Winbindd startup kerberos fail
I'm trying to learn about the interactions between SAMBA and Win2k DCs.??The eventual goal is to have a Win2k server with ADS working with a FreeBSD SAMBA server.??I've?used?the?setup?from http://oslabs.mikro-net.com/fbsd_samba.html and many other articles as the basis for what I've done so far. Winbind seems to work and I can show users and gropus using wbinfo although I see some

Winbind error "Could not fetch our SID - did we join?"
We did, in fact, join mere seconds ago, but for some reason, winbind still can't find itself. ADUC etc meanwhile have no trouble finding the newly added computer account. Wiping /var/{lib,cache}/samba/ (and the computer account) makes no difference, the error persists. How do I proceed? -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen, / Best Regards, Sven Schwedas, Systemadministrator Mail/XMPP sven.schwedas

FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba list in hopes someone can help me out at this point. Can anyone help me out here? ~Doug -----Original Message----- Sent: Friday, September 16, 2005 12:48 PM To: 'Dan

createlocalgroup: could not allocate a RID
Hello everybody. I have configured a linux box with samba 3.0.25b It's joined to a windows nt4 domain. It's running winbindd. Now I would like to create a local group with 'net sam createlocalgroup group_name' and adding members from the windows nt4 domain. I need this local group so I can assign permission to file/directories. This is my smb.conf: [global] workgroup =

samba 3.6.4 smbd dies on solaris 10 sparc64
Hi list, Disclaimer: not a subscriber, not a samba expert, just trying to get samba running on a Solaris 10 system. We build samba 3.6.4 from source for various platforms. We link against our own builds of cyrus-sasl 2.1.23, openldap 2.4.23, and openssl 1.0.0h. On Solaris we also compile against krb5-1.10.1. Builds are done with GNU tools whenever possible (gcc/ld/make). The build host, as well

winbindd 3.0.10 stops functioning
I've recently upgraded from a 3.0.4 (or 3.0.6, I don't remember) to Samba 3.0.10 on a FreeBSD 5.2.1 system and now I'm having problems with winbind. It seems to run fine for a while, but then it hangs and starts taking a lot of CPU time (80-90% while idling), eventually it dumps core. I commented out the 'client use spnego' line because that caused winbindd to hang

Samba will not start
Hi, Right after I run "vampire" (net rpc vampire -S gia42c-1 -U Administrator) command, samba would no longer start. The samba server was installed on Gentoo linux and running behind a firewall. The PDC which is Windows NT 4 server is on different subnet with no firewall. Please check the log and smb.conf below and see if there's anything I can do to make "samba"

3.0.0, winbind issues
I just upgraded our system here to 3.0.0 from RC4 last night. As usual I built an RPM from the source RPM after adding --with-acl-support to the specfile. I found that unlike previous RCs, RPM would not upgrade to 3.0.0 using -Fvh. In the end I removed RC4 and then installed 3.0.0 in the normal way (backing up and restoring /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba). However, the real issue is that

samba 3.0.0 Authentication with NTsp4
We have been running Samba 2.2.x for some time without problems. Servers are Solaris 2.7 and RH Linux. Clients are a mix of WinNTsp4 and Win2K. Server setting is for plaintext (un-encryted passwords). On upgrading the Samba server to 3.0.0, (smb.conf file unchanged): All WinNt clients fail to authenticare. Win2k clients authenticate correctly. On reverting back to Samba 2.2.x, all cleints

Was just reinstalling suse 9.1 on top of an existing 9.1 (with samba) (it solved another issue with the monitor but created a samba problem) applied all patches reinstallation remembered all settings correctly, even the smb.conf file, but smbd does not start anymore. , I get a

crypt password authenticate method (passdb or pam)?
Hi, I'm trying to put my samba to authenticate users into a mysql database. I've started to use passdb and I did mapped the main fields and also did some change at pdb_sql.c code to match my needs. Well, the problem is that I can't found a way to use crypt passwords with mysql using pdb_mysql, actually the type of passwords I'm allowed to use are "plain password",

winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users". On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group. Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo -g and getent group. When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo -g, I got the results

samba nad ldap
Hi everyone! I have (i think) a fully functional tls enabled samba ldap server. I used the documenation on www.idealx.org. I can make users and computers with smbldap-tools but i can't add Windows computers to the domain in the client end. smbldap-useradd -w w-eddie ldapsearch -x generates among other things: # w-eddie$, Computers, dbb.su.se dn:

Winbind trouble when on the DC
I have a situation where I want to do some authentication via ntlm_auth on my DC. I've tested this on my test box (a domain member) and it works perfectly. On domain member - tor:~ # /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --username=adam --domain=BACKBONE --password=******** NT_STATUS_OK: Success (0x0) On domain controller - littleboy:~ # /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --username=adam --domain=BACKBONE

3.0.22 on solaris9 does not start as daemon
I'm trying to start smbd (samba 3.0.22) as daemon (smbd -D --configfile=/etc/smb.conf) on solaris 9 sparc with current recommended patches but the smbd process never returns from trying to become a daemon. Samba was built with ldap, (heimdal) kerberos and active directory support using gcc 3.3.2 from sunfreeware. Solaris 9 is a new install on a development machine with production patches.

Samba 3.0.21b winbind crash
I'm using Samba 3.0.21b on SuSE 9.3 Pro (x86) with the binary RPMs from samba.org/suse.com (3.0.21b-1.1.2-SUSE-SL9.3) on a Domain Member Server in ADS mode with winbind against W2K3 SP1 AD servers and idmap uids/gids stored in a central OpenLDAP directory. Unfortunately, winbind gives me a hard time and reproducibly dies with a PANIC on a "wbinfo -g", although I think I've
