Ubuntu Jaunty samba 3.3.2 print$ no write rights even though I do
I finally fixed my problem by removing samba completely removing samba and reinstalling it. What I discovered is it appears to be an issue with rights. When I reinstalled samba the /var/lib/samba had rights like this.
drwxrwxr-x+ 5 root root 4096 2010-01-11 23:27 samba
On my original install where the 5 is it was a 6. After the reinstall the rights the rights on /var/lib/samba was reset to 5

Ubuntu Jaunty samba 3.3.2 print$ no write rights even though I do; -)
Initially when I posted my access problems to print$ I was using the new registry based smb.conf I had my whole configuration in the registry. Now I move my printers and print$ back to the text based smb.conf and I copied the standard ubuntu debian [printers] and [print$] out of the original ubuntu package smb.conf and the only modification that I made was under the [print$] I change read only to

tdbedit imports from smbpasswd ok but sets domain value as old domain
I tried to send this before but it might need re-sending...
Hi,
Just found this out - is it a bug which I should register or is this by design?
We had been running a Samba 2.2 server for a few years with a domain called PSCT
- everybody very happy (well done guys!). Installed a new server with Samba 3
based on Debian Etch. The new server was set as the domain PSCT2 to keep things
clear.

Add printer in cups but is not being shared by samba
I added a printer to cups and samba is not sharing the printer. I have
twenty some printers shared with no problems until this one. How long
can a printer name be in samba? How long a printer name can be cups. I
think in windows it is 31 characters in windows. The printer name is 18
characters long. Any ideas?
Thanks

3.0.24 -- Office read only issue, bizarre EAs and disappearing ACLs
Everyone,
I have finally resolved the new heartburn 3.0.24 on Ubuntu Feisty was
giving me and have stumbled upon some information that might help others
out there.
I was seeing problems with ACL entries getting mangled and disappearing,
Excel making files read only and extended attributes doing bizarre
things. The solution revolved around what appears to be a change in how
ACLs are managed.

Looking for some older printer drivers for some HP printers
I am finding myself in need of some printer drivers for two HP printers
(HP4550N, HP8150DN) that do NOT have the nifty pretty interface? The ones
where it was pretty barebones, no "form storage" or anything.
I'm running 2.2.6rc2 and users still can't seem to change any settings for
printers, and if I can run the older (< 5e versions) drivers, then people
can change

mounting an AD share upon login
Hi everyone,
I am having trouble mounting a share on my AD server upon login.
I am using pam_mount. Here is log activity when user 'peter' logs in
(with Ubuntu client) and is authenticated by AD server. There is a
share called 'peter' on the server (netbios name WIN2003) and the mount
point is /home/PRIVATE/peter (see later for pam_mount.conf file):

Problem with Defaulting Groups and AD
Vital Stats - AMD 64-bit CPU, Ubuntu 7.0.4 (Feisty Fawn), Samba 3.0.24,
Win2003 AD Domain
I'm not sure how to make it stop doing it. When a user "logs in" they
get an automatically assigned group of "domain users" which doesn't
actually exist in any of the file permissions. I've tried setting group
= %G and force group = %G but neither one is working. If

There's a difference whether you logged in as root or su-ed to root. In
the latter case /home is still in use by the user you su-ed from.
Even though it is not strictly necessary to init 1 you must make sure
not a single user that uses /home for their home directory is logged in
and no system

Delete mails in dovecot POP3 has a bug/feature
When a mailbox has abt 40 mails with 4-5 mb attachments , it is quite
common for the pop3 connection to get timed out or disconnected esp. if
user has dialup modem.
In this case , dovecot seems to REALLY HIT the user hard. Because it
simply DOES NOT delete mails , even if user requested so. It only
deletes the mails if users succesfully logs out. No other pop3 server
has this problem so i would

It sounds like /home is being managed by something in the kernel, then.
Are you exporting /home

samba acl + winxp, win2000 server
Hi there.
I need help.
I installed samba + nt acl.
I switched on acl on the filesystem, added users in the /etc/passwd and
in the tdb database samba, using tdbedit.
When I logged in the share, I created a test file, clicked on the right
mouse button, chose properties->security.
And When I clicked on "add" button into Win 2000 server, I saw all my
samba account.
But When I did

Compiz starts, but no 3D effects
I just installed Compiz on Ubuntu Feisty (Gutsy does not work on my

http://ppa.launchpad.net/amaranth/ubuntu repo, which is the repo
suggested in the compiz-fusion website. The machine is a Dell Inspiron
E1505 / 6400 with the horrible ATI X1400 graphics card and 1680x1050
monitor. I installed XGL and the proprietary ATI driver, a combination
that worked

Root user problems with Samba 3.0.0beta1
Hello
Anytime I try to do anything with the root user (like join the domain) or
run 'net user' or 'net group' with root, when I enter the correct
password, I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL ....
I've been trying more commands, and if I run tdbedit -e=tdbsam (to export
the smbpasswd to tdbsam style), I get this error :
tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [root]
