Problem with tar commands in smbclient 3.0.23c
Since upgrading from CentOS 4.3 to CentOS 5 the smbclient tar commands seem to be broken. The version on 4.3 was 3.0.10 I believe, while on 5 it is 3.0.23c-2. Here's what happens. Running the command: $ /usr/bin/smbclient \\\\host.domain.com\\backup -A /tmp/ntcredentials works fine. It connects no problem. But: $ /usr/bin/smbclient \\\\host.domain.com\\backup -A /tmp/ntcredentials -Tc

smbprint'ing problem
Hey Folks, I've spent several days weeding through list archives and FAQs. I've been given the task to debug a samba printing issue and have really no idea where to start. The version is 3.0.15a and the config in question is exactly the same as the previous version we used. I believe that was 2.8.x (not sure though) I guess the problem is that no matter what I've tried the end

some users cannot authenticate against ADS
Hi everyone, this one is giving me headaches for a while now and I could not get anything useful from the usual sources. So maybe someone on this list can give me any ideas: There is a samba server Version 3.0.22 on Ubuntu Dapper see below for configuration details) and it is configured to authenticate against a Windows 2000 Server Ver. 5.0.2.195 preped for ADS 2003 and

Smbclient - protocol negotiation failed
Hi I just built samba 3.0.11 RPM's from the SRPM provided on samba.org. I'm using Fedora 1, 2.4 kernel. smbclient is causing me an unusual problem. When I start smbd and nmbd and issue: smbclient -d3 -L localhost, I see the following: smbclient -d3 -L localhost lp_load: refreshing parameters Initialising global parameters params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file

Unable to join Windows 2k AD NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
I am having horrendous issues with trying to get Samba 3.0.4 to join to a Windows 2000 AD (patched to current). As this one is hurting a bit and needs to be fixed soon, I was hoping I may find salvation in this list from someone here who may be able to shed some useful light on this issue. I am using the latest gentoo mit-krb5 build. Net join always results in NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED - this

Unable to join domain: FAIDHC01SDCG0402
Hi. I am trying to configure Samba in Domain security mode. I am on a Sun box running Solaris 9 and Samba 3.0.23. A computer account for this Unix Box is configured in the AD Domain (FAFIDDOM) but I am having issues running net rpc join. I am not planning to use winbind as the samba shares that I want to create are going to be used by ClearCase (Rational Configuration Management Tool). ClearCase

Unable to set ACLs with Samba 3.0.11, near publication deadline
Hello, Jeremy and Jerry, I met both of you at LinuxWorld in Boston, where I learned tons and tons of great stuff from your presentations. I'm writing on deadline for publication and would really, really, really like to show off Samba's ability to map NT ACLs to POSIX ACLs. But right now, I can't make them work. I've spent some time on the Samba list trying to make this work, but

Can't connect from Windows
I am setting up my first 3.0.1 installation. I am using Slackware 9.1, I am trying to connect to a Windows 2000 Server. I do not need active directory support (as far as I know). The server's function is a file server. So Users need seamless authentication... of course. I do not have LDAP installed. It's a plain server besides the 3ware RAID. I compiled and installed samba 3.0.1,

smbclient connect problem
I've tried everything I can think of, but still cannot connect to a Windows 2000 share using smbclient. I know the shared directory is set up OK because I can get to it with another Windows box. My smbclient command line should be OK because the same syntax works on another Linux box at work (running a slightly older version of smbclient) to a similarly setup Windows box. This is what I get

cant authenticate Samba -> AD trying to map to shares on samba server
I have read through previous posts but still cant connect to samba shares - any help much appreciated. Running Samba 3.0.10-1 on fedora Core 2. Dont know anything about AD as it's looked after by the big boys and they wont share their secrets with the linux team. I do know the server I need to authenticate with is acting as some sort of time server so I assume that is not an issue.

mount.smbfs and NTLMv2
Hello, context: Samba-3.0.2 on a i386 debian-sarge linux, 2.4 kernel. All the windows machine on our network switched today to NTLMv2, and mount.smbfs can't access anymore ressources which are available to smbclient. Exerpt from smb.conf: client NTLMv2 auth = Yes client lanman auth = No client plaintext auth = No The rest being default. Doing smbclient -L server

smbclient recursive get skips files (rarely)
We seem to have stumbled onto an intermittant bug using smbclient to retrieve files from a W2000 server. Every so often it just ignores some files on a recursive mget. When it ignores files it always ignores the same files. The exact same command repeated again may (or may not) pick up that file. Running a DIR on the directory in question shows the same defect, sometimes the cursed file is

Can not connect to share "NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME"
I have Suse 9.1 + Samba 3.0.9 + winbind joined to a Windows 2000 AD domain "MyCompany". Yesterday for some unknown reason (appears to be Win2K issue) connections to Samba and the ability to browse the domain "MyCompany" from Win2K/XP workstations failed but connections to the public share offered by the Win2K server were OK. Also, all Win98 workstations and were unable to

What is WERR_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi, I searched through the list archives and saw this question asked but not answered, so I'm hoping someone can help me. I am trying to use rpcclient to set a printer driver and it's failing with the error message: WERR_ACCESS_DENIED. I've included the full output of the command at debug 4 level below. Here's the probably pertinent information. First, this use to work.

net rpc query
Hi. I'm using samba-3.0.24 on a gentoo box. The samba machine is configured as a domain member server within a MS Windows 2003 active directory. It has been successfully joined to the domain and everything works, shares, kerberos, ldap. However, I cannot get nested groups to work, or more precisely, I cannot add a local group using net rpc. Here is what I am doing: gentoo ~ # net rpc

Windows Server 2003 SP1 Issues (3.0.15pre2)
Hi All, I'm running into some issues accessing a Samba server that's in turn authenticating against a Win2k3-SP1 domain controller (security=ads). I understand there were some known issues corrected in a patch, and I'm currently running 3.0.15pre2, which I understand includes that patch. (http://samba.org/~jerry/patches/post-3.0.13/winbindd_2k3sp1.patch) All was working fine

NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
Hi, I've installed Fedora C1 with Samba 3.0.2 and openldap 2.1.22. I've followed the example in the Samba-3 by example guide to use my server as a PDC. I'm able to connect to this server with all my users but I'm unable to use "Administrator" to log. Maybe it's normal but I doubt it. Here's the log I got for smbclient: [root@fs01 sbin]# smbclient -L
