Unable to update SID using pdbedit
Since I have had trouble getting the net rpc vampire command to properly migrate passwords, I have been looking into stripping down the net rpc samdump results into a smbpasswd backend file, then importing from there into my tdbsam. The first problem I ran into is that the samdump produces RID values from the domain, whereas I need it to represent UIDs that already exist. No problem, since my

Strange problem with pdbedit -Lv : missing users ?
Dear Gaiseric, Yes, according to testparm the backend is a plain text file : smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd passdb backend = smbpasswd Therefore I wonder where the User SIDs are stored ?! About "getent passwd", yes all users (active users at least) have a Unix account. About the users that are missing in pdbedit, there is not error in smb.log when they log in. (But I

the testparm command will show you the location of the password file and the backend type e.g. smb passwd file = /etc/samba/private/smbpasswd passdb backend = tdbsam The backend file should be a TDB database file , not a plain text file (unless left over from an older version.) You may have users or computers with duplicated SIDs. You should also use "getent

Resetting passwords using pdbedit?
[Environment: Samba 3.0.2a with "passdb backend = tdbsam" ] I want to be able to reset user passwords from the command line on the Unix server, without knowledge of the existing password. If I was using an smbpasswd file, I could call the "smbpasswd" command and it would edit the file. But with a backend, that's not available to me. The "pdbedit" command will

Strange problem with pdbedit -Lv : missing users ?
Thank you very much for your answer. It's the default, internal backend. (smbpasswd) a) If I do : tdbdump schannel_store.tdb dump | grep BWPC |grep SECRET | wc I get 95 machines (this number looks good). b) smbpasswd is a text file that looks good. c) I can also do "tdbdump secrets.tdb dump" Thanks a lot in advance for any advice, Denis Le 15.12.2014 22:00, Gaiseric

group mapping on a member server - winbindd and solaris 10
>From what I can tell it does look as if I have to run winbindd on member servers, even if NIS is used, to get SID's mapping consistently across the domain. The PDC is Samba 3.025a on Solaris 10. Two member servers are Samba 3.025a on solaris 9. If i start winbindd on a memv, the "wbinfo -u" and "wbinfo -g" commands show my users and groups. However, the

Member server - group and user mapping with winbind
I now have one PDC (Samba 3.026a on Solaris 10) and several member servers (including Samba 3.026a on Solaris 9 and 10, and Samba 3.024 on Fedora core 6.) Each machine uses NIS for unix accounts. If I start smbd and nmbd on a member server, I can connect to a share from a windows 2000 or XP client. If I look at the permissions on a folder, if shows "Unix Account/someuser" or

Samba 3.0: Cannot alter user settings with pdbedit
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 After a failed migrate from NT4 to Samba 3.0 using the rpc vampire method I decided I'd do it manually with 'net rpc samdump'. Well it sort of worked, except I can't edit any of the users settings, it might just be me, but it should modify the profile to that, just as a test but it doesn't. I'd actually like to get rid of the

Bad passwords from Vampire / NT migration
I just did a clean install of Fedora 9 onto a Pentium 4 machine. It is actually running SELinux enforcing, but I haven't found any errors related to that so far. It is running Samba 3.2.3-0.20. I am trying to migrate a Windows NT 4.0 domain with about 30 users and 30 computers onto a pure Samba setup, using Samba as the PDC and tdbsam. I have read the HOWTO guide extensively, and

replacing a samba pdc server.

How to regenerate passdb.tdb
Hi, I was having problem with the tdbsam backend in which a particular user got listed twice with pdbedit. (http://www.mail-archive.com/samba at lists.samba.org/msg109110.html) Without much hope in fixing it, I am planning to re-generating passdb.tdb on my PDC by: (1)exporting tdbsam to smbpasswd backend (2)delete passdb.tdb (3)re-import smbpasswd to tdbsam backend With the command `

FW: RPC Error with PC Netlink
Thanks for the advice. I had played with NT4 a little bit to see if I could use it for setting up a resource domain for windows 2003 machines- since it looks like you can join Windows 2003 machines to an NT4 domain (so why PCNL can't I don't know), and then establish trusts between NT4 and PCNL. I didn't really want to have NT4 machines in my enviroment any longer than necessary so

NT/UNIX username mapping possible directly via tdbsam?
Hello everyone, I've been wondering if NT and UNIX username mapping can be done directly via the SAM database instead of the 'username map = <filename>' option in smb.conf. The problem with 'username map' files is that the mappings seem to work only in one direction, namely from NT towards UNIX usernames. However, I'd like to achieve a true, bi-directional

net rpc vampire -> segmentation fault
Hi all, I am trying to migrate NT4 domain to Samba-3 PDC, yet I stuck at migrating NT4 PDC information using "net rpc vampire" -- giving "segmentation fault". Any help? I use: Debian Linux, Samba 3.0.21a-Debian The steps that I did: a. In NT's server manager, I created GL-BACKUP as BDC b. Here is my smb.conf [global] workgroup = GLNET netbios name =

"net rpc vampire" case sensitivity problem
We just migrated a small network from a Win2K PDC to Samba, using "net rpc vampire" into a tdbsam backend on a Samba 3.0.2a Linux box. One of the users, let's call him Jon Harker, had the NT username "JHarker". When we ran "pdbedit -v jharker", we saw this: Unix username: JHarker NT username: JHarker Well, that looks wrong - the NT

problem with net rpc vampire
I'm trying to migrate accounts from a NT4 PDC to a Samba 3.0.26a server with a ldap backend, using "net rpc vampire". I was able successfully to run the "smbldap-populate" script and verified that users and groups were created by running "pdbedit -Lw" and "net groupmap list". According to the output from "net rpc vampire" all accounts and

Migrate NT PDC to SAMBA PDC
Hi all, I'm trying to migrate NT PDC server to Samba PDC. and now i use samba 3.0.0beta2.
