group membership issue?
Hey List-
running samba 3.0.23b
I have an issue with a single member of a group not being able to get write
access to a share that all the other members have access to. I have checked
the file permissions and they look good to me. Any thoughts on where to look
or solve this? Below is some info.

wierd message
Hey List-
I keep having issues with my Master Browser and a OS X machine.
Master Browser: samba 3.0.23 (freebsd 6)

The OS X keeps causing the system to reset and throwing logs like this:

samba and proftpd authentication
Hey List-
Since samba is in the middle..trying here first.
I have a samba FreeBSD box as just a member server which was authenticating
against a samba PDC. For other reasons we migrated that to a Win2003 ADS box.
I got the member server to join the ADS domain and users who are logged in can
browse the shares, etc... without issue. The problem I have is that proftpd
(via PAM) is no longer

wpi driver freeze on boot
I've got a HP dv8000 laptop. Setting up the wpi driver for wireless freezes
the system on boot with the following error:
wpi0 requested unsupported memory range
wpi0: could not allocate memory resource
It lists a pcbi device (pcbi4 i think) and an actual memory range, but since I
have to reboot using kernel.old the /var/run/dmesg.boot is wiped with the
info. Is there anyway to grab the

samba4 domain member and multiple domains
Hello.
I've got a samba4 domain member server. It works fine for the joined
domain, but I'm not able to let user from a different domain get
access. This worked fine on my samba3 member server, but I don't
remember if I did anything special.
I do have authentication set on the AD object for the users in
question and we have a one-way trust with the other domain. All DCs

backing up samba?
Hey List-
What are the appropriate files to be backing up on a samba PDC?
I'm thinking:
smb.conf
/usr/local/etc/samba/ directory
/var/db/samba/ directory
/etc/passwd & /etc/master.passwd
This is running on FreeBSD as the PDC of the domain. If I need to rebuild or
wipe and upgrade this box I do not want to have to re-install all the Windows
clients into the domain and into the

member server can't authenticate users?
Hey List-
I've got 2 samba servers.
PDC: FreeBSD 5.4; samba: 3.0.23 ? name: bugs
member server: FreeBSD 6-stable; samba: 3.0.23 ? name: daffy
note: config files are at the bottom of the email
The PDC was running an older version, but I just upgraded and it didn't fix
the below issue. The member server was running fine with the old smb.conf
file, but I rebuilt the server and now it

As no solution was found so far, I am re-posting it on the hope that

Wierd Problem
OK everything was working fine before I went to lunch but when I came back I
could no longer see the Samba printer or shares so I rebooted the machine
and saw that all the services started. I checked swat and it states the smb
and nmbd are running and all the shares are there. Also before I left I
could ssh into the machine and now I can't do that either. I can ping the
machine and Windows can

Wierd Error "The directory name is invalid", Moving to 2.2?
Hello,
I have samba setup as a PDC, user level security, and I have some wierd
errors on Win2k clients (I know they cant join the domain etc).
In a nutshell, when i double-click a file such as:
\\server\share\x.txt in explorer, it gives a "The directory name is invalid
error". I can, though, do a sendto->notepad and it works fine. I also can
file|open->file in notepad.

wierd duration shown in progress with 0 byte files
While trying out the 2.6.4-pre2, I noticed something wierd with
--progress; it shows:
ads/promotions.MYD
0 100% 0.00kB/s 519:35:46 (61, 56.3% of 597)
This is quite reproducable whenever an empty file is transferred (or
created on the receiving end).
Commandline used was:
rsync -zave 'ssh -c arcfour' --progress --stats --delete lisa:/var/lib/mysql/ .

Wierd error logging into Samba 2.2.5 from Winxp
Hello. I have a network with a server running Samba 2.2.5. I just recieved a laptop from Compaq with winxp on it. I already have a few winxp boxes on my network connecting to the Samba server just fine so I though setting up this laptop should be a breeze but after I change the required registry entries on this laptop (the "requires sign or seal registry entry to 0") It gives me the

Multiple computers using same Wine installation?
Hey guys,
I have two Linux computers. I'd like to make it so that regardless of which Linux computer I'm sitting at, I can fire up Quicken (via Wine). Specifically, I want to access the same set of Quicken data files regardless of which Linux computer I'm sitting at. (I can be self-disciplined to only have Wine running on one computer at a time.)
Does Wine support this? If so, would

Wierd traceroute/routing problem
Hello,
I''m having a very strange problem concerning traceroute and routing
and didn''t know if lartc or netfilter would be the correct choice for

I have the following setup:
