Samba PDC, v3.0.25b, tdbsam: winbindd seems to be broken...
Help... I'm running Samba v3.0.25b, recently upgraded from v3.0.23a. I use tdbsam, winbindd etc. Winbind appears to be broken. When I do: * getent passwd none of the DOMAIN\xxxx users are listed * getent group the BUILTIN\administrators and BUILTIN\users groups are listed, but none of the DOMAIN\xxxx groups * wbinfo -u gives an enigmatic "Error

Samba Domain Member Server -- tdbsam/winbind/idmap_rid -- file ownership ?
I have just struggled to implement a Samba Domain Server, and have some remaining issues. I have a Samba PDC using tdbsam, managing a domain called RHEA. I have (finally) configured a new Samba Domain Server (AUREUS) using winbind and idmap_rid. When I am logged in to RHEA as user GMCH I can access a TMP share on AUREUS (at last). Running 'getent passwd' I get (inter alia):

New domain, Samba PDC, tdbsam, where are the groups?
I'm setting up a new domain with Samba 3.0.30 as the PDC using the tdbsam backend. 'net group' yields an empty list, which is consistent with the cautious appoach that Samba takes: don't do anything automagically. But, a new Windows PDC will come online with several well-known domain users and groups. Did I miss the step where I run some stock script that creates these expected

Change Domain SID
Is there a way to change SAMBA Domain SID? My SAMBA PDC Server hard drive crashed. I have created a new install with new Samba PDC Server. I know my old Domain SID. Is there a way to change the New Domain SID to original SID? I have read losts of thread here. I have tried "net setlocalsid SID" command on the SAMBA PDC Server. But, that did not change the Domain SID. I have

adding machines to the domain with Samba 3.0.0
Is there something special I need to do to let root add computers to the domain in 3.0? When I try to add the workstation I get an error about 'user not found' even though I can logon to a workstation joined to the domain as 'root'. I was able to add computers to the domain with 2.2.8 with an 'add user command' entry and 'domain admin group = root' in my

Problem with duplicated groups?
Hello, i have some problems migrating a Windows 2000 PDC to a Debian GNU/Linux Samba Server, i want to migrate it to a LDAP backend.. but as i'm kind of newbie with ldap and samba migration stuff, i preffered to migrate it to tdbsam first and try it for a while, if everything works fine, then switch to a ldap backend. "net setlocalsid" question
Hi, I'm a tad confused about something. I've got a production instance of Samba running. I am trying to get a test version running on the same box, with the same SID. Without the test server running, I used "net setlocalSID <oldsid>" (the net binary is the one for the new server). Then when I issued 'net getlocalsid' it returned it. I thought I was fine.

There must be a way to change that

Migrate to Debian Etch - nogo
Hi Everyone, I have a small project going on. I'm about to migrate Redhat 7.3 to Debian Etch (smbd version 3.0.23d-2+b1). I've already managed to migrate Redhat 7.3 to Debian Sarge (smbd version 3.0.14a-) without any bigger problems. However, when I migrate to Etch I face a small problem. The last thing I want to do before I start samba is to grant my linux/samba admin, NT 'Domain
