standard Unix permissions instead. If I try to add an entry to the acl, I get an access denied error, even if the user is on the list of admin
