group mapping on a member server - winbindd and solaris 10
>From what I can tell it does look as if I have to run winbindd on member servers, even if NIS is used, to get SID's mapping consistently across the domain. The PDC is Samba 3.025a on Solaris 10. Two member servers are Samba 3.025a on solaris 9. If i start winbindd on a memv, the "wbinfo -u" and "wbinfo -g" commands show my users and groups. However, the

group mapping on a member server
I have installed a Samba 3.025a PDC and 2 member servers. All on solaris. (The Samba PDC replaced a NT4 PDC. Account data was migrated with the "net vampire" command.) All solaris machines use NIS. On the PDC i created group mappings between the NIS groups and the Windows groups. I can access file shares on all machines from Win XP or Win 2000 clients. On the security properties of

Suddenly Windows clients can't join Samba+ldap PDC anymore
Are you running a wins server (maybe you already mentioned this.) That tends to help minimize some classic samba issues. On my PDC root at mypdc:~# testparm -v | more Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (256) to minimum Windows limit (16384) Processing section "[netlogon]" WARNING: The

Call timed out: server did not respond...
Hello All, I don't know how, but I managed to get my no logon server found error to go away, but now I am experiencing another problem. When I run "net join ads -d 3" I get the following error message. I know it's authenticating, because if I enter an incorrect password it says "The username or password was not correct." So it's accessing the correct server, but

Suddenly Windows clients can't join Samba+ldap PDC anymore
Hi, thanks a lot for your reply. Yes, i enabled wins through "wins support = yes", i also enabled lmhosts lookup and wins on all clients but will check it as you proposed. Tomorrow will try to disable ipv6 on Windows clients following this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929852 Which process did you follow to disable IPV6? I'm also wondering if it's really necessary

Domain authentication not working
Hi all. I'm trying to share a printer out via samba, and it's suddenly stopped working. Samba says it's connecting to the DC, but then returning NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER. It wasn't doing this earlier today. I haven't changed anything in the top half of the smb.conf file ... only the print-related stuff. Any ideas? The log is saying: [2007/05/21 11:40:26, 3]

Unable to join domain: FAIDHC01SDCG0402
Hi. I am trying to configure Samba in Domain security mode. I am on a Sun box running Solaris 9 and Samba 3.0.23. A computer account for this Unix Box is configured in the AD Domain (FAFIDDOM) but I am having issues running net rpc join. I am not planning to use winbind as the samba shares that I want to create are going to be used by ClearCase (Rational Configuration Management Tool). ClearCase

SAMBA ADS integration - windows user account rights
Hi all, first of all is it possible to join a Linux machine to AD using a windows user account that is not a member of the group Domain Admins? Joining a win2k3 ads fails
Hello, I'm trying to join a win2k3 ADS domain using a working config on a debian 'Lenny' (arm processor) from another machine running gentoo (x86 processor) (only changed the netbios name). Samba versions are 3.0.26a on both the machines. I'm pretty sure this is not a kerberos or ldap problem, anyone has a clue what else it could be? # net -d 3 ads join -U administrator

Synology NAS Samba Upgrade breaks "Classic" domain membership
Hi, I am not sure it's the same issue, but I had a similar problem when upgrading from DSM 5.x to 6.0 : error after domain join : "Connection failed. Please check your network settings" . With the help of the (very efficient) Synology support, we solved the problem by uninstalling an old Cluster HA DSM package that was installed on the NAS but not used. Just in case it could help.

RPC Error with PC Netlink - additional info
Some additional info: The solaris server is Solaris 10 (sparc.) According to man smb.conf, "enable asu support = yes" creates an IPC only "ADMIN$" share. Using the computer management tool from a Windows machine I could verify this was the case. However, the "ADMIN$" share on the PC Netlink server is actually a data share. I did try "enable asu support =

troule switching winbind to use a new AD 2008
I have been using 2003 AD servers for winbind for many years, and now 2008 is phasing in, but I can't authenticate using the new servers, and I'm not sure what to do. All advice very welcome. This is a problem for me on both Gentoo (samba 3.0.33) and Debian Lenny (samba 3.0.24). For debugging, I ran winbind interactively and piped output to a file (winbindd -d 3 -i). I have also

Member server - group and user mapping with winbind
Hi all I am still unsure of the correct way to configure member servers. I have one PDC (Samba 3.026a on Solaris 9) and several member servers (including Samba 3.026a on Solaris 9 and 10, and Samba 3.024 on Fedora core 6.) Each machine uses NIS for unix accounts. The "Samba by Examble" Book indicates that even if I am using NIS for user accounts, and not using LDAP for a idmap
