smbd using 99.9% CPU with MS Office docs
I made a post a few weeks ago regarding this but was unable to find a
solution. This is the situation:
+ I'm attempting to upgrade from samba 3.0.23a (Fedora core package
3.0.23a-1.fc4.1) to the latest version compiled from Samba source.
+ When using the latest version (or 3.0.25b), Win clients can
authenticate & access shares fine, but attempting to open any kind of MS

ACL/Excel file issue
Hi,
I've just upgraded an organisation from 3.0.23a to 3.0.25b on CentOS.
Everything went fine excpet they're having an issue with Excel files
going RO which perhaps is related to acls.
$ ls foo.xls
-r--rwxr--+ 1 mr.bogus staff 101376 Apr 8 12:59 08-04-04 foo.xls
and getfacl gives:

Group mapping not working consistently
I'm trying to understand why my group mapping doesn't work in a
consistent fashion. I've studied "Important Samba-3.0.23 Change Notes" &
chapter 13 of TOSHARG but am still struggling. I'm on 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1
(Fedora Core 4) as a PDC, tdbsam backend.
'net groupmap list' gives this:
Domain Power Users (S-1-5-21-1365060548-1276164359-2333037906-31037) ->

Problem with LDAP failover config
Hi,
I have working master & slave OpenLDAP servers the Samba PDC works
correctly when using either as the passdb backend.
However, when configuring for LDAP failover as per this doc:
http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/2000users.html
Samba doesn't work & the logs fill up with this:
ldap_initialize: Bad parameter to an ldap routine
Connection to LDAP server failed for the 1

Profile Location Best Practice
I have a question about using roaming profiles in a Samba PDC controlled
domain. I know that with Windows 95 and that generation or so, the
profile had to be stored in the same directory as the home folder.
("/sambahomes/john/profile" for example.) You didn't have a choice
because of technical reasons. But that restriction no longer applies
with modern versions of Windows,

Samba And Fedora Directory Server
Just curious, is anyone running Samba 3.x.x with LDAP using the
Fedora/Redhat Directory server as the LDAP backend?

Repeat Review Request
Folks,
I like criticism! Please give me lots of it - particularly in respect of the
updated "Samba-Guide". It should now be up on the Samba mirror sites.
You can download it from:
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-Guide.pdf
I have incorporated all feedback into this book. Did I get it right this time
or should I give up?
So far, not a word of feedback is deafening!

Replace NT 4.0 with Samba PDC but keep PC WINS *Advice*
I am in the process of researching and testing SAMBA as a PDC.
The only thing I am uncertain about is that our billing scheduling system is running WINS and our 110 pc's are configured to use it for wins resolution. I would like to leave WINS on that system but can it coexist with a SAMBA server acting as PDC
but not doing WINS?
I will be replacing an NT 4.0 PDC which has operated with

Dom0 cpu utilisation irregularly distributed
On some production servers with dom0 kernel 2.6.32 pvops and xen 4.0 and
domus mainly windows with gplpv I noticed a strange cpu usage by the dom0
mainly with the use of a single cpu, for example this take from one server:
xm vcpu-list
Name ID VCPU CPU State Time(s) CPU

quality setting vs cpu utilisation
I only have a 4% cpu utilisation decrease when setting quality to 1
(0.1) against setting quality to 9.
Is this normal ?
Also I don't see any CPU % decrease when lowering bitrates (on managed
modes)
The only things that realy reduce the cpu usage is sample rate and
number of channels.
I am a little used with lame which with a quality setting of 9 (aka 0.1
in vorbis_enc) greatly reduce

I have around 6 processes running on CentOS Linux release 7.6.1810 (Core).

Process 1 : How much memory, CPU, I/O and network is currently consuming on

Process 2 : How much memory, CPU, I/O and network is currently consuming on
