winbindd running amok
Hi,
on a customer system samba/winbindd is used for windows and unix
authentication.
I just tuned searches of the ldap backend to speedup by factor 20-200 and
slapd now doesn't seem to be the bottleneck anymore.
Don't know how well the windows authentication now works, since this is
presently done by the heartbeat failover server.
However, simply starting 'mc' as root makes

WinXP SP2 winlogon.exe blue screen to death
Hi there,
I have another problem on WinXP SP2 with samba.3.0.20a. Somehow, in a random
situation, once user logged onto the workstations, they were prompted with
the winlogon.exe Fatal error + blue screen to death then self-reboot. When I
checked out the log from windows, it said there's problem on msgina.dll from
WinXP SP2. However, another user can successfully logon to the same
workstation

I can't get windows group permissions on shares to work except for 'domain users'. The windows group I am trying to use is Unix.Samba. This group does not exist on the linux box. It resolves correctly using getent group and when I chgrp files to unix.samba, ls shows the group ownership as Unix.Samba. getent group shows this group with the

Active directory authentication and Solaris 9 problems
Greetings,
I currently have Samba 3.0.14a built using gcc 3.2.2 on a Solaris
9/Sparc box. This Samba server is a member server of our Active
Directory (AD) domain called "CSUNET". When logged unto a windows
client machine as an AD user I can see and access resources on the
Solaris server.
I've been trying to get PAM working to pam_windbind.so and correctly
configured. So

Using idmap_rid backend, cannot browse home directory from XP
Samba version is 3.0.10 on Gentoo linux. I am trying
to use idmap_rid backend in a Windows AD environment,
the Linux PC acting only as a domain member. I am
using idmap_rid because I need UID/GID predictability.
I can log in to console correctly, and it shows the
right user and the "Domain Users" as the group.
When I use default winbind TDB, I can browse the home
directory from an XP

Samba 4.6.11 member server group resolution not working
Hi,
We recently upgraded some AD member file servers from 4.6.7 to 4.6.11.
Since then, "getent group" has been failing to return groups properly
after winbind's been running for a couple of days. We have a lot of
entries in log.wb-<DOMAIN> like this:

winbind + samba limits with large AD?
Hi,
a few months ago I tried to setup samba + winbind (debian etch,
amd64, samba 3.0.24). I followed the howto and got the authentication
running. But I had not much success with winbind. I disabled the
user/group enumeration, but this didn't change it. A simple 'ls -l' in
a directory with 10-20 files took minutes to return the list and most
of the time winbindd just stopped working

Winbind being flakey
After some more screwing around with leaving and rejoining the ADS
domain I was finally able to access a share with "valid users =" set to
a domain group I was a member of. The _only_ change I made after this
was to add yet another group to the valid users on the share and restart
samba...after that I could no longer access the share. I removed the
additional group, restarted samba and

Overloaded winbind
I'm running Samba 3.0.4 on Red Hat Enterprise ES v3 (Update 2), utilizing ACLs on ext3. Yesterday I discovered that my backup application (Galaxy 5.0) doesn't back up ACLs and won't until the next release (sometime this fall). I figured that I'd do a "poor man's backup" of the ACLs by running "getfacl -R --absolute-names /shares > /root/acls" on a daily

Samba 3.3.9 IDMAP problem
Hi all!
I finally found partial but satisfying decision of my problem with FreeBSD
7.2 AD member problem, posted early on this list. I was unable to get
idmap_rid working and now I am using idmap_tdb backend.
My problem is: when AD server (Windows 2003, only one server) is restarted
parts of IDMappings are lost and not restored until Samba is restarted.
After restart SIDs are mapped to exacts
