Can't find users from WinXP with Samba+ADS+ACL environment
Hi all: I'm running Samba 3.3.7 as a member of an ADS domain. I configured ACLs that are working almost fine (I'll ask about this later), and I'm trying to delegate administration like this: 1. I'm using "acl group control = yes" and changing the primary group owner of a directory to let users member of that group change ACLs settings. 2. From a Windows XP machine I

Unable to browse share from WinXP
Morning all, I have a Samba share defined on a Sco Openserver 6 machine. The share is read-only and uses the guest account to read the files on the unix server. We intend to use this share to backup some data held on the machine. From my Windows 2000 SP4 workstation I can browse to the machine on the network, see the share, navigate into the share and the numerous subfolders of the server.

WinXP - Samba 3.0.0 performance frustration
Hi folks A few weeks of tinkering have gotten me nowhere, I think I must be barking up the wrong tree or just plain barking mad. Moving files between a Windows XP laptop and a Debian Sid (samba 3.0.0-debian) machine over a switched 100MB network is extremely slow, of the order of 3k per second. I have tried the socket options recommended and various combinations and permutations of those,

unable to browse samba server with Win98, but it works with WinXP
Hello, I have samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6 bundled with CentOS 4.3 x86_64 and I can't browse it with Win98. I have a very simple setup, Share type, with access to everyone. If I double-click on the server name from Win98, I have this message: "\\server is not accessible. This device does not exist on the network." If I type the whole path to the share(ex: \\server\transfer), in Win98, it

WinXP client can't browse list for the domain it joined
Hi, I just configured a RH9 with Samba 3.0.2a as the PDC for XP clients network. The XP clients can join the domain. When I trying to browse the "Microsoft Windows Network" on the client XP machines, I can see all the old Workgroups and the list of XP machines in those workgroups, and I can see the new domain (ZEUS1) I just created with the PDC's name, which is "hermes",

Can't access files at WinXP boot time
I have a couple of WinXP/SP2 machines that access Samba (v2.2.12, on a Red Hat v9 box) shares. The files on those shares are not immediately available at WinXP boot time, despite "Reconnect at login" being in effect for all network drives. The shares are actually working. If I look at them with Windows Explorer all the files are seen. I was advised in the WinXP newsgroups to set

Slow browsing/reading from WinXP SP2
Hi, I have a Samba 3.0.9 server on Linux 2.6.9 (Fedora Core 3) that serves WinMe and WinXP SP2 clients wonderfully. I have recently bought a new laptop however that is not playing nicely. Samba for this laptop is responding *very* slowly when browsing or reading files on either the 'samba' or 'jimhome' shares. The new laptop has Win XP SP2 pre-installed. I have its Windows

Update: Slow browsing/reading from WinXP SP2
I stumbled onto another tidbit that may shed some more light. From the new laptop, I tried to create a new folder on the 'samba' share. It fails with the following error message: "Unable to create the folder 'New Folder'. Access is denied" It obviously looks like a permissions issue, but what? I did not have to make any changes to my other laptop (upgraded from XP

Mounting encrypted WinXP shares with smbmount
I've been having problems mounting WinXP shares with Samba 2.2.7a & 2.2.8. I attribute this to WinXP using encrypted passwords, but I've set my smb.conf file with "encrypt passwords = yes" and despite a lot of searching, can't find any other option or flag that might help. Any suggestions? Thanks.

WinXP/2k can't connect to Linux ADS member
Hi, I have a linux box configured with samba-3.0.1pre1-1 joined to my Win2k ADS domain. I can succesfully use kinit and smbclient -k without entering a user/pass to connect to things on my network. Winbind, getent, wbinfo, ... everything works great however, from WinXP and Win2k client hosts I cannot connect to my linux shares. From Win95/98 clients works great. Always that I connect from

WinXP can't mount share from Samba 2.2.2 on RH linux
I am unable to mount a share using WinXP from samba 2.2.2 on RH linux. The same share works correctly with Win95 clients. WinXP reports this error: The mapped network drive could not be created because of the following error: The account is not authorized to login from this station. I looked through various archives and applied the registry patch for requiresignorseal=0 in this

WinXP Roaming Profiles - Samba 3.0b1 Problem
Hello, My company has decided to upgrade everyone from win98 to winXP. So, I've begun the process of setting up a test network to test samba with winXP before the XP rollout begins. I downloaded samba-3.0b1 a couple weeks ago, compiled it, and started configuring it. For the most part everything has been a breeze. I have a winXP SP1a machine on the test network that currently sees

WinXP can't open print queue listing
URL: http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread.cfm/lev2/3/lev3/19/pid/865/qid/336795 I have the same problem described in the above posting: using WinXP (he used Win2K, presumably WinNT does the same thing), you print something, but the print queue display shows an error message and doesn't show your job(s). The described solution worked for me too: add to /etc/samba/smb.conf [global] disable

VMWare; WinXP guest can browse every machine except host Debian, and vice versa
The setup: My VMWare host is Debian 2.4.24, and runs Samba 3.0.2a-Debian, on fixed IP address 10.0.0.9. Other computers can see and use services on this server. Samba is browse master and domain master browser for the workgroup. An external host runs dnscache and a tinydns for the local domain. VMWare is 3.2.0 build-2230, configured with bridged networking only (though I previously tried both

Samba 2.2.12 winXP can't see system under mynetwork
Hi, File server - samba 2.2.12 serving win95 and winXP systems. Win95 systems see network appropriately. WinXP systems can see the files when I do run > \\servername\filefolder\ but NOT when I go into my network places... What do I need to do to fix this? notes - a) changing the samba config files at times knocks out the win95 clients.. (config file below) b) winXP pro systems -

SOLVED: Re: Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible to restore WinXP?
Some thoughts, for anyone faced with this type of problem on a dual boot box in the future: My first thought was to try to Rescue the WinXP Spanish language installation that came on the Dell Dimension 2400, out of the Dell factory. Later, I decided to wipe the entire drive, since I now have a WinXP English language Restore CD and I wanted to redo CentOS5, so I would have room to experiment with

winxp home login to samba shares
Hello I would like to move Samba shares from my debian onto an uhu (hungarian linux distro) The base things are ok, but there is a little problem when I try to reach shares from my winxp home. As the networking is missing from home version (no domain logon, etc, as it exists in pro version) samba should ask user:pass for each time (after rebooting or disconnecting). My debian works like that,
