XP can browse samba by IP, but not by name - NMB issues?
I have an XP home (falcon) and an XP pro (tatooine) machine, both behind a rh9 box (hoth) acting as firewall. I've been trying to get samba set up on the linux box. I think I have it mostly working except that the XP boxes won't list hoth under "My Network Places - Microsoft Windows Network - MSHOME", and I cannot access hoth by name at all from the XP-pro box (by IP, I can

strange permission denied problem
I built an embedded box which uses mount.cifs to mount network shares. I've shipped several of these and all are working fine except for one, which gives me permission denied on certain files: root@Mnemosyne:~/mnt/bgrp1/c/Ballance Group Folders/Scully/Client Photos-Scully# cat "Office Pics 002.jpg" > /dev/null cat: Office Pics 002.jpg: Permission denied

bind or samba configuration preventing browsing network
I have a networking problem where I am not certain if the problem is samba or bind. I am still pretty much a nb at linux. The machine in question is running openSuSE 10.2 and is named rd1. I had samba working fine before I started to make it a WINS server and DNS host. I have a small LAN with no real administration functionality. The network is used for simple file sharing and dial-up

Can't see shares, and also smbmount works but mount -t cifs doesn't
Hi (this is most likely a newbie question). A couple of problems. I have a linux guest (puppy) running on vmplayer on a friend's machine, which runs WinXP home. I have folder sharing enabled on the host for a few different folders. I am trying to mount the winxp host shared folders onto the linux guest. First problem is that I can't seem to see the shares. smbtree only lists the

Client access multiple shares with different usernames...
List, I have a FreeBSD box with samba and two shares '\\bsd\foo' and '\\bsd\bar'. Each require a different password. (Different system user accounts and different corresponding samba account.) They both work. The problem is that from Windows 7 and windowsXP clients I can connect to '\\bsd\foo', but then I can never connect to '\\bsd\bar' until I restart. Thereafter

Trouble with virtual server configuration
Greetings, I've been trying to use Samba in a virtual server configuration on one of my linux boxes and am running into trouble. My intention is to get a single samba server to act as 3 seperate servers (netbios names 'Audio', 'Video', 'Pictures') so that later they can be migrated to different machines with little effort. In reading the docs, lists, and available

In the process of upgrading my whole samba setup. I've setup a server as an active directory controller, I created a stand alone member server, I've gotten win10 to join the domain and drive mapping via group policies seems to work with win 10 clients. I still have a few winXP clients that have usefullness. They seem to connect to the domain ok, but they can't see any of the

Mac can't connect to debian after upgrade to Samba 3.0.23
After upgrading my Debian box to Samba 3.0.23, I'm no longer able to connect to it from my Mac OS X 3.9 machine. I can still connect from the linux box TO the mac, but not the other way around. I need to be able to mount the linux volume on the mac. I've had to downgrade to samba 3.0.22 on linux to get it to work. My home network is a simple 2 machine setup with a wired connection. My
