hebrew characters
I'm trying to use rsync (version 2.6.9) to back up some files. However, a few of them contain Hebrew characters. While I can back them up, the filenames come through scrambled (I don't have Hebrew characters anymore). I've tried the -8 switch, but that didn't work. Any suggestions? Background: The files are created on Windows and saved on a samba share (v3.0.24). I can copy

Samba 3.0.24 ported to OS/2 - a couple of problems
Hi all, I've recently managed to compile Samba v3.0.24 for OS/2 and have debugged most of the issues. The positive is that relatively few source changes were required to get the daemon working, however, having said that, there are two problems that I'm still having trouble with. 1) smbpasswd is generating a broken password - so password protected clients can't connect. eg.

Setting up Print$ share
The environment is FC5, Samba V3.0.24-4. I'm trying to set up the print$ share. From an XP SP2 client I navigate to the "Printers and Faxes" folder showing from the Samba server. Following the directions from the howto, I right click on one of the printers etc etc. The driver does upload to the share, I can see it there on the server, but when the APW wizard closes and returns

the worst scenario of ext3 after abnormal powerdown
Hi, I have seen and heard many cases of ext3 corrupted after abnormal powerdown (e.g. missing all the files in one directory). yes, UPS should help, but wonder what kind of worst scenario will ext3 present after powerdown. messed up meta data has been seen in many cases, for example, the in-direct block of one inode contains garbage, which causes the automatic fsck failed to work and user has

looking for a pam_smbpass user to answer passwd sync issues
I need to let my users change their password using PAM to preserve the existing ldap authentication system. How can I force pam to sync the smb password to the unix one. I am running Fedora 7 package on an x86-64 system. I have smb working via ldap and sambasam.schema (v3.0.24) I have unix password sync = yes but it should not come into play as I never plan to reset passwords via smbd. In

force group to Unix group in 3.0.25
Hi, I'm currently using v3.0.24 in production and all works well. I'm testing 3.0.25 to see if I'm going to have any problems with it if I have to upgrade. I have a problem with the "force group" setting if it is set to a local Unix group. This same setting works fine in 3.0.24 but I'm denied access to the same share in 3.0.25. If I comment off the "force

Problem starting Asterisk after abnormal shutdown
I've seen this happen a few times and I think it's when the system that Asterisk is running on crashes due to a power failure (or for some other reason that causes a non-planned shutdown). While Linux comes up fine, Asterisk won't start because the drivers are loading in the wrong order. fixed by: 1) sh /usr/src/fix-asterisk-modules.sh 2) sh /etc/init.d/asterisk start Is this a

optim: abnormal termination in lnsrch (resend)
[sorry, forgot some details...] I'm using optim(param, fun, method='L-BFGS-B', lower=lo, upper=up) to minimize a certain function. Often the minimization ends with the message: ERROR: ABNORMAL_TERMINATION_IN_LNSRCH What is optim() trying to say? What have I to change in my function to make the minimization succeed? Do you think using BBoptim() instead of optim() changes anything?

abnormal freezes
Hi, I'm having a linux box running with Centos 5.3 x86 (kernel 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5xen) which is freezing time to time and can't login neither trough console. The only thing what I can do, to pass the situation is to power off/on the pc. The pc is used only as a torrent server running with transmission 1.74. There are days when 400GB data traffic goes through the pc, and there
