resolv.conf rewritten every reboot. How to figure out who and why?
My machine has a static IP, with dhcp and IPv6 disabled. Every time I reboot, some process rewrites /etc/resolv.conf, including a comment about dhcpclient. The only package I have installed that shows up in "rpm -qa|grep -i dhcp" is dhcpv6-client-1.0.10-16.el5, and nothing in there is named dhcpclient. I'd like to figure out what software is rewriting this file and why. man 5

Ellipse 750 USBS auto shutdown and NUT.
Hello, I've installed & configured NUT 2.0.4 connected over a serial port to an MGE USBS 750. When the UPS enters the 'critical' state (ie, battery load below the defined battery.charge.low AND power input off), the UPS just shutdown itself instead of notifying NUT. When I say the UPS just shutdown, I mean it autonomously shut down itself within one second after reaching the

fitting distributions
Hi; I would like to fit a contiuous right skewed dist. to a set of data. So, I want to use MLE or Robust estimation of the parameters, then use A-D or K-S test or Robust alternative for the goodness-of -fit. Also I would rank the fitted distributions according to the p-value of the test. Does anyone know how I do this in R. any backages of Robust estimation and for goodness-of-fit? Thank you

mgcv::gam error message
Hi Could anyone please tell me what to do to resolve this error message? I tried to run a gam with the mgcv package and got the following error: "Error in qr.qty(qrc, sm$S[[1]]): NA/NaN/Inf in foreign function call (arg 5)" (I have 116 covariates, I'm using the "cr" basis to speed things up, the binomial family and, where necessary, have set the required k to lower than

UPS shuts down after restart
> I'll try to manually call `upsdrvctl shutdown` to check if the UPS then goes to 'OL DISCHRG' I now tested the manuall `upsdrvctl shutdown` and the UPS goes to 'OL DISCHRG'. So I think nut is sending the shutdown command to the UPS during boot without setting FSD. Just a wild guess: I recognized the system time in syslog during the bootsequence is suspicious. It looks

ZFS core contributor nominations
The time has come to review the current Contributor and Core contributor grants for ZFS. Since all of the ZFS core contributors grants are set to expire on 02-24-2009 we need to renew the members that are still contributing at core contributor levels. We should also add some new members to both Contributor and Core contributor levels. First the current list of Core contributors: Bill

Predicting ordinal outcomes using lrm{Design}
Dear List, I have two questions about how to do predictions using lrm, specifically how to predict the ordinal response for each observation *individually*. I'm very new to cumulative odds models, so my apologies if my questions are too basic. I have a dataset with 4000 observations. Each observation consists of an ordinal outcome y (i.e., rating of a stimulus with four possible

Violin plot for discrete variables.
Dear Rgurus, To my knowledge the best way to visualize the distribution of a discrete variable X is plot(table(X)) The problem which I have is the following. I have to discrete variables X and Y which distribution I would like to compare. To overlay the distribution of Y with lines(table(Y)) gives not satisfying results. This is the same in case of using density or histogram. Hence, I am

chan_capi: suppress calling number on outbound dialing?
Hi, I just wonder, if it is possible, to suppress my own number on outbound dials with chan_capi. I took a look into the sources and think it might work with toggeling the "@" in front of the outbound msn in the dialstring. (Dial(CAPI/@msn... vs. Dial(CAPI/msn... But it doesn't work. Maybee I'm wrong and misunderstood the code. Thanks for any answers! Karsten

Is there a way to represent the ... argument in signature?
Hi! I guess that it cant work. but maybee I am wrong. I would like to define a function rbind. > rbind function (..., deparse.level = 1) { which works only for objects of class Myclass Is it possible to use something like setMethod("rbind",signature(...="Myclass",deparse.level="numeric") This gives an error. Or should I use rbind.Myclass Eryk. Dipl. bio-chem.

how lambda is computed in smoot.spline given _df_
Hi, I posted some days ago a question concerning the computation of lambda in the smooth.spline function (which I repreat at the bottom of the mail) given _df_ . Unfortunately the documentation is not clear to me. Maybee someone can help to answer in my view the basic question: If the penalized log likelihood is L = (y - f)' W (y - f) + lambda c' Sigma c how the _lambda_ in the above
