Windows client doesn't show up in findsmb
What does it mean if a windows XP consistently doesn't show up in findsmb even when it does show up in smbstatus? Also, I don't know if this is related or not, but the same machine sometimes shows up in smbstatus with two different PIDs. We've seen this with two different machines, both running XP. Here's smbstatus output (the machine in question is accountingiii): Samba

How Is Administrator Treated?
I have a couple of Samba 2.2 servers, in different locations, configured as NT Domain Controllers, but I'm experiencing some problems with logging on to the domains as Administrator in order to perform some administration tasks, such as configuring antivirus software on workstations. I won't go into the details here; I think the basic problem is my lack of understanding of how the

net rpc vampire, profiles, SIDs oh my!
Ok. I am trying to "net rpc vampire" from my current AD domain into a ldapsam password backend so I can get the user SID to preserve profiles. I am aware that HKEY_USERS holds that SID as well. In my test environment, the SID for userA in the AD domain when taken from HKEY_USERS and put into userA's ldap entry as sambaSID preserves the profile correctly, also the last digits of

Samba password sync question
Sadly that doesn't work. All that does is set the registry entry in HKEY_Users\.DEFAULT and when a new user logs in that key is not copied for some reason -----Original Message----- From: Josh Friberg-Wyckoff [mailto:jwcomputing@yahoo.com] Sent: 19 September 2002 21:52 To: j.b.s.waugh@aston.ac.uk; samba@lists.samba.org Subject: Re: [Samba] Samba password sync question I found it. Get Me Outta Here! Web site security issue
Hi All, I have a CentOS 5.4 web server. I have some stuff that runs on 443. When I hit https://<the site> The user gets a warning saying that site identity could not be verified and the user can add an exception if they want. How do I stop this from happing? Do I need to buy an SSL cert? Aren't these really expensive per server and I have 5 servers I would need to do this too. Can

problem on exceptional quit
Dear Johnny, Yes, I have tried much larger numbers than 60 and 3 for the above two parameters respectively. And I am sure it is using ?protocol 2? because it?s uncommented in sshd_config. Is there a way to catch what?s happing before quit? I couldn?t see anything except for the line ?write failed, broken pipe?. Thanks. Hua At 2015-10-08 19:37:24, "Johnny Hughes" <johnny at

What are the implications of locking the ntuser.dat file on the user's server profile? That is, if I make the ntuser.dat file read-only, what affects will that have on the client?

Newbie: any hope of running a dongle-protected app? Aladdin HASP on LPT1...
Hi, I'm a complete Wine newbie, still in the "Shock and Awe" stage... so apologies for obvious stupidities. I'm trying to run a VB6 app, probably 1999-vintage, under Wine. It is protected by a parallel port dongle from Aladdin. The app installs, the HASP drivers (latest version) apparently install, but when I run the app it tells me "HASP device driver not

getting SID on a Samba 2.2.2 domain
Replacing an old Samba 2.2.2 server with a newer Samba version, and would like to set the SID to the same as the old server. However, 2.2.2 doesn't have the 'net' utilities or anything else that I can find to display the SID. Anyone have any hints? Thanks, Jonathan Wilson
