Questions on connecting to AppleShare IP via Samba
Dear Support:
We have several Solaris 7 computers that need to be able to mount an
AppleShare IP server to their filemanagers. Since AppleShare IP support
SMB, I think that this is the best way to get these computers talking to
each other. To that end, I've tried to use SMB to network the two computers.
The Appleshare IP has two NICs connected to two different networks: One is

Appleshare IP 6.2 and smbfs
Hi,
I'm having trouble connecting to an Appleshare IP 6.2 Mac that is
doing SMB file sharing from my RedHat Linux 7.2 box. I've looked and
looked and looked at many things and many SMB clients. I've tried
smbclient, smbmount, Sharity, and even just doing a mount -t smbfs. All
of them come back with something of this form:
Protocol Negotiation Failed
SMB connection failed.

Massive confusion with samba mounting
Hi,
I have a dilemma - here's some background:
Up until recently, a series of local scripts that run on our network ran on
a Mac OS X box. I would like to migrate these scripts to a Fedora Core 4 box
(for better perl, ruby, and pythoiin support), however, the scripts use
directories in the Appleshare network.
I have the /Volumes directory, in which OSX mounts the shares, shared via

[Question] Multichannel load-balancing algorithm
Hello,
I have a question about multichannel and the load-balancing algorithm.
What kind of algorithm is it? (Roud-robin, dynamic round-robin, ...)
What are the arguments the algorithm compute to load-balance the
network traffic on the interfaces?
I already know that if a 10Gb/s interface and a 1Gb/s interfaces are
in the multichannel connection the 1Gb/s one will be ignored until the
10Gb/s goes

can't see my Samba shares using Appleshare
Hi
I can use Appleshare to see my Samba shares when the
Mac OS9 and the Samba is in the same segment, but when
I move my Mac to another segment separated by a
Firewall (all ports open), I can't see my Samba
shares?
Can anyone help me?
Best Regards,
Fook Sheng

Addition: How to compile SSH on Jaguar (Mac OS X), technical question
Thanks to all the help I got in writing my HOW TO, im am getting closer
to isuue it.
I have just seen a file called:
/System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/sshHelper
I wonder what will break, if I disable Apples own OpenSSH
implementation. Would FileSharing not work anymore? Any workarounds
known?
I mean what will happen to Apple Share if I add a first line to both

Network Trash Folder - how to do it?
Hello,I saw on Apple mashines connected to AppleShare Server that they had
something called 'Network Trash Folder'. That is if some is working on a
server volume and deletes a file from the volume, the file appears in user's
Trash on his Desktop (but?it is really placed on the server in volume's
special folder called 'Network Trash Folder'). So he can restore the file if

Block size optimization - let rsync find the optimal blocksize by itself.
Hello,
Another French student in the rsync mailing list. I have been working on
rsync this year for a documentation project for school and I would like to
give some comment about rsync block size optimization first, and then to
submit a way to make rsync choose by itself the optimal blocksize when
updating a large number of files.
Well, the first comment: during my work, I wanted to verify

Selecting Best Model in an anova.
Hello,
I have a simple theorical question about regresion...
Let's suppose I have this:
Model 1:
Y = B0 + B1*X1 + B2*X2 + B3*X3
and
Model 2:
Y = B0 + B2*X2 + B3*X3
I.E.
Model1 = lm(Y~X1+X2+X3)
Model2 = lm(Y~X2+X3)
The Ajusted R-Square for Model1 is 0.9 and the Ajusted R-Square for Model2 is 0.99, among many other significant improvements.
And I want to do the anova test to choose the best

compression + max file size upload liimit?
I am using Mongrel Cluster with Apache 2.2.3 + mod_proxy_balancer and
would like to enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput)
and limit file size upload. I configured mod_deflate and
LimitRequestSize in Apache, but in my trials looks like the proxied
calls bypass those directives (the conf goes below).
Is there a way to get this?

big file server #2
Hi
just to tell...
a while ago I asked about making a big file server. the main goal is to
have a cheap box with ca. 1 TB.
I decided to go with the following :
- PIV 2,4 GHz, 512 MB DDR 333
- mobo gigabyte w/ i845PE
- additional IDE card w/ 2 ATA (gives me 8 devices max)
- 1 40/60 GB disk for system
- 5 200 GBs disk for data
- RH 9.0 OOTB over sgi-xfs 1.2 install
- soft raid 0

As in, have a way for the client and server to negotiate that both
understand an LZO extension, at which point the client can request a
read or write with a flag set to mark that the data is LZO-compressed,

Apple Share Client / NT Server Login Problems
I am wondering if anyone has seen this behavior with an AppleShare
Client 3.8.3 and an NT Server set up as a Macintosh File Server. I
am not sure of the specifics on the NT Server. After clients log onto
the server and enter their Username and passwords and then submit,
the log on procedure locks up. A force quit with Apple+Option+Esc
quits the client and then the share is mounted on the

some win2K machines get "incorrect username/password" error
A recent update was made to our "standard image" for new computers. It is for win2K.
These new computers cannot connect to a Samba 3 server running a simple smb.conf.
(Just for the sake of full disclosure, the same exact symptom is happening also with an old appleshare ip server offering SMB)
The slightly older win2K machines have no problem connecting.

Access Suddenly Cut Off to Samba Shares
Hi.
I'm hoping some samba genius has a clue about what's happening on my system.
I am using Mandrake 10 "Community Release". It comes with Samba 3.0.2. I have
been using it without problems for two weeks, and before that I had Mandrake
10 betas and Release Candidates running on the same machine.
Today, all of a sudden, I can't access any of my Samba shares over my
