Problem authenticating against a W2K server
Hi there. I'm having a problem letting a Samba server (MYSAMBA) authenticate users (using "security = domain" and a "password server = MYPDC") against a Windows 2000 PDC (MYPDC). The Windows 2000 machine seems (I'm not 100% sure about this) to be configured to restrict anonymous and it seems to me that this is where the problem lies but don't know what to do. I

Can't access by NetBIOS Aliases or IP Address
Hm.. standard troubleshooting may be use smbclient -L on the samba server to list shares and make sure samba is responding to request. check the samba logs for info -- and if needed turn loglevel up in smb.conf if this was a joined server prior to upgrade, you may need to rejoin it to the domain On Mon, Apr 25, 2016 at 5:52 PM, Takeshi Suyama <tsuyama94 at gmail.com> wrote: > Hi

Can't access by NetBIOS Aliases or IP Address
Hi all. I am running Debian jessie server with Samba, which has joined the Active Directory domain. The domain controllers are Windows Server 2012 R2. After I upgraded Samba version from 4.1.17+dfsg-2+deb8u2 to 4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u2, I'm facing the problem that I can't access Samba share by NetBIOS Aliases or IP Address. The Samba's NetBIOS name is mysamba, and I can access by

Security = share changed in Samba 3+ ?
Hi, I have several servers in separate networks currently running samba 2.2.5. Each server can have aliases and I'm using the %L macro in share path, so that each appear as a separate 'virtual' server - depending on how the client calls it. There is at least one SMB users defined in 'smbpasswd' file. Here is the current config: > [global] > workgroup = MYGROUP

samba file server - sediskoperatorprivilege not being honored
Hello, Since nobody picked this up I will try to answer myself (hopefully correctly). I think I just misread documentation on wiki, but I would really appreciate a clarification. In the wiki it states: "To enable other accounts than the domain administrator to set permissions on Windows, grant |Full control| (|rwx|) to the user or group you granted the |SeDiskOperatorPrivilege|

samba file server - sediskoperatorprivilege not being honored
Hello, I've been setting up new file server using samba 4.8.3 (centos 7 RPM), as samba 4 AD member server using my earlier smb.conf when I realised that I was  previously somewhat circumventing the SeDiskOperatorPrivilege by using "admin users map" to SAMDOM\Domain admins" parameter in smb.conf. I decided to change my smb.conf and setup shares following samba wiki. All

Samba4 bug - "mount error(5): Input/output error"
Hi Rowland, do you maybe have any idea what could potentially cause this bug? smbclient thrwos me back a mount error(5): Input/output error when I try to mount the remote smbFS. It doesn't happen with my MacOSx and Windows 7 as client but it happens with Linux OSs and with a Konica Minolta copy machine with a scanner to samba function. The first try to mount fails with the above error.

user name with a dot not working
Hello, I'm having problems with user names containing a dot. For example "j.smith". In our network we have Win2K PDC and a Samba server. smb.conf contains this: [global] security = domain password server = MYSERVER username map = /etc/samba/smbusers [myshare] valid users = j.smith write list = j.smith etc... /etc/samba/smbusers file contains this: jsmith = j.smith And Linux box

3.0.25: non-Kerberos authentication fails when security=ads?
I have several servers running Samba, all using security = ads mode. After updating one of the servers to 3.0.25, non-Kerberos login attempts now fail, although Kerberos logins work just fine. E.g.: $ smbclient -k -L //my-server OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.25-0.0] Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- ... $ smbclient -U username -L

Hi sorry to bother, but all of a sudden after a fresh install of samba with the regular smb4.conf it keeps on failing when users try to authenticate: smbclient -U MyUser \\\\MyServerName\\MyShare MyPassword session setup failed: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL [...] check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [MyUser] -> [MyUser] -> [MyUser] succeeded [2014/05/02 10:29:40.930648, 3]

'net use' fails within a logon script on win95b
I have noticed a very strange problem on a base Windows 95b computer. On a clean win95b computer with no additional software, the drive mappings in the logon scripts fail. The logon script uses 'net use' to connect the client to a share on the samba server. The server is running RH7.1 and Samba 2.2.2. The samba server is setup as a domain appliance and uses winbind, passing

AD native mode authentication on OpenSolaris
I am running Samba 3.0.24 on OpenSolaris build 69, x86. I built Kerberos, LDAP and Samba from source so that I could join an AD domain in native mode. After many trials and tribulations, I successfully did a 'net ads join'. Here's the problem: When a user tries to connect to the Solaris server, I get the following error in the Samba log for the client machine: [2007/08/21 16:37:49,

Upgrade from Samba 3.0.33 to 3.5.8 woes
Greetings, I just did a major upgrade to our Samba infrastructure. I previously had a domain controller and share running 3.0.33 (on one box, one samba instance) I set up a new domain controller running 3.5.8, made that the PDC for our domain, and changed the (now former) domain controller running 3.0.33 to just be a member. Additionally, we moved the IP from the old DC to the new DC (and

Q: winbindd and samba with "use default domain"
Dear list, I am trying to use winbind as the authentication mechanism for the Unix servers. I have this final roadblock, and would appreciate to get some help. In a test on a Linux box, everything works greatly, telnet, ftp, pop3, ssh. However, ironically, it broke samba. I suspect that the problem might be that I use "use default domain = yes" option. It is because we want to make

Cannot join domain
Hi, Samba V 3.0.25 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 PDC: NT 4 Domain. Server security = domain. I have a server (possibly 2) that cannot join the domain. I have tried from the linux server with 'net rpc join' and from the NT Box's Server Manager but it fails. The server appears in Server Manager although you can not get any additional info about it. The NT BOX's event viewer

SVR Debian sid V. 3.4.2-1 CLI Debian lenny ===================== Hi list, Sometimes ago I noticed a samba slowing down but as I don't use it very much it was not a PB (NO conf changes.) Today I made this test on CLI: mount -t cifs //svr/myshare /mnt/ -o username=myuser, password=mypw,ro then: cp /mnt/films/20090911_0025_footage.avi . (this one's 2GB) The speed (measured w/ iptraf) is
