Winbind in Win2003 ADS: wbinfo -u works, wbinfo -g does not
With samba 3.0.24 (Debian Etch packages) I joined a Windows 2003 ADS

replication failing for 4.9.4
Hai,
DC1, did you reboot it or just restarted services, i advice a reboot.
Then on DC2. Samba internal DNS by accident?
If so, stop samba, set log level = 10
Start it wait 30 sec, stop it.
Now change the resolv.conf so DC1 is the first contacted.
and start it again.
Test again.
Now im out the office in 15 min, but try this.
Keep these logs, a samba dev may ask for it.

Hi all,
I am not able to mount samba shares after upgrading CentOS 7.5 to 7.6. I
have been searching and trying to configure samba and winbind but no
success. I find a lot of manuals and help pages about setting samba and
winbind for machine acting as AD DC member but

problems adding a computer to LDAP domain in 3.0.23c
Hi,
In 3.0.23 and 3.0.23c in our domain controlled by samba with an
ldapsam backend when I try to add a machine to the domain I now get this
message:

'algorithmic rid base' is set but a passdb backend without algorithmic
RIDs is chosen.
Please map all used groups using 'net groupmap add', set the maximum

Win7 client error after classicupgrade from S3 to S4
Hi.
We're trying to upgrade an old NT domain to AD. It's our second upgrade, and while the first was successfull this one has raised some issues for existing Windows 7 clients.
If we disconnect the computer from the domain and join it back to the new S4 AD it works. Existing clients throws this error in Samba:
Kerberos: AS-REQ b1rd42nbtmp648$@NT4DOMAIN from ipv4:10.0.0.42:49472 for krbt

upg. CentOS 7.5 to 7.6: unable to mount smb shares - samba NT domain member using ldap
Thank you Gordon for this tip but it does not solve my problem.
From smb.conf:
workgroup = NT4DOMAIN
netbios name = NT4MEMBER
I am able to connect to smb share from linux client:
smbclient //NT4MEMBER/share1 -U NT4MEMBER\\user1
but from windows machine it is not possible.
Correct command from linux client should be
smbclient //NT4MEMBER/share1 -U NT4DOMAIN\\user1
(user is from NT4DOMAIN, not

Winbind error "Could not fetch our SID - did we join?"
We did, in fact, join mere seconds ago, but for some reason, winbind
still can't find itself. ADUC etc meanwhile have no trouble finding the
newly added computer account.
Wiping /var/{lib,cache}/samba/ (and the computer account) makes no
difference, the error persists.
How do I proceed?

Test successful migrate Samba3 to Samba4: keep existing servers and add a new AD DC
Hi everyone,
I did a test migration from Samba3 to Samba4. So far everything works
fine. Great work! Thanks to Samba team.
I want to share my experience with you and look for your comments.
My existing servers:
1. Samba 3.4.5(compiled) server: domain logon + file sharing + printer
sharing ( 300 users + 200 win7)
2. 5 samba3 file servers(using the same ldap backend, so uid and gid

Cannot start Samba 3.0.23a
I just installed Samba 3.0.23a from the sources on a Slackware 10
server kernal version 2.4.26. I didn't get any errors during
installation. When I try to start the Samba daemon by smdb -D nothing
happens. Here is a snippet from log.smbd:

pdb_new_rid: Failed to find unused RID
We are getting the following error trying to add new samba users or machines:
pdb_new_rid: Failed to find unused RID
Does this have something to do with idmap?
The following command shows a big jump in ID numbers with the last ones having
the same number repeated.

After upgrade to 4.9.4, internal DNS no longer working
Hi list,
I just upgraded my Samba AD DC to v4.9.4. Unfortunately, I can't recall
which version I had before that, I believe it must have been something
between 4.6 and 4.8.
Anyway, now that the upgrade is done, it looks like DNS is gone. Host
commands are timing out, netstat reveals that no process is listening on
:53.
Other than that, Samba is starting and working fine. I can list shares,
