FreeBSD and Winbind
I'm hoping this is an easy question, but the way my day has gone I seriously doubt it is going to be. Today, I installed Samba 3.0.24 with winbind support on my FreeBSD 6.2 server. I am able to join my domain and get information concerning groups and passwords from the domain controller (Windows 2003) without any problem. Where I have run into a problem is using getent to get a copy of the

winbind uid problem
I have installed winbind and it is working, but I need to change the uid/gid being used by winbind since I am running into some conflicts with UIDs. UID 10071 is being used by my spamfilter and winbindd is also mapping one of the user IDs from the W2K3 server to 10071. In an attempt to change this, I modified my smb.conf file as follows. [global] workgroup = MO idmap gid =

Sharp AR-M550N and SAMBA
Recently, we added a Sharp AR-M550N copier to our network. This device functions as an MFC (scanner/printer/copier). When I attempt to install the drivers to the SAMBA server, I receive an error message which displays briefly and then I receive the following error message when trying to access the properties of the printer. Function address 0x3119c9f caused a protection fault. (exception code

APW New Driver Greyed Out
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have done this before, but for the life of me cannot get it to work today. I am trying to setup SAMBA to allow non-technical users (one per site) to add printer drivers as needed. I am running Samba 3.0.24. Following are the relevant entries from smb.conf. # workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgroup-Name pid directory = /var/run/ workgroup = BACKUPS

Samba share is not writeable
I am having difficulty with Windows shares mounted with smb on my linux machine. The mount directory will not have write permissions for anyone, no matter what. The mount directory that I use is /home/samba. It has 0700, or drwx------ permissions when it is not connected to Samba. It is owned by the user jhall, and the group root. When I mount it, if I use dmask 0777, I get dr-xr-xr-x. If I use

Win95, sharing printers and drives
I have two computers ROLAND (RedHat 5.2 and Samba) and LINDA (Windows95). I am already able to print on the printer connacted to LINDA. Yesterday, before I managed to get the printer working, I was alos able to see ROLAND's directory 'tmp' and 'winD' on LINDA. The problem that I saw this morning was that the printing still works but LINDA can no longer see the shares of

Can't validate USER@DOMAIN in Runas
I have my XP-Pro machine setup as a member of an Samba-based Domain server. I usually run as "linda@<localmachine>", but wanted to try running a program using "RunAs" in the "Home", DOMAIN my machine belongs to. The runas command says: RUNAS [ [/noprofile | /profile] [/env] [/netonly] ] /user:<UserName> program with Notes: NOTE: Enter user's

Why isn't "<Domain>\<User>' = to <User> on PDC? Isn't it supposed to be?
When I access my PDC, via a unix service, from a Domain client with a domain login, the PDC attempts to validate <Domain>\<User> against the the authentication DB, but on a mounted file system, a user on the PDC = '<domain>\<user>' ... (which is what I thought it should be). But if I use 'ssh <Pdc>', it authenticates as user 'Domain\User'

simple migration 2.8 -> 3.02; simple test cases fail
I've been going back and forth over the HOWTO on bringing up a new samba 3.0 server in place of an old 2.8. I only have about 2-3 users, so even recreating them isn't a major pain -- but what does seem to be a pain is password authentication. I was using smbpasswd before, and am using it in my 3.0 setup as well. I'm running a version for Suse90 pointed to off of their support

Reliable Samba just stopped mounting Windows machine
I have been mounting a Windows machine with no problems whatsoever for the year. Suddenly this afternoon it won't mount any more. No recent changes have been made on the machine. The only thing I've done recently is load and get Thunderbird working. Most things are done as user not root in KDE xterms. My Linux machine is Slackware Linux 10.0. There is an iptables firewall that

error starting SJava: classpath
Dear R experts, Sorry, I am resending this, since I have not received this mail myself for the past 5 hours. I saw a similar question dated July 2. But there is no answer to it. Does anybody have a solution to it? I am using window NT, and the R version is 1.5.1, the SJava package is the binary version SJavaWin_0.62-8.zip. Here are the error message: > library(SJava) > .JavaInit()

Cannot delete folder
To be honest, I can't follow you. I see that I have inconsistent permissions (but all the same owner and group). I did use a different mail server software in the past, but that's long ago and I can't even remember when I switched to Dovecot. I think it was Courier-IMAP before. Maildirs for new mailboxes are still created by one of my own scripts so maybe that script creates the

Could this be a rights issue?
I'm pretty new to Samba, so I appologise if this is a really dumb question, but I can't find a way through it. I have created a samba share on my Linux box for the users home directory, and can map a drive to the share from W2K clients and see/open all the files, the problems arise when I try and edit or create files, from the W2k client. If I attempt to create a file through windows

Resend of returned email: [3.6.6] Possible to allow password-free read/write access?
Why is someone not setting up an email server conform RFC's and seems to be you have an ipv6.. so set the ptr record. Hai Linda, I do have ipv4 and ipv6 on my server, and im never blocked.. but i did setup conform all rfcs.. i block servers in the same way. so yes, i did set my reverse for ipv4 and ipv6.. what most people do wrong.. 1) the hostname must have A and RR (PTR) and MX
