smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root..
Dear Help,
I currently have a Samba PDC along with multiple BDCs using an eDirectory LDAP
backend. While trying to figure out how to get the bad password account lockout
feature to work, I managed to somehow mess up the samba PDC.
If a user attempts to authenticate against the PDC with the correct password,
all is well and works as usual. However, if I use an incorrect password, the

PDC + LDAP, cannot access LDAP when not root
I'm using Debian Sarge, Samba (3.1.14a) with the ldapsam backend, and
OpenLDAP (2.2.23).
When attempting to join an Windows XP+SP2 computer (BILLGATES) to my
domain (WORKGROUP), using the Administrator account, I am told by
windows: 'Access denied.'
The logs (attached) seem to indicate that the user Administrator is
being authenticated (which would have? to use LDAP), but when It

me mad.
I am running samba Version 3.0.23c-1.fc5 as a PDC with openldap 2.3.19 on a

Hi all!
I'm settting up a samba PDC on SuSE 9.3 with samba 3 using OpenLDAP.
I've got some problems when i try to join a Windows XP Pro sp2 worstation
into the samba PDC.
Windows tell me that i dont have access to join the domain, and samba
logfiles says that LDAP can't be running as non-root.
When I try to join the domain from XP it asks after login and passwd and

pdc+ldap newly created users can't log in
I am facing a very strange problem with samba running as PDC and using
LDAP. The new users that I create using smbldap-tools aren't able to log
in, but they can browse shares on the server.
I had the problem with samba 2.2 and hoped it would be solved with 3.0.
I spent two days testing without success even with samba 3.0.2pre1.
In the log I can't see anything wrong : it says "sam

NT Workstation and Samba PDC
Hi.
I'm having a big trouble.
We migrate a NT PDC to a Samba PDC. No problems in migration. Everything
works fine.
The problem is: I can't add a NT machine to Domain. Simply does not work. XP
and W2K works great.
I started using Debian Sarge Package 3.0.14. In this version I could not
manage groups using the Domain User Manager from NT. So I updated to
3.0.23cpackages from
samba.org.

BDC constantly rebinds to master ldap server causing browsing delay
Hello,
I seem to be having an issue where one of my BDC servers constantly needs
to rebind to the "master" ldap server (ldap1.ae-solutions.com). Whenever
this happens I see several entries in the log like this:
"smbldap_search_ext: waiting 928 milliseconds for LDAP replication."
It appears to cause delay when browsing samba shares whenever this
happens. The master

trouble joining win xp machines to samba with ldap backend DC
Greetings,
I would like some help figuring this out. I really don't know what to do
anymore. whenever I try to join an XP machine to the domain it comes up
that username or password is not correct. However I know that the
credentials are correct, but when I check the logs of that specific
machine, this comes up:

Can't get ldap passwd sync = only to send password request to ldap server
Ok, this one is driving me nuts. I am using smbk5pwd to sync samba,
ldap, and heimdal kerberos passwords.
I have the overlay working if called from the ldappasswd command.
However, if I set "ldap passwd sync = only", I get no joy from Samba.
It does a series of searches, but doesn't send any kind of password
update request to the server.
If I use ldap passwd sync = yes, then

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
Hi Daryl,

bad password lockout works fine in Samba AD mode. Is there a technical
reason for you to keep on using PDC NT4 mode? In AD mode, you'll also
get a LDAP, and it will be much easier to setup and manage!

Overloaded samba server. Is it a bug?
Experts,
We've just migrated from samba 2.2.8a to samba 3.0.20b in a very large
corporate environment. Everything was really fine in our lab, but we
began
experiment serious load problems on the productive servers the morning
after
the procedure took place. I'll try (briefly) to describe the
characteristics
of the scenario:

I found out the answer to why the bad password count was failing by
following the stack trace
If anyone has the same problem, this was caused by my access rights being
too restrictive.
source/passdb/Init_sam_from_ldap.c:1064 => There is a "goto fn_exit;" in

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
Hi Denis,
Thanks for your suggestion
When I looked into Samba4 AD, I figured it would take too much effort to port our infrastructure to it, seemingly without benefits
We already have a quite extensive network architecture with OpenLDAP acting as a LDAP server. Samba4 AD seems to require its own LDAP implementation (and some more quirks IIRC).
There's also the additional DNS configuration

ldap guest account mapping looks broken
I'm running the samba-client-3.0.20-0.1 SUSE RPM. I was using the
version that came with 9.3 but upgraded to see if this specific
problem would go away.
Guest access does not appear to be working correctly, and it looks
like the problem is due to guest not getting mapped into the LDAP
query correctly.
Specifically, I can login with local account, join workstation to the
domain, browse
