PDC and BDC across WAN
We have several locations seperated by WAN links. There is one PDC in the central office, and a BDC at each other site. The PDC has a WINS server, all other servers and stations are configured to query this server (hybrid mode - WINS first, then broadcast.) Here is my problem: When one of the BDCs is disconnected from the network, all of the sites suffer problems (ie., Windows logins slow down

Division by zero.
Hi there. I'm getting this exception, Floating point division by zero, when encoding at, for example, 22050 hz. This doesn't happens in a specific song or audio, it mostly happens after several calls to vorbis_analysis. This also doensn't happens, at least so far, at 11025, 8820 or 44100. Also, it doesn't seem to happen at low qualities (0, -0.1). The exception is generated in

Samba and NFS quota problem
Hello, I am mounting via NFS a number of volumes and re-sharing these as CIFS. We have been using this arrangement successfully for a number of years. We are replacing the "CIFS>NFS" proxy servers (which are also PDC/BDCs to OpenLDAP) and a weird problem seems to occur. The problem is the quota/disk size appears to be wrong. For example, if I use the unix quota command on the SMB

Not reading quota under 3.0.0
Hi, I'm using samba 3.0.0 under redhat 9.0. Quota is assinged to user but they can't see their used space on windows explorer. The used space reported is only 8.0k, no matter what they have in ther home. I used the samba rpm downloaded from samba site. For a smbd -b command i get this (extract): --with Options: WITH_ADS WITH_PAM WITH_QUOTAS WITH_SENDFILE WITH_SMBMOUNT

question re: NETBIOS name resolution
Hello All, I am having trouble with the WinNT name resolution of a Linux box running Samba. It appears that NETBIOS is resolving the name itself but doensn't know how to get to the resource. If I cahnge the NETBIOS name of the Samba server to something with more than 8 characters everything works fine. This work around seems like a bad idea since the SMB NETBIOS name is different than the

no applicable method for "names"
hi, after installing R-2.6.0 the function "names" doesn't work anymore on my windows xp machine. for example for a simple vector i get > z <- 1:3 > names(x) Error in UseMethod("name"): no applicable method for "names" ... instead of NULL. the same is true for lists and dataframes. attr(z, "names") is a workaround, but i don't want to

Hi Thanks for the feedback. I currently have 3 production domains. - MYDOMAIN.COM is a production Windows 2008 domain used to support MS Exchange (but not file sharing.) - TECH - Samba3 "classic" domain with unix domain controllers that supports most users for authentication and file sharing. The DC machines are both Samba domains (for Windows clients) and KRB/LDAP

StorageTek 2540 performance radically changed
Today I updated the firmware on my StorageTek 2540 to the latest recommended version and am seeing radically difference performance when testing with iozone than I did in February of 2008. I am using Solaris 10 U5 with all the latest patches. This is the performance achieved (on a 32GB file) in February last year: KB reclen write rewrite read reread 33554432

Samba quota's
Hello, I'm working on a server and I enabled quota's on the filesystem. This works fine. But Samba doesn't see that quota. I have read that you need to compile samba with quota support. My problem is that I have a running Samba (from SuSe 10) and I don't know if there is quota support build in. Is there some way to see if quota support has been compiled in? Greetings, Peter

what happened to smbclient?
I noticed lots of smbclient options are missing in Samba 3.0.14a when compared to 3.0.13 - notably, all user/authentication options - so I can't connect now as a specified user anymore. Is it just my build, or is it "official"? Samba 3.0.14a: # smbclient --usage Usage: [-?] [-?|--help] [--usage] [-R|--name-resolve NAME-RESOLVE-ORDER] [-M|--message HOST] [-I|--ip-address IP]

Disk quota not working on SAMBA
I'm trying to use disk quota on samba. Everything work through command line, but when I tried it on Windows, accessing a share with the same user it did'nt work. Is it necessary to do something different on smb.conf? Samba were compiled with quota support: # smbd -b | grep -i quota HAVE_SYS_QUOTA_H HAVE_LINUX_XFS_QUOTAS HAVE_QUOTACTL_LINUX HAVE_SYS_QUOTAS HAVE_XFS_QUOTAS

How to configure samba domain member to use LDAPS instead of LDAP
My customer complain that in the AD DC they see the following insecure communication coming from the Samba server (DC member): "The following client performed a SASL (Negotiate/Kerberos/NTLM/Digest) LDAP bind without requesting signing (integrity verification), or performed a simple bind over a cleartext (non-SSL/TLS-encrypted) LDAP connection." So Samba does an insecure LDAP bind and
