weird Windows profile creation
It seems weird. On 75% of my machines, it creates accounts as:
c:\documents and settings\username
on 25% of the machines, it creates them as:
c:\docments and settings\username.DOMAINNAME
These are fresh machines, so it's unclear to me where this behavior
stems from. We're not using roaming profiles.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens?
thanks

login scripts --what to use
Hi,
We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver
the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to
printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share.
Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and
simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files?
Thanks,
chris

How would a script line for that look? Does anybody have one done

Thank you,

file creation mode is not obeyed
Samba 3.0.26a
OpenSuse 10.3
In samba.conf the default file creation mode is set to 775 (group write).
This mode is not followed or established when a domain user creates a file.
It is not group writable.

Question "Access Denied"
It seems that people all across the net have had issues with the particular
error of "Access Denied" when an XP user attempts to join a domain - but no
readily available answers are given.
What might be causing this error? I'm using an Ubuntu 8.04 server with all
the defaults for the Samba server installation.

Is this possible? If so how?

Read Write Permission
Hi Everyone,
I've setup file server for my client with these schemes :
1. Samba server is on CentOS box
2. Every user has their Unix accounts
3. Every Unix accounts have their mapped Samba users/accounts with same name
4. They can get access to some shares, eg :
[Accounting]
path = /public/accounting
valid users = alexander, bernard, charlie, david, eugene

Problem with network drives
Hi,
I have a Windows Xp station where a network drive is mapped. The
username and password for this network drive are the same as those of my
Windows session.
I want to access to another share on this server with another name and
login than those of the mapped network drive. When I try to access to
this share it tries with the username and password from my Windows
session. I can see it in the

Slow listing of mapped drives in Explorer
We recently moved our Linux file servers from Debian Woody to Debian Etch
(v4.0r3). We use the current stable Debian Samba package which is version
3.0.24.
Since moving to this Samba version from 2.2.8a-0.1 we see that Windows
clients are very slow to list the 5 network drives mapped by our domain
login script in Explorer or "My Computer". It can take 10 seconds or so
before the drives

Desktops for non-roaming profiles
Hi list,
In my current organization, we aren't going to be using roaming profiles
(for various reasons, it's not desired). I'm moving us from no domain
controller to Samba as a PDC (with an OpenLDAP backend), and I'm trying
to make the process as invisible as possible to the end users. Each XP
user's local desktop exists at:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>

Configuring a samba server with two NICs
Hi all,
I am trying hard to configure samba, but I can not achieve my goals.
Other than standard man pages, I have seen also many posts/documents

So, please, let me explain my settings and what I am looking to set up.
First of all, my desktop runs ubuntu 8.04 with samba 3.0.28a
On the pc I have 2 nics, eth0 and eth1.
