%d does not expand to domain
Hello, dovecot-1.1.7 on FreeBSD 7.1. Usernames have dot in them (like uname.example for a user in example.com). in dovecot.conf I have: mail_location: maildir:/userhomes/maildirs/%d/%n/Maildir and for authentication: username_format: %Ln In the client, tried with CONE and Mail.app, I put the username as: uname.example at example.com So, the authentication works fine, as it extracts

Directly smbmounting share folder (a la w2k)
Hello: Is it possible to directly mount a folder within a windows share using smbmount? For example: smbmount //server/share/folder1 /mnt/folder1 This is do-able with a win2k client, but I can not get it to work with Samba. Here's my situation: I have a communal Linux system that is operating in a primarily Windows group, and I want to give each user access to their windows home

OS2 - Samba
Hi there, I tried to connect OS2 Warp 4 to Samba server. The network used to be NT 4.0 Domain, then migrated to Samba to become Domain Controller. I've followed below instruction, and still can't login to the domain. I can get an IP address and ping the Samba server, but can't login to domain and map any network share.

Convince me to buy TextMate!
I got a Powerbook recently and am debating buying TextMate. I installed the trial and have checked it out, but don''t see what''s so great about it. AFAICS it''s the Ruby and Rails macros for expansion and other stuff that might be it. Other than that, TextMate seems like a pretty basic editor. I currently use PSPad and Editplus, and I could probably get/make macros

%user hack still available ?
hi, does anybody know, if the famous "//server/share%user - hack" is still included in the latest sources? Does it lie dormant somewhere there and can be included by some "#def" ? Or does anybody know of a windows 95/98 gui/commandline-tool, where you can enter the password AND username to connect to a share ? Thanks in advance for your help. Solon

"home folder" v.s. regular drive mappings
Hey, has anyone on the list experienced the following behavior ? When \\server\userhome <\\server\userhome> is specified as the "home folder" in the AD user profile, XP takes a long time to open up "my computer" But when \\server\userhome <\\server\userhome> is mapped via a netlogon script, XP opens "my computer" quickly I've searched ms technet

Windows 2K/XP Profile/Homedir replication issue?
Hey there, Just a question for you Samba 2.2.x gurus out there :) We have a contingent (a steadily increasing contingent) of Win2K and WinXP workstations. Does anyone here know how to stop the profiles from replicating? If we create a file in the profile dir, say \\PDC\UserHome\profile.doc. It will replicate that to the profile directory, while one file or two files are not a problem, we use

Change winbindd UID mapping
Hi, I'm running Samba 3.6.6 on Ubuntu Quantal. I have a need to manually assign some of the UID mapping on a samba domain member file server. I have used tdbtool to add the correct mapping record to winbindd_idmap.tdb. However, I am at a loss as to how to force that change to "propagate" so as to show in the permissions structure of the file system and in the output of such

thanks for the answer, Louis. i m talking about the userhome dir. I ve already read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders and i m applying the posix acls to my share. As the users's home is shared between windows and linux, i d rather use the posix acls than the windows ones. Beside the homedir of my users have a form like /home/ first letter of name /login ( ex : /home/d/dare

Winbind Authentication on Redhat & Home Directories
Hi all, I have Winbind authentication up and running properly (thanks to new, easy to use features of Redhat Ent 4). My question is this. I know that I can, by massaging /etc/pam.d files manually, have Winbind/Samba automatically create a home directory for each user that logs in, but I am wondering if Samba/Winbind can instead map to their home directory as defined in their Windows profile

The thing is that I cannot be able to get Samba and LDAP to talk as they should and now Im really stuck. Problem using LDAP generating Userhome
Hi there, I'm trying to let dovecot generate the userhome directory dynamicly via user_attr. If "uid" is returned from LDAP before "mail" everything is fine, but if "mail" is delivered before "uid" the localpart of the mailaddress is used in home path. e.g.: Mail: testuser at domain.de UID : test123 sometimes home is /mail/store/testuser and
