I don't have any lines in my configuration file for any of the servers, how can I tell what the default protocols are? Are the defaults controlled by samba or the kernel? use spnego question - samba 47 to samba48 migration
Hi Rowland, Thanks Much for the help, as usual! About Kerberos: Yes, I have implemented Kerberos and NTLM. I need both working. About winbindd_privileged: Not sure what you mean with " I think you might want to check that again, the 'winbindd_privileged' dir went away quite some time ago." Shouldn't that folder be there anymore? Everytime I install Samba47 or 48 it creates

DOS clients problem with 3.6.22 vs 3.6.18
I have tried to upgrade our samba server from 3.6.18 to 3.6.22 but found that our DOS clients could no longer connect (using DOS 6.22 and Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1). With 3.6.18 we use smb.conf setting 'min protocol = LANMAN2' and it works great, with 3.6.22 although clients can connect ok, they cannot obtain a directory listing. Instead the first file (sometimes misnamed) just

Passwords fail from Win95 but not from DOS (Samba 1.9.16p11/NetBSD)
Hi, I'm having some problems with Samba 1.9.16p11 on a Sun3/60 running NetBSD 1.2. I have a Win95 client and a couple of DOS clients on a single ethernet segment (it's at home :-). I've set up a simple configuration, intention was just to serve files from the Sun to the PC's. Everything works perfectly except authentication from the Win95 client. I can connect to the Samba shares

How to force NTLMv1 on server side?
I know NTLMv1 isn't secure and NTLMv2 is better. But I need to test a client's NTMLv1 compatibility when the server does not support NTLMv2 and to do that I need samba (current version 3.0.33 via CentOS 4) to not try to negotiate NTMLv2. All the searches I've done tell me how to enable NTLMv2, but specifying: [global] encrypt passwords = yes ntlm auth = yes

hp officejet 9130 and samba
we're using an hp officejet 9130 (all in one printer/scanner), wich has the possibility to store scans on a network share (smb). path, username and password are checked on a workstation and are ok. the printer has full access to the network. unfortunally samba denies access: <snip filename="log.smbd"> [2005/10/06 14:46:22, 0] smbd/negprot.c:reply_negprot(557) No protocol

In CMD nothing happend. - Afterwards Vista refuses to shut down. - Creating an File on the Share and saving it from within notepad does not cause any trouble. - Limiting protocol to lanman2 seems to help

MS DOS client : solution
Hello, I finally found a solution to allow basic MS DOS client 3.0 redirector to work with Samba. I'm sure you'll find it ugly, but it works. Under CORE protocol, the $"#&^ MS client sends unencrypted passwords to the samba server (maybe there is no support of encryption in CORE, I don't know). So as my clients are either W95, WfW, NT or DOS machines, I simply remove the
