Possible problem w/ 'idmap restore' under 3.0.25rc3
Folks, Maybe it's me, or my systems, but I've found that idmap restore simply doesn't work under samba-3.0.25rc3. When I try to import the idmap.dump file I create from one of my older systems into a fresh 3.0.25rc3 installation, I get a huge stream of errors along the line of "could not set mapping of (UID|GID) to sid xxxxx". This happened whether I was using

raid6: rmw writes all the time?
Hi all, we got a new test system here and I just also tested btrfs raid6 on that. Write performance is slightly lower than hw-raid (LSI megasas) and md-raid6, but it probably would be much better than any of these two, if it wouldn''t read all the during the writes. Is this a known issue? This is with linux-3.9.2. Thanks, Bernd -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line

User/Group HWM ignored when converting idmap from tdb to LDAP
Hi! I'm trying to convert my tdb-based idmap mapping to a LDAP-based one. This generally works as intended, with one exception - the highest uidNumber/gidNumber in use is not transferred, and this causes duplicate use of the same uid/gidNumber. Here's what I'm doing: 1) net idmap dump /var/cache/samba/winbindd_idmap.tdb > idmap.dump 2) Set idmap backend in smb.conf to

could not read attribute 'msSFU30UidNumber'
Hi, I'm using samba 3.0.23c, and having a bit of trouble getting it to play nice with my active directory. I'm using Windows Small Business Server 2003 with the SFU 3.5 NIS server/schema extensions installed. I have samba configured to use ad as the idmap backend, and sfu for nss info. When running getent passwd, only a few active directory users show up, and I get lots of errors

winbindd running amok
Hi, on a customer system samba/winbindd is used for windows and unix authentication. I just tuned searches of the ldap backend to speedup by factor 20-200 and slapd now doesn't seem to be the bottleneck anymore. Don't know how well the windows authentication now works, since this is presently done by the heartbeat failover server. However, simply starting 'mc' as root makes

TDB functionality document
Hi, Does someone know a document which explains the TDB structure. functionalites, and format of the TDB files etc. I need to understand why some of the TDBs like messages.tdb, unexpected.tdb, brlock if not read_only, locking.tdb, session.tdb, wins.tdb are called with TDB_CLEAR_IF_FIRST tdb flags. Why some TDBs are opend with O_RDWR|O_CREAT flags viz. gencache.tdb, group_mapping.tdb,

A lot of questions
Dear fellow wine users, I have some questions. 1) First of all I would like to know if there is a message archive for the older messages and where can I find it. 2) Another question is about wine and xserver stability. Every time when I run MSWORD97 on the latest wine or on the codeweavers wine-1.0-preview3 and I load a Document with more than one page and I scroll trough the document my

Samba on Debian with shares on nfs-filesystem
Hello, Actually I have some troubels concerning samba (3.0.24) on debian (4.0): I would like to have some samba-shares on a nfs-filesystem. NFS works fine for the Linux clients and the Linux server. The nfs filesystem is mounted from an other server on /home. The next step is to set up samba to have some shares on the nfs Filesystem (/home/$LOGIN, anonymized configuration attached).

Modify and backup winbindd_idmap.tdb
Hello list, Is there a possibility to add entries to the winbindd_idmap.tdb manually? I know I can use tdbdump to see the entries, but is there a chance to modify? My problem is I have to map some uid to some Windows SID without using LDAP. On the other hand new user not having any uid in linux should map to the range of uid I defind by using idmap uid = 10000-20000 2nd Question: Is it

idmap_ad Integration with Windows 2003 pre-R2
Is then new idmap_ad module capable of getting uid/gid info from a Windows 2003 AD pre-R2 with RFC2307 Unix Identity Mapping Extensions applied? Also, is the correct syntax for specifying the schema_mode as follows: idmap config dom.example.com:schema_mode = rfc2307 (I am not confident that I am reading the idmap_ad manpage and the new idmap document correctly.) Thanks for the help, Murthy

Q: winbindd, unqualfied users, & name conflicts (a.k.a "Death to 'winbind use default domain'!")

Now assume I have a local user named foo in my passdb and a user named foo in the domain as well. machine account want use algorithm than sambanextrid
Was questioned before with no answer, but have the same problem: With Samba 3.0.25 with ldap backend, what can i do for using algorithm "rid = 2*uid + 1000", when samba create samba attributes (sambasid) of computer account, instead of SambaNextRid from SambaDomainName entry ? Background: I create a machine account with smbldap-tools. After that a uidNumber was given to the machine.

Does 3.0 work with w2k sp3 and/or win 2003? Anybody had success?
I can't make it work although both sign&seal and restrictanonymous are set to 0. My setup is: w2k sp2 as PDC, w2k sp3 as client, samba 3.0a21 joined into the PDC domain as an ADS member. The scenario is, from the w2k sp3 client, connect to a share hosted by samba, create a file, then use property->security->add tab to add an ACE, then the browsing user/group windows appears

create smbpasswd/tdbsam from ldapsam/LDAP query?
As some of you may know, I'm trying to set up Samba BDC on a disk- and fan-less tiny mipsel_CPU router running OpenWRT distribution. I already managed to compile Samba 3.0.21a and OpenLDAP 2.3.18 for it, and they seem to work fine. The problem is, this tiny distribution for routers doesn't seem to have anything like Name Service Switch (NSS), and relies solely on /etc/passwd and

Lots of "write_data: write failure in writing to client" and "Error writing 4 bytes to client. -1"
Last week we installed Samba 3.0.20b on one of our servers, worked fine and does it's job well. But today the load was rising due two smbd processes taking up all cputime. While looking for hints on what was going on the logfiles show two types of errors (I don't know at this time if it has anything to do with the load spike): lib/util_sock.c:write_data(554) write_data: write failure in

User can't access a share that he has full control of
Hi all, I have noticed that if you create a share to path lets say \\dir1\dir2\dir3 And a user lets say u1 has full control on dir3 BUT no control at all on dir2 then user u1 cannot access the share. Is it right? We have a situation with clients who typically do the following: Create a share to the root of the file system and give only to administrator full control on for the root path
