I've got two machines, one a pure 98 machine, the other split 50-50 linux and freebsd. All is looking well, samba is my local master, will always win elections etc. Both machines show up and all is good until I restart samba. At that point no matter which

Samba problems ( still after using diagnose.txt )
Hi Andrew, I'm having problems with Samba, on FreeBSD 2.2.5. I have tried both Version 1.9.17p2 ( Which came with the release ), and the latest version 1.9.18p8 ( from samba web site, and recompiled for FreeBSD ). Both smbd, and nmbd are started from the command line as follows ( When compilying the code I changed the SBIN directory to sbin ( instead of bin ) /usr/local/sbin/smbd -D

Win2K Clients Getting Password Prompt When Trying To Access Samba Shares
I'm running Samba 3.0.4 with Kerberos 5 v 1.3.4. I'm accessing Win2k shares from the Samba box without a hitch, but whenever I try to open up Samba shares on the Win2K clients, I get a password prompt. If I access the shares via the IP address of the Samba machine, there's no problem. I don't know if this is relevant, but my Win2k PDC is showing the following error on a

Incompatibility Windows 7
As Gaiseric requested, here is the testparm -v diff of a working and nonworking member server in the NT4 domain. I've tried to align the columns, but it's possible your mail client may mangle them. The only parameter change I have tried is changing 'ntlm auth' to Yes on the the nonworking system. It did not fix anything. Thanks for looking. Dale *# Samba 4.2.14 (working)*

Reliable Samba just stopped mounting Windows machine
I have been mounting a Windows machine with no problems whatsoever for the year. Suddenly this afternoon it won't mount any more. No recent changes have been made on the machine. The only thing I've done recently is load and get Thunderbird working. Most things are done as user not root in KDE xterms. My Linux machine is Slackware Linux 10.0. There is an iptables firewall that

nmbd
I am having a lot of problems with nmbd. Basically it refuses to open its socket to listen on. I have checked, and the reason cannot be that the port is in use, as I can set any port with the -p switch, and I get the same error. The relevant part of the nmb log is: Netbios name list:- my_netbios_names[0]="DIRAC" lp_file_list_changed() file /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf ->

troubles printing from windows98 to a samba printer
Hello I have this problem with printing to a HP Laser Jet 4L set up on my linux box which is the local samba server for the intranet. I can only print as root or as a user admin user = thatuser. I need to be able to set a password for the printer and only those users to use the printer who know the password. Or a similar solution. As ordinary user Windows98 says:
