Installing windows drivers into print$ on OS X 10.5 Leopard
Has anyone had any success installing windows printer drivers onto a
leopard-hosted print$ share?
If I use the Add Printer Wizard method, if copies the driver files to \
\SERVER\print$\W32X86 then fails with an "Operation cannot be
completed."
If I use the rpcclient method I get a WERR_INVALID_PARAM error. Using
the Adobe Generic PostScript driver as an example.

Fw: Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.2 SMB
Hi Guys,
Can anyone offer me any assistance at all with the query below.
Even perhaps if there is some "how to" somewhere to get Tiger pcs to join a domain.
I really need to get this problem solved, and I have searched and searched and haven't found anything yet.
Thanks!

High CPU load with multiple SMB processes with Yosemite clients
Hello Folks,
We just moved our Samba file server from version 3.6.3 to 4.2.10 (the
lastest updates for CentOS 7.2).
Our Windows clients are working well, but we are unable to use it for
our Mac clients (Yosemite).
The clients are configured to use their home directories from this file
server.
Here's the config:
[global]
workgroup = BLAH.COM
netbios name = FILESERVER

Locking problems on a Windows server with samba OSX clients
Hello,
I have a small amount of Mac OS X 10.3 workstations networked on a Windows 2000 server. The samba version on the Macs is 3.0.10.
For each file stored on the Windows server, the Macs create a file beginning with "._" which contains some resources about the file. My problem is that, just by browsing onto directories, the Macs seem to be locking all those "._" files (and

Accumulating smbd processes and sockets in CLOSE_WAIT state
Hello list
Our central fileserver is a Samba 3.0.25b on Solaris 9 and has
10'000 users (several hundreds at the same time).
This week it died on us and when I inspected the machine, it
was out of 8GB Memory and 16GB Swap because thousands of
smbd processes were running.
netstat -na showed that many hundreds of connections to
port 445 were in CLOSE_WAIT state.
We first thought it could be

Hi Rowland,
I appreciate the the help! You did exactly what I
ask for, which was to let it rip.
I will have to read over slowly several times. Be nice
to disable winbind too.

[samba4] smbd processes never die after logoff
Hello,
I'm using Samba 4.0.5 in Debian Wheezy as a member server of a DC (in Debian Wheezy too with Samba 4.0.5) and the clients are Windows7 Pro. The users use shares in the member server.
Sometimes, after the logoff of the users in the Win7 clients, there are connections with the member server whiches never stop. I can see it with the "smbstatus" command which point PID out to me

smb keeps stale connections from logged out users and shut down clients
We are using Samba 3.0.33 as a PDC and file server for Windows XP
clients, but seem to be suffering lots of stale connections. smbstatus
still shows connections from users already logged out and even from
systems which have already been shut down.
Restarting the samba service, cleans up all stale connections.
We tried deadtime = 5 in the samba configuration file, but this does
not help at all.

I regularly have the problem that no new connections to our samba

Hundreds of auth-worker sockets in /etc/dovecot
I run dovecot 1.2.6, before last update I had 1.2.2. on Debian Lenny. I
noticed that my config directory /etc/dovecot is filled up with hundreds of
old auth-worker.12345 sockets. I guess they should have been cleaned up, is
there a misconfiguration? When I remember right, this did not happen with
dovecot 1.1.

Defunct processes on solaris 10
Hi,
I'm getting a few defunct processes running samba 4.4.16. They tend to
accumulate over time, however they dissapear after I do a `svcadm
restart samba`. Samba is joined to an AD domain.

Linux Samba server mounts hundreds of filesystems
We are a fairly large site with several thousand unix filesystems available
for a Samba server to mount. Some Windows user or users are running an
application or command that causes the Samba server to mount everything. Even
though we have a specially hacked kernel that allows upward of 7000 mounts, the
mount table fills up and messes up the automounter. This is not a Samba issue.

profiles?
Sometimes a user logging in takes a while. I suspect the
time delay is due to the size of a user's profile. Where
is the profile data kept and how can this data be scrubbed
or compressed?

one mongrel with hundreds of CLOSE_WAIT tcp connections
Hi, I''m running into a strange issue where one mongrel will sometimes
develop hundreds of CLOSE_WAIT TCP connections, mostly to apache (I think --
see sample lsof output below). I haven''t had a chance to get the mongrel
with this behavior into USR1 debug mode yet. I didn''t catch it in time.
This happens a couple times a day on average at seemingly random times.

Samba 4.10 member: SMB login no longer working
Overall domain architecture hasn't changed since my spring cleanup post
earlier (I did sort out the krb5 packages and logging settings, though).
To start the migration, I figured I'd first update the file servers,
since they're the least critical component. Upgrade 4.5 ? 4.8, 4.8 ?
4.9, 4.9 ? 4.10 seemed to work fine each step.
However, SMB logins either with smbclient or with
