Default User in netlogon trouble
Hey Samba list, I have a Default User folder in the netlogon share on my samba PDC. I am having a very difficult time getting users to use this as their default profile. I think my basic understanding of how this is supposed to work might be flawed. My current understanding is as follows. When a user logs onto a domain for the first time Windows XP Pro SP2 machines first check the

Windows 7 v. Samba: why is default network profile in 'NETLOGON/Default User.v2' not used?
Setup: - Samba 3.5.6 (Debian Stable release, amd64); - Testing Windows 7 client behaviour, specifically with regard to users who don't yet have profiles. The Windows docs state that a domain logon for a new user will cause the default network profile to be used if available, if not then a default local profile is used instead. The location for the default network profile is

%LOGONSERVER% variable in netlogon/Default User folder redirection
Hi, (This is taken form here : http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold ) I'm using folder redirection so I have a NTUSER.DAT file in the "netlogon" directory on the logon server (the primary domain controler), which I edited with regedit to set up some folders so that they point to the logon server by using the %LOGONSERVER% variable, and it seems it

Netlogon share and locking
Rob, I hope you have referred to the example smb.conf file. We really cut our teeth on some of the example config settings. It is IMPERATIVE that nothing in the NETLOGON share should become locked - this breaks the logon process very badly! Some Win95 clients will always hang on logon if any files end up being locked in the netlogon share. For the record, here is an extract from

Multiple Default Users in \\%L\netlogon
Hallo! I am running samba version 3.01012 on a fc2 server. My network has win 2000 clients. I have by default deleted the local Default User on the clients, and instead put the Default User in \\%L\netlogon. This works nice. However, there are different branches at the school where I am running the network, and I would like machines to get a Default User profile which is specially designed for

BDC needs a [profile] and [netlogon] share ?
Hi all, I have a BDC which uses the LDAP backend of my PDC. Unfortunately all the users who log-in in the morning and who are processed by this BDC, do not get their logon script executed. The BDC logs this error message: [2013/05/24 07:28:11.946577, 2] auth/auth.c:304(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [foobar] -> [foobar] -> [foobar] succeeded

Windows 10 in Samba 3 domain: netlogon share access denied
I just joined a Windows 10 (build 10130) to our Samba 3 domain. It seems to work. I can login, a home directory is created on the server, and I can access shares. All shares are OK, except "netlogon". Logon scripts don't run, and I cannot open the netlogon share. I get "Access denied" and a prompt to enter my username and password, which keeps coming back. At the

"locking = no" - netlogon share for PDC
What does the list think of setting "locking = no" on the netlogon share for a PDC? The man page for smb.conf says we should never need to set the parameter, but given that it's a read-only share for most users, I have a hard time discerning any downside to this. Thoughts? z: mapping on netlogon share
Is there any way to change the default netlogon share from using z: in logon scripts? We use a Win95 time recording software package that uses the same drive mapping and need to put it on our RH6.1 fileserver but have the obvious conflict. Bit of a problem really. Thanks. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

netlogon shares
Hi I have a Samba server running 1.9.18p7 on a Solaris 2.5 machine. It is set up with a netlogon share. I have 4 Win95 PCs for which I have created identical <machinename>.bat files in the netlogon directory. However, only one of those PCs is running the 'root preexec' script and running the commands in %m.bat. Anyone have any idea why ? I've appended the global and netlogon

Intermittent access to Sysvol/Netlogon shares
Hello all- Cutting to the chase, I'm noticing varying/intermittent access to the netlogon and sysvol shares. All clients are windows 7 and samba is 4.0.6. Some clients are able to run 'gpupdate /force' and will successfully apply updates. Other clients fail out on this and state that it can't read the default domain policy GPT.INI file from \\<domain>\.... When I try to
