net rpc vampire -> segmentation fault
Hi all, I am trying to migrate NT4 domain to Samba-3 PDC, yet I stuck at migrating NT4 PDC information using "net rpc vampire" -- giving "segmentation fault". Any help? I use: Debian Linux, Samba 3.0.21a-Debian The steps that I did: a. In NT's server manager, I created GL-BACKUP as BDC b. Here is my smb.conf [global] workgroup = GLNET netbios name =

Fwd: Re: Migrate NT domain 4 to samba
I tried "net lookup dc" and samba PDC did not show. The NT machine we have has been shut down and not functional anymore. Right now, we only have one linux box with gentoo running samba and we want it to be the PDC. Migrate NT domain 4 to samba
I have been following the Chapter 9 on Samba -3 by example book on "How to Migrate NT 4 domain to samba 3" and not having any luck at all. Somehow the vampire command will not work and give me an error: Fetching DOMAIN database Failed to fetch domain database: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED What I want to accomplish is to remove Windows NT 4.0 server as PDC and make Samba our Primary

aggregate text column by a few rows
Hi, R function aggregate can only take summary stats functions, can I aggregate text columns? For example, for the dataframe below, > a <- rbind(data.frame(id=1, name='Tom', hobby='fishing'),data.frame(id=1, name='Tom', hobby='reading'),data.frame(id=2, name='Mary', hobby='reading'),data.frame(id=3, name='John',

Help in performing a Half-Migration from NT to samba3.
I am currently planning "half a migration" (and half a new configuration) from NT to Samba PDC, and I would like to have some help. I have read the howto and I have understood something useful, but I also understood that I don't know enough of Samba domain internals to be sure not to make terrible mistakes. I currently have a NT4 PDC that also shares files and

Bad passwords from Vampire / NT migration
I just did a clean install of Fedora 9 onto a Pentium 4 machine. It is actually running SELinux enforcing, but I haven't found any errors related to that so far. It is running Samba 3.2.3-0.20. I am trying to migrate a Windows NT 4.0 domain with about 30 users and 30 computers onto a pure Samba setup, using Samba as the PDC and tdbsam. I have read the HOWTO guide extensively, and

Unable to access share on Encrypted Partition
Hi, I would like some help. I am trying to set-up a share on an Encrypted Partition of my Home Server. I'm using opensuse 11.4 with samba version 3.5.7-3.5.1-2573-SUSE-SL11.4-i386. This is something that I know has worked with earlier versions of openSuSE and samba. My smb.conf looks like this: ==START== [global] workgroup = buffalonet passdb backend = tdbsam printing = cups

Scripts for NT Server Tools Handling
With the "add user script" and "add group script" etc. parameters, are these scripts executed before or after Samba actually adds the user to its password backend? I would guess that it is executed before, so that the UNIX user is ready for Samba. However, this is a problem because I'd like to be able to configure further options for the user in tdbsam at creation time

Roaming Profiles Load Very Slowly
Hi! Looking for a bit of help! I have been using Linux for a while as a hobby, and can get around it pretty quickly. I have created a Gentoo Samba server and set it as PDC with roaming profiles (there are several other services running on the server as well). I can login with my XP machines and the profile is downloaded to the machine but it is VERY VERY VERY slow. After a login is

NT Migration Auth Problem with NIS & Samba3
Hello, I have been working to migrate away from my failing NT PDC to Samba (3.0.23d) on a Solaris 8 server running NIS. Passwords, etc.. are kept in /etc/yp/passwd, and the passwd command is used to change passwords (not yppasswd). I have used the vampire command to migrate all user accounts from the NT machine, while Samba acts as the BDC. This appears to work correctly, and output from

Machine account in smbpasswd is wrong
Hallo, I can't join a win2K machine on my domain. I create the machine account dynamically in my smb.conf by the following line: add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 200 -s /bin/false -M %u Now a machine account is created and added to my users (this part works ok) Samba also generates a machine account for samba (I could not find a line for that in my smb.conf) But the

high number of processes
Hi, Sometimes a script kiddie tries to guess passwords on our mailserver (Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, postfix, dovecot 1.2.9, scanners, the standard stuff). That leads to a nagios message about the high number of processes. The number goes above 500. Nagios threshold is set to 250, which is more than enough for normal operation of this server. When are these processes supposed to die again? They seem to

NT/UNIX username mapping possible directly via tdbsam?
Hello everyone, I've been wondering if NT and UNIX username mapping can be done directly via the SAM database instead of the 'username map = <filename>' option in smb.conf. The problem with 'username map' files is that the mappings seem to work only in one direction, namely from NT towards UNIX usernames. However, I'd like to achieve a true, bi-directional

Map multiple NT users to the same Unix user with tdbsam
Hi! I have an NTFS partition on an USB HDD mounted with uid=1000, gid=1000. Several users should be able to backup to that partition via Samba shares. They should be able to log in each with their own user/pass. I'd rather not have a separate unix account (/etc/passwd) for each of them (plus that runs into trouble with the uid==gid==1000 problem on the NTFS partition; I'd rather not

[LLVMdev] [cfe-dev] Adding new target for hobby OS
This concerns me as well. I've accepted a programming bounty to port LLVM to AROS x86. Once that's done I suspect many people will want it ported to the other processors AROS supports. ----- Original Message ---- > From: Bjarke Walling <bjarke.walling at gmail.com> > To: cfe-dev at cs.uiuc.edu > Sent: Sat, April 9, 2011 2:06:30 PM > Subject: [cfe-dev] Adding new

important caveat with Rsync on NT and daylight savings time
That's actually a very good suggestion. First I figured that in this way files changed within the hour after creation would be ignored, but they probably represent a very small minority anyway. On the other hand, this does not really rectify the situation, but will allow us to postpone the real sync again until, let's say a holiday, where we have plenty of time to sync. Rgds, Bart

pdbedit and password expiration
I have been working to get pdbedit to expire passwords. I have seen several bugs related to pdbedit (bugzilla bug 4630 for example) on 3.0.25 so I upgraded to 3.0.25a, the latest Samba version as of this writing. What I am trying to do is set a particular user's password to expire on a certain date. If that can't be done, the ability to set it to expire "now" would be my

Domain Administrator problems
Hi All, I have a tdbsam backend on Samba PDC and am trying to set a user up as a domain admin. I read that instead of the old admin users line in smb.conf you now use net groupmap to map unix groups to NT groups. I have a user called toni in unix group admins and have run: net groupmap add rid=512 ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=admins running: net groupmap list gives: Domain
