Using LDAP and Unix Group Group Mappings
Hello all, I could not find anything in the discussion groups or documentation about using LDAP and Unix group mappings. The documentation states that in order to map unix groups to samba groups, you need to use the net group add command. However, I have an ldap backend and all my groups, that I care about are in LDAP. So I have a group called mainwdev. dn:

ACL problem under FC9
Hi list, This is my first post and I hope I will not make people mad as this may have been answered before. Here it goes. I am running Samba for some years now (3 years) and had absolutely no problems. For the last month on one of the machines the NT ACL stopped working and everyone have full access everywhere even if they are not in the acl. If I try to add them and restrict them only to read

Race Condition In PHP Session Handler
php-5.3.3-3.el6_2.6.x86_64 2.6.32-220.4.2.el6.x86_64 After some testing we moved our production PHP intranet site from an old server to a new CentOS 6.2 instance running the mentioned versions. At first it worked well and then user's started to experience a hung site. Upon some digging it appears that the PHP module is getting stuck in a race condition regarding the sessions file - [root at

slightly OT: LDAP Server
Hello List, we are currently looking for a Ubuntu server setup (ideally v. 6.06) with authentication and authorisation based on OpenLDAP for all services. The needed services are Samba (PDC), Apache (htaccess), Squid, OpenXchange, NIS. Does someone have such a setup and is willing to share? We don?t want to reinvent the wheel since time is money :) I am looking forward for your reply. :o)

Access Windows AD share From Linux
I am trying to mount and access a Windows share, from one of our Active Directory servers to one of our RedHat Enterprise 4 Linux hosts. I have used Samba in the past to do the opposite, which worked very well. I was successful in mounting the share, using the following: mount -t smbfs -o username=<myid>,password=<mypassword> //<AD Server>/<Share> /mnt/app1

Samba, ldap, password complexity, cracklib - questions
Hallo, we run a Redhat samba 3.5.4 PDC with openldap 2.4 as user/passwordbackend. The ldap also contains the posix information for the users to login to some web/mail/etc. servers. I'm faced with the task to implement a 'both worlds' compatible paswword sync process regarding complexity etc. For the posix account password we use a webfrontend, configure to use pam/cracklib checks

re: editposix setup
Oh dear, I apologise for my typo in subject. Obviously it should mean: EDITPOSIX SETUP. > Hi, > > i've setup the samba environment like described in the wiki: > http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix > > I can now easily add windows user / machines when using the policies for > "Administrator". > > I have also setup unix account session

Samba 4 minimum requirements
Hi Version 4.0.0alpha18-GIT-bfc7481 We are having problems in keeping this build up. samba -i is the only way we can keep samba up. samba and samba -i -M single fail under load e.g. when 2 clients log in at the same time. The samba processes are not killed. Our test resources are limited. Are there any minimum requirements? Thanks Steve

roaming profiles in a home environment
Hi all, I think I know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway to be sure that I've got it right. My home network consists of a Vista box that is used for TV only, my workstation, and our laptop. Both the workstation and the laptop are used by my wife and me. The laptop is on the wifi network. I then have a fedora FC6 box that is running samba and I'm trying to expand it from a

What makes excel file opening so slow??
Hi list, Despite the question I asked last time (I will re-install the FC3 with Samba 3.0.14a on another computer for replacement soon), I still have one more question on Excel files. I found that Excel file opening is extremely slow (especially on slow connections, i.e. VPN). The case is really bad, it takes around 2 mins to open a excel file of around 400k. Actually we got both side having

Samba vscan VFS Module
I'm trying to configure Samba's vscan on-access VFS module on a box with a working CLAM installation. [CLAM is merrily scanning mail on this box via clamav-milter]. I've set this up before, but this time it seems to be giving me grief. If I remove the vscan-clamav module then everything works, and I can open files. When I try to open a file with the module enable I just get a file

MySQL/file system question
Hello listmates, I got a rather strange situation that I can't quite make sense of. OK, I've got a very large data file to sort (hundreds of millions of lines) and I decided to use MySQL for the purpose. I inserted the stuff into a table easily enough. Then I decided to sort it and got stuck as it turned out that MySQL, unless specifically configured to do otherwise, puts temporary files

Samba 4 roaming profiles
Hi everyone This is our first proper test of Samba 4 and we've been up with an opensuse server, an ubuntu client, an opensuse client and a win 7 client. 24 hours without a problem:) 1. We have got as far as deciding where roaming profiles should go. In 3.6 we had them inside the users home folder. Someone said that was not good. Going with the Samba 4 wiki, we put them in

Understanding ldap auth credentials
I'm try to create a single sign on configuration for a home fileserver, storing user accounts in the directory and using those credentials to authenticate Linux shell logins, server applications and PDC logins. I have NSS working correctly and am trying to extend my LDAP schema to accommodate Samba. For the benefit of my own understanding, I'm trying to make the necessary changes to my

Do you know any web application, script (working with apache) that allow users to change their ldap passwords (smaba passwords and passwd passwords). Samba vs Microsoft Logon Protocols
Hello, I am trying to figure out how the different values for "max protocol" and "min protocol" (as seen in the smb.conf man page under the "max protocol" section) correlate to the Microsoft jargon for the different logon protocols. Here is what I've determined. Could some please verify this for me? Samba Microsoft CORE

iptables: comprehensive tutorial for CentOS?
Hello listmates, I know this may sound stupid... but I am trying to set up a firewall/filter/forwarder using CentOS 5.5 machine as a platform and I am succeeding but only partially. Fro example, I am literally trying to forward HTTP and HTTPS (TCP 80 and 443) from the public interface to a private IP and TCP 80 works like a charm whereas TCP 443 seems to be a no-go. To that effect: does anyone

Authentication with Multi-OS Environment
Hello All, I'm coming back to working with Samba after not having touched for 5 years or so. Samba itself has grown quite a bit from the looks of things, and I've definitely forgotten a lot of things in the meantime, so this re-introduction is bound to be interesting. I'm being asked to come up with an all-in-one fileserver solution which will serve the following operating
