Windows Vista Woes PLZ help
Hi guys i asked about this a couple days ago but i'm guessing everyone
glanced over it.
So here's my problem.
I have a SambaPDC with LDAP
With WinXP i can join/login the domain fine.
With WinVista i can join the domain but can't login to it after i join
to the domain. It gives me an RPC failure. I noticed that it doesn't
seem to even find the PDC.
I don't even get any

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello,
I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows
Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is
successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled
correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting
thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue
for Windows XP roaming

Samba 3 PDC with Vista clients
I searched around and couldn't get a clear answer on a Samba 3 PDC and the
ability to have a Vista "business edition" client:
1. Join the Samba 3 PDC domain for single sign-on.
2. Access Samba 3 PDC controlled shares
I read that as of Samba 3.0.21 or so that NTLMv2 works well with Vista
computers (which default to only NTLMv2) so they can work with Samba
provided shares. This is

WG: Samba 3.0.28a PDC and Vista Clients
Did you have profile files written?
With Xp it is profiles.V2.
I made my profile-path reside in the home directories of the users
And it worked on the fly
Ex:
[homes]
path=/windows/winuser/%U
[profiles]
path=/windows/winuser/%U/profile

The use of goup policies in XP and Vista
Hi all,
Can anyone point me in the right direction to apply Group Policies from a
Samba 3.0.26 PDC to my Windows XP and Vista clients. I read chapter 26 of
the Samba manual (dated April 3 2003) and I was wondering if the
NTConfig.POL file in the NETLOGON share is the way to go here?
Regards,
Joost.

Chainloading from Vista x64 bootloader to Extlinux?
Hi syslinux list,
Some months ago, hpa was kind enough to help me troubleshoot booting
Extlinux in a system with the following particulars:
* Windows Vista x64 bootloader in the MBR and Vista installed in /dev/sda1
* Extlinux 3.72 installed in the first sector of /dev/sda2 and Foresight
Linux installed in /dev/sda2 (at the time I tried, 3.72 was the default
bootloader in Foresight)
The problem

Samba 3.0.28a PDC and Vista Clients
I'm trying to get my samba PDC to work with Vista clients. I'm thinking
it's because of NTLMv2. I would rather not disable that on the clients if
possible. I tried:
client ntlmv2 auth = yes
in the config file but that didn't work. I can login to the domain but it
doesn't see my profile. But I know it works because after I'm logged in I
navigate to my profile

Windows 7/Vista problem with offline files synchronization - samba 3.5.4 domain controller
While using SAMBA 3.5.4 as a primary domain controller for Windows
Workstations I have problems with offline files synchronization.
While using Windows XP everything works great, there is still no
problems with machines with XP.
Problems started with Vista Business, there is a lot of synchronization
conflicts. Windows 7 also have problems with proper offline files
synchronization. Most

Samba 3.2.3 as a PDC will not load profiles with Vista
Hi, I'm having a Samba 3.2.3 that is running has a PDC and it is working
quite well with XP. When I try to login with Vista it can not load the
profiles so I'm getting a message saying that I'm using a temporary
profile and it will be lost on next reboot. My home drive is map, I have
access to my profile. So I really don't understand why can't I put my
profile in the

Samba+LDAP: Vista clients logging out upon logon
We have a network of 12 Vista machines with a Samba PDC/LDAP server.
For the most part,
things are working great. Our users are annoyed (to a high degree) by
the occasional
requirement to logon twice.
Since this just happened to me, I'll describe it: I typed
CTRL-ALT-DELETE on a Vista
client, and was presented with the logon dialog. After entering my
password (the
username was

WG: Windows vista ultimate samba 3.0.31
I found the solution:
I tried the srvmgr tool from microsoft to get connected to my samba 3
domain (from an XP client).
And this tool told me the same "There is no PDC found for your domain.
You may go on but but your rights may be
Restricted." As I logged on I saw that both my PDC and BDC where BDCs.
I stopped my BDC. Logged on to my PDC and remembering that I had also

Windows 7 Beta and Samba PDC
Hi all,
I've been playing around with the Windows 7 Beta to see if it's viable
for our company and I've been testing it with samba. I've been able to
browse shares via \\server\sharename without a problem but I'm unable to
get it to connect to the samba pdc (which currently works fine with XP /
Vista).
The error is "The following error occurred attempting to join the

Vista Read/Write performance
Hello.
I am setting up a smb server running debian etch for a small office.
Due to circumstances outside my control, most of the client machines are
running Windows Vista Ultimate. The shares are all set up properly,
security is set, and we're good to go.
Except that the throughput from any of the Vista machines to the server
is at best slow and at worst abysmal. After tweaking the

Vista SP1, Server 2008 joining NT4/Samba Domain
Hello!
It seems, that Vista SP1 and Server 2008 cannot join an NT4/Samba-domain.
Vista once could join before SP1, if one did some modifications to the
system (LAN Manager authentication level, Encryption of secure channel).
But these workarounds do not seem to work with SP1 anymore.
Microsoft points out that joining NT4-domains with Vista SP1 and Server
2008 is not supported/tested

Improved Windows Vista compatibility
Duncan Murdoch and I have been working on Vista compatibility.
The first build of R-2.5.1-win32.exe was built with a version of the
installer that had some compatibility issues, and it has been rebuilt
under the latest version. What now happens is that if you want to install
R in an adminstrative area you need to select 'Run as Administrator' when
running the installer: otherwise the

Windows Vista 64-bit support
Where does the R build for Vista X64 stand? The last update message is
from July last year (see [R] Improved Windows Vista compatibility from
Prof Brian Ripley on 2007-07-11). Is it likely to happen in 2008? I
suspect that more people will start using it as Vista is adopted more
widely. And I'd certainly use it for large genomics data sets.
Thanks,

Tinn-R looses connection to R (Windows Vista)
Hi everyone,
I wonder, if anyone can help me with this annoying issue, although it is
related to Tinn-R and Windows Vista...
I am running R 2.11.1 and Tinn-R 2.3.5.2 together. I saved 2 R-hotkeys:
ALT+A for sending the whole content of one file and ALT+S for a selection
from one file from Tinn-R to R. Everything works fine with other windows
versions, also with Vista at the beginning of every

Windows Workgroup, private network with a Windows Vista PC sharing a folder
for full access to a specific user name. The share is browsable and
readable from other PCs on the network.
I can mount the share on linux (Debian /Ubuntu) with no errors BUT have no
permissions on the mount point once mounted (see below).
