Problem joining an active directory domain
All, I am having issues joining a Xandros box running Samba 3 to an active directory domain. net rpc join works fine, but net ads join results in errors. I have put the results (debug level 10) of a net ads join at the end of this email. Basically, it appears that it cannot find any servers (finds an IP address that looks like it might have overflowed, and calls it a "dead

Using idmap_rid backend, cannot browse home directory from XP
Samba version is 3.0.10 on Gentoo linux. I am trying to use idmap_rid backend in a Windows AD environment, the Linux PC acting only as a domain member. I am using idmap_rid because I need UID/GID predictability. I can log in to console correctly, and it shows the right user and the "Domain Users" as the group. When I use default winbind TDB, I can browse the home directory from an XP

Winbind 3.2.3 error with trusted domains
With Samba on Debian Lenny joined to a Server 2003 Native domain that has two incoming non-transitive trusts (users in my domain can authenticate to the foreign domains, but their users cannot authenticate to us) winbind is taking a very long time to authenticate or list users the first time it is used after starting. Winbind blocks for four to five minutes, and anything that touches winbind will

Kerberos works, but "net ads join" fails
Hi List, this is gonna be a really funky/interesting/uncommon error you're going to deal with (if you do). Developer(s): I'd be really happy if you can point me at the right source files or describe at which stage of the "discussion" between my servers fail. This might be of some use.. But let's get to the facts: SYMPTOMS -------- 1) Invoked "kinit", no

slow directory access, convert_string_internal: Conversion error: Incomplete multibyte sequence
There are definitely some files with some weird names- in an ssh session they don't even have regular characters. e.g -rw-rw---- 1 xxx xxx 114985112 Oct 31 14:39 ▒^t Not sure if that is related to problems though. The top command shows Memory: 12G phys mem, 343M free mem, 2048M total swap, 2048M free swap This is in the evening so should not be much load but I think

convert_string_talloc: Conversion error: Incomplete multibyte sequence
My users are having a lot of problems since I upgraded a samba domain member server from samba-3.0.37 to 3.5.X. The main issue seems to be a very long delay loading office files (sometimes minutes if the file loads at all) and a lot of read only errors and users not being able to save. I have found that rebooting the client, restarting samba, or killing the users smbd process regains access to the
