Bad Password Count Problem -- LDAP connection failed
Dear Help, Initially, I thought that I had solved this problem, but it turns out that I haven't. I currently have Samba set up as a PDC with an eDirectory/LDAP backend. There are also a few Samba BDCs in play as well. If a user enters the correct password, there are no issues and everything authenticates fine. If I turn off the PDC and force a user to authenticate against a BDC with the

Overloaded samba server. Is it a bug?
Experts, We've just migrated from samba 2.2.8a to samba 3.0.20b in a very large corporate environment. Everything was really fine in our lab, but we began experiment serious load problems on the productive servers the morning after the procedure took place. I'll try (briefly) to describe the characteristics of the scenario: Resources: Old Environment: Hardware:

NT Workstation and Samba PDC
Hi. I'm having a big trouble. We migrate a NT PDC to a Samba PDC. No problems in migration. Everything works fine. The problem is: I can't add a NT machine to Domain. Simply does not work. XP and W2K works great. I started using Debian Sarge Package 3.0.14. In this version I could not manage groups using the Domain User Manager from NT. So I updated to 3.0.23cpackages from samba.org.

PDC + LDAP, cannot access LDAP when not root
I'm using Debian Sarge, Samba (3.1.14a) with the ldapsam backend, and OpenLDAP (2.2.23). When attempting to join an Windows XP+SP2 computer (BILLGATES) to my domain (WORKGROUP), using the Administrator account, I am told by windows: 'Access denied.' The logs (attached) seem to indicate that the user Administrator is being authenticated (which would have? to use LDAP), but when It

Log: lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_open(1009)
Hi. I'm dealing with this "lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_open(1009)" message in the log file. I tried to find some hint in the net but I couldn't find anything that pointed to a solution. Below are the surrounding messages in a excerpt of the log file: [2007/04/02 17:31:10, 3] passdb/lookup_sid.c:fetch_sid_from_uid_cache(918) fetch sid from uid cache 1088 ->

Access denided when join samba+ldap PDC
Hi all! I'm settting up a samba PDC on SuSE 9.3 with samba 3 using OpenLDAP. I've got some problems when i try to join a Windows XP Pro sp2 worstation into the samba PDC. Windows tell me that i dont have access to join the domain, and samba logfiles says that LDAP can't be running as non-root. When I try to join the domain from XP it asks after login and passwd and here i've try

Samba PDC (3.0.14a) with LDAP cannot add machines
Hi, I am setting up a Samba PDC which uses LDAP for account information. It is a debian installation with samba 3.0.14a and slapd 2.2.23 (I'm also using ldap-account-manager, but I don't think that has anything to do with this). I have checked the release notes whether it might have been fixed in a new release, but there's nothing I recognize that seems related to this. The

Password trouble with LDAP (eDirectory)
Hi All, I have a strange problem with passwords, stored in LDAP. When i try to logon as a user with the correct password, access is denied and the log says check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [administrator] -> [administrator] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER When i try to logon a user with incorrect password, access is (of course) denied, but the log now says

smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root..
Greetings list, I just upgraded my main file server, and copied over a dump of my LDAP database, samba conf files, tdbs, etc. Everything fired up OK and runs, except: -Some users (perhaps 5 or 6 out of 125) can't log in, getting the "domain unavailable" message -I can't rejoin them to the domain - the process appears to succeed, but doesn't -One of the machine accounts

Account lockout - Bad password count
Hi everyone, I'm unable to make the account lockout to work properly. & this is driving me mad. I am running samba Version 3.0.23c-1.fc5 as a PDC with openldap 2.3.19 on a fc5 (all packages from yum). I was running a 3.0.21 with the same issue. I'm using as well the Idealx script to manage the LDAP. The fact: I have a very strange behavior. The domain policy have been setup with the

Srvtools causes smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
I am using Samba 3.0.10-1 on Fedora Core 3. Most everything seems to be working as I expect it to except when I try to use the srvtools package to administrate the users and groups in the domain. I want to check and see whether maybe I am just misunderstanding usage as opposed to their being a configuration problem. If I log into my workstation as Administrator, either the local account or into

smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
Hi ! I though I solved my "add users to the doman admins group" by chmod /usr/local/private/secrets.tdb to 644, but in fact I still have the same problem. For now, I'm concentrating about something that's in my log file: [2003/09/15 17:39:53, 0] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:ldapsam_search_one_group(1634) ldapsam_search_one_group: Problem during the LDAP search: LDAP error:

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
Hi Daryl, > I recently migrated our samba PDC to an LDAP backend on a test machine. > Testing my account policies, I found out that the password lockout did not > work. bad password lockout works fine in Samba AD mode. Is there a technical reason for you to keep on using PDC NT4 mode? In AD mode, you'll also get a LDAP, and it will be much easier to setup and manage! By the way,

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
I found out the answer to why the bad password count was failing by following the stack trace If anyone has the same problem, this was caused by my access rights being too restrictive. source/passdb/Init_sam_from_ldap.c:1064 => There is a "goto fn_exit;" in case ldapsam_get_entry_timestamp() fails before the cache is read via login_cache_read. This function will fail if it cannot
