Corrupted ntprinters.tdb
Hi, we are experiencing periodic problems with our samba/cups setup: It seems like workstations which are locked but where users with the SePrintOperatorPrivilege are logged on destroy the ntprinters.tdb. This always takes place when the logrotate on the sambaserver runs the postrotatescript and restarts cups while the client is doing whatever it has to do. /var/log/messages says:

How to repair corrupt ntprinters.tdb?
Hi, we are using samba 3.0.24 as a printspooler for 80 network printers with a 500kB ntprinters.tdb for some years now. When we recently restarted samba we noticed that the ntprinters.tdb automatically shrinked to 24kB and printing was no longer possible. tdbdump of the original tdb-file is impossible too: "Failed to open ntprinters.tdb" The strange thing about this: we can solve

Slow printing / print properties with CUPS and Samba sort-of-solved
I've been banging my head against some printing problems that I've been having for quite a while. This weekend I am migrating an old server to new hardware and a new base OS, but the version of Samba and CUPS remain the same. Because of this I moved all the config files and the contents of /var/cache/samba from the old server to the new. (Foreshadowing: this was a mistake, but not a

Printer driver problems - HELP!!!
I have a printer that requires each user to have the ability to modify his/her defaults without administrator intervention. This printer is a Canon ImageRunner 5000. Each user has the option of setting the "Printing Preferences" to either print directly or to a mailbox on the printer. Up to this point (three weeks now), I have been unable to accomplish this simple task. For all

Printer dialogue box slow to pop up
Hi, we're in the process of rolling out Samba on Suse Enterprise Server v 9 in an environment of Windows 98, 2000, and XP computers (samba v 3.0.14a). The samba server is replacing a Windows 2000 domain controller. The computers switched over to using the samba server as the domain controller are not experiencing any issues logging onto the domain, initializing their logon batch script, or

tdb search optimization
I'm running: # smbd -V Version 3.0.24-2.28-1354-SUSE-CODE10 In a 600 print queues print server, but I'm experiencing a low performance while using the first queue. I was attaching ltrace/strace to some processes with "use mmap=no" and I found a BIG difference in information gathering in ntprinters.tdb between the first and the last print queue (using alphabetical sorting). This

Distributing custom driver config in TDB files
Hi, Is there a way to populate customized settings of the drivers (printing related TDB files) from one Print Server to another? Here is the background: I am working on centralized driver distribution. Besides pushing all the drivers from a central location to the edges, the administrator should also be allowed to customize the drivers settings and the distribution should send those

How to let a Windows App talk to a Windows Scanner Driver
Hi there, I know that Wine usually offers the system's SANE scanners to Windows applications using a custom implementation of the twain.dll. In my case, I'm using a network scanner which has no linux drivers (Canon ImageRunner 2200). I was able to successfully install the Windows driver on Wine, and the ScanGear Tool that comes with the driver reports that the Scanner is online and the

krb5.conf in /var/lib/samba/smb_krb5 very different from original
Hi all ! I have some problems browsing a samba share from a Canon ImageRunner printer. It tries to write to a share located on a samba server, configured to authenticate users against a windows 2003 Active directory. Samba version 3.2.6 is running on opensuse 11.1. After a lot of search, I tought that maybe it did not support the encryption type requested by my Samba server, so I checked my

Printing woes (Driver uploading, and .tdb annoyances)
Hi all, I'm running 3.0.6 on IRIX 6.5 (compiled from sources) Runs fine for almost all purposes. But I thought I'd have a look at the extra Samba-3 printing facilites today, and they've thrown up some real issues. 1st point. I still haven't managed to get to the bottom of this one, but I can't always add a printer drive to a Samba-served printer. I've been

Can these (unused) tdb files be removed after upgrading to 4.1?
I upgraded our 3.6.22 server to 4.1.11 this past week. We're using the non-AD NT4 setup and the upgrade went well except for two users mapping to different uids. I think at least one of these may have been caused by a very old smbpasswd file in /var/lib/samaba/private since the post-upgrade uid was the same as was in this ancient file. This led me to try and clean out old/unused files from

Nmbd crash with failure to open wins.tdb
Hello, I've found this issue reported only once before but no real answer was provided/found. I am trying to migrate from an old 2.0.7 server, but the bundled install 3.0.24 on FC6 is giving me major pain. Putting aside the actual configuration and user migration which I need to figure out, the problem is that nmbd refuses to start with the following errors in the log: [2007/02/26 14:05:26,

3.0.8/3.0.9 printing tdb entries not clearing
Hi all, We have a strange issue with printing tdb entries not clearing. From what I can tell, this may be an issue on Solaris (5.9) but not on Linux (2.4.18) - I have 3.0.8 (and since last night .9) on a linux server and a solaris one. I don't see the problem on print queues hosted on the linux box. The symptom is that you can print from both XP and 98 and the print job appears on the

Question about tdb files
Hi list I'm running a samba 3.0.24 with an ldap backend and as a print server. The server is also serving printer drivers for my Windows clients. If more information is needed please let me know. I have a question about tdb files. Some of my tdb files haven't been touched since my installation in december 2005 and I'm thinking if this is something I should consider critical or not.

Making nt_printer.tdb from tdbtool?
Hello All -- We are trying to consolidate our printer management from a series of NT print servers to a series of Samba ones, in a global network with ten offices and about 150 printers. All printing is PostScript and goes to HP and Canon printers over lpd through custom 'if' filters which do accounting. To help this we're trying to automate the printer and driver registration

Administering samba locally without opening root to the net?
Hello. I'm trying to find a way to administer a (set of) standalone samba machines (3.x style) locally. Most things are now done using `net rpc' command. But this one connects to a (local) samba server over network, and hence requires auth. Another example is pdbedit tool which accesses local passdb.tdb file directly as long as user running this command has the necessary permissions.
