configuration needed to load roaming profiles off of a BDC?
I have a PDC named GOMER with IP 10.8.3.37 and a BDC named BLDG1 with IP 10.8.3.231, both in the domain ADAMSTEST. I have a user testuser who logged in successfully to GOMER and has a roaming profile in /var/lib/samba/profiles/testuser. So I changed the TCP/IP settings of the windows XP computer testuser uses from the WINS server of 10.8.3.37 to 10.8.3.231 so it would use BLDG1 for

Roaming Profiles problem
Background: I've setup my server (name:firewall) to acts as a PDC, and to use roaming profiles. I am using Windows XP with sp1 on the client machines. Problem: When I login to my domain (panacea) I get the following error-message: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile and is attempting to log

--include-from doesn't include
I'm trying to backup certain pieces of my XP workstations home directory to a mapped drive using rsync on Cygwin. I was able to create a fairly useful exclude-from list, but I'm unable to re-include portions a subset of an excluded directory. My rsync command looks like this: rsync -avn --delete --stats ~/ \ /cygdrive/i/HRMS/rdavies/backup/home \

WinXP - Not So Roaming profile
Hi folks, I am trying to deploy an LDAP based Samba3 PDC, migrated from an old WinNT4 Domain to support roaming profile for new WinXP clients. But I do not want a full roaming profile. AFAIK WinXP profiles tends to grow. If possible, I would like to roam only the desktop settings, and maybe the navigator (IE or Firefox) configuration. Another important (I believe) information is that our WinXP

Accessing Windows file-system from Linux samba server
I don't understand Windows permissions under Samba. I am running an smb server under CentOS-5.4, and have a Windows XP Pro machine ("harriet") as a client. I have set up shares C and D on harriet corresponding to the 2 drives C: and D: on the machine, and I have asked that files should be shared. Now when I mount harriet:C I can see the top level folders, but cannot see Documents

Roaming profiles and case sensitivity
Hi, Yesterday I found big problems concerning my roaming profiles. They seem to work on some computers where they are always used, on some other the did not load properly (i.e. a default profile was loaded instead). After some debugging with userenv.log I found the very strange problem: case sensitivity for ntuser.dat!: [...] IsCentralProfileReachable: Testing <F:\testuser\ntuser.dat>

Unable to load roaming profiles samba-4.3 FreeBSD
I am seeing these in smb.log and each time I do it appears that the user in question is unable to retrieve their roaming profile. Does anyone know what is going on and more importantly, how to cure it? . . . Samba roaming profile with folder redirection
Hi, I have a domain controller which was configured to use the local profiles. We have a relatively small group whose work required it. Now we are moving toward using the domain for all machine with roaming profile. There are a lot of posts dealing with the roaming profiles and the folder redirection. But I've met some issues. My configuration: NS3 and SMB are hostnames of our servers.

Can't do roaming profiles
I need a little advice on finishing off a Samba PDC. I have Samba 3.0.0RC1 installed and working as a PDC on a Redhat AS 3.0 machine. It authenticates users nicely but the "roaming" profiles don't work. Tailing the samba log, I see the an attempt to access the users ntuser.dat file, which doesn't exist before the first logon, when logging in. The profile directory

[Samba} Can't do roaming profiles (Solved)
Through much help from a guy in my local LUG I found the solution to making roaming profiles work on Win2000 (SP4). 1) You should have SP4 installed. 2) Two registry changes are needed: Use regedit and change the following two dword attributes to 0 "requiresignorseal" "signsecurechannel" 3) Run the group policy editor "gpedit.msc" and enable the

few idea about dealing with "Large Roaming Profiles"
Well, I put it here. All the experience gained in about-half-an-year-management of Samba-PDC + numerous NT4 workstations is included. Also, I'd be glad to hear from you what did I miss! 1) when NT4-workstations are organised into "domain", there's some action assosiated to this: "to log into domain". samba ain such case acts as PDC (primary domain controller),

samba 3.0.23a + ldap as PDC - should work, but why?
I've got an issue with roaming profiles with samba 3.0.23a and an LDAP backend. I can use the ldap to authenticate an NT and a local user, and I know alot about PAM, NSS, and general linux. BUT, I can't get ANY roaming profiles to work. Other than my domain name changed for security purposes, the following is my smb.conf file. (I first used SWAT, then did more customization)

problem with roaming profiles after windows 10 may 2019 upgrade
Hello friends, how are you? After Windows 10 may 2019 upgrade, roaming profiles stop working. I'm still able to join the machine to the domain, but after logging, Windows was unable to download the profile from the server. I already check the SMB 1.0 protocol at Windows 10 and it?s working fine too. Without the may 2019 upgrade, everything is working fine. My samba version is Samba version

Roaming profiles errors and shares not disconnecting
Hi, We are using Samba 3.0.22 on FreeBSD 5.5 PDC with ldap backend and roaming profiles. We meet some difficulties when users logout from some Windows 2000 SP4 clients, and storing their profiles back to the Samba server. The file NTUSER.DAT seems to be uploaded and stored in lowercase, as ntuser.dat. Then, when users try to reopen a win session, they get a corrupted new profile. This new

Samba on Debian: Sarge -> Etch = broken guest shares
I upgraded a server from Debian Sarge to Etch the other day. Today I discovered a fairly major issue... All the shares I had set up for guest access have stopped working. The shares are meant to be writable by me and a few others, and read only for guest, but it's flat out refusing to authenticate anyone using guest (or unknown users which should be mapping to guest). SMB.conf is below

Problem with roaming profiles
Hi After changing from samba 2.2.7 to 3.0.rc2 I can't get roaming profiles work. Clients Are W2K and XP. I've also switched from smbpasswd backend to ldap. Logon path is only set in smb.conf, not in ldap. Storing of profiles is working but it takes very long. I've tried logon path = \\wilma2\profile\Win2K and \\wilma2\profile. But the clients are always storing profile in

ExcludeProfileDirs and broken roaming profiles
Hi, since rolling out roaming profiles, some user profiles are growing very fast. I like to keep the profiles small and think about changing ExcludeProfileDirs default settings in Software\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Winlogon by System Policies to remove caches, cookies, recent and other "useless" stuff. Which paths could be excluded without "killing" the benefits
