Is the term 'home dir' and 'roaming profiles' different?
Hello, I've just been exploring Samba again after some time, and this time I'm setting a Samba PDC with LDAP. Thanks for great tutorial from Samba website, I think I got it working fine :) However, I've been browsing the list too, and am a bit confused with the term: 'homedir' and 'roaming profiles'. Is it different? If I'm not mistaken, homedir is for Win9X

Terminal server login problem
Hi all, I have a strange problem with the combination of Win2k3 and Samba. The samba server is configured as a PDC, the terminal server as a member of the domain. Logging in from the terminal server console with a domain userid works; logging in from a terminal server session from the same machine fails with the message: "The system can not log you on due to the following error: The

PDC disconnected until restart (NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVER - or so)
Hi, We experience an every-now-and-then problem with our samba PDC. For a couple of days or so, the PDC runs just fine. Then, one after another, the workstations (Win9x, NT4/SP6a, Win2000/SP3) complain about the PDC not being there and refuse to logon users (naturally). The only workstation that's still able to see and connect to the PDC is the one that's on the same broadcast domain. An

Samba Guest Accout Issue
So, after rebuilding and finding that somehow fixed my intial issue of failing to connect to the ldap server, I am now having an issue with the guest account. Any ideas, I've done some searches but haven't been having any luck. This is on RHEL. Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Trouble during classicupgrade
Hello, I need to do a classic migration on a machine which has until now been running samba as an old NT4-style PDC. I made a copy of that machine in a VM to test the process. Until now, things don't work quite right. I was following the classic upgrade howto from wiki.samba.org. I was using the method with internal DNS. Classicupgrade itself ran without errors, I followed the steps after

Samba 3.05 pdc
I'm trying to connect a Windows 2000 workstation to my samba pdc domain. I have followed all the steps in the documentation to setup samba as a pdc, but I have not been able to connect any workstations to the domain. Does anyone have a example smb.conf file I can compare with mine. I checked the "log.smbd" and I'm getting the following messages when I tried to add a computer

strange trouble with Win2k
I am running Samba 2.2.4 on a Debian machine (2.2.5 is compiling right now), and I'm experiencing strange problems with Win2k-Clients in a domain with the Samba-server as PDC. The clients can join the domain, authenticate users to the Samba server and access shares, thats o.k. However, they do not seem to believe that they are in the domain. If I click on "Network Neigbourhood",

clients that are not a part of the domain cannot authenticate
Hi, I have asked that last week with a little different subject, but the problem remains. When connecting with a Windows machine (not part of the domain) to the Samba server, the client is not authenticating, even when the user exists in the domain. Domain master is a Windows 2003 SBS machine, the Samba server is a Debian Lenny machine. The problem is occurring with Samba 3.2.13, with Samba

Office 2007 saves files as read only on samba shares?
I've been running the same configuration for a couple of years now, and since I've upgraded to Office 2007, MS Word and MS Excel files save to my samba shares as -r-------- even when they are opened as being chmod 777. Files I create/edit using other editors or windows explorer are put onto the share with the correct permissions. My conf looks like this: [global] workgroup = WG

But when I try connecting to a public share, or the users home directory, I get a user denied error. "\\Fileserver\user is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.
