cannot logon domain after upgrade 3.0.20 to 3.0.28
I have a working copy of Samba 3.0.20 (installed under /usr/samba) configured as a PDC.
Recently I install Samba 3.0.28 under /usr/newsamba, and copy the files lib/smb.conf (with path modifications), private/*, var/locks/* to the new locations.
Following the HOWTO, the groups "Domain Admins", "Domain Users", and "Domain Guests" (with RID's 512, 513, 514 resp.) are

Machine account being rejected
I have been running Samba at home as a fileserver for a long time and I
have now been changing it to a PDC (later I want to try switching it to
an AD server as a learning experience prior to doing the same on a
server in work, which is already a PDC).I have got it to the point that
it logs onto the user account but not the machine account.
The local machine is called asus, the user account

this will be a lengthy post. I?ve been beating my head on my desk for days now.
I
have a Samba PDC in an NT4 domain. I have several domain member servers and a
non domain member server.
Versions really don?t matter but for the sake of argument the
systems that are ?working? are all CENTOS 4.7 systems using 3.0.28 Samba.
My procedure is this: I mount a Domain member share on the

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to upgrade (migrate) from one linux distro (hostname blah) to
another (hostname foobar) using the same server layout, domain and
netbios name and smbpasswd password file. This is a PDC for a windows
domain DOMAIN. The IP has remained the same as the hardware is being
upgraded though I'm changing the hostname and linux distro.
I have copied over the user accounts

Machine Login
Hi all,
In my system, samba (3.0.34) is configured as PDC with an LDAP backend and
has some user and machine accounts, and it all works fine. But recently I've
found out that if I remove one machine account from the LDAP server user
logins into the domain from that machine are still possible, even if the
machine login verification fails:

Seamless update from Samba 2 to Samba 3 on a new server
Hi,
I'm new to the list, I hope i'm posting at the right place ;)
I'm having a hard time trying to update and to move my Samba 2.2 PDC to a
new Debian server.
Currently, the PDC is using Samba 2.2.8 on a Solaris Server. My goal is to
move it to another computer, and to update it to a
newer version (3.0.24)
This must be fully transparent for the users, since I have no time to

user can't logon to specific computer: creds_server_check failed
A few computers -- two or three -- are very spotty about letting
people log on. It seems -- and this could be off-base -- that they'll
let anyone log on once, but will require a reboot before you can log
on again. Sometimes, logging on works fine, though. There really
appears to be little rhyme or reason to what happens.
In the Samba logs, I'm getting:

Problems with windows 7 logon
Hi,
I'm trying to put a Windows 7 on my samba domain. I compiled samba 3.5.4 in server that is the PDC. It is an HP-UX 11.11 and earlier used the samba distributed by HP. After the changes made to the registry of Windows 7 as the samba wiki site, I can put the machine in domain. At the time of logging an error message appears

Windows XP suddenly can't login to PDC
Hi,
I've got a Samba 3.0.2a PDC running for some time now (like more than a
year) with MS Windows XP clients. But suddenly on January 23 2006 none
of the clients where able to login anymore. The error on the client was
(translated from dutch):
Unable to connect to domain server.
The logfile on the samba side showed:

NT4 PDC -> Samba/LDAP PDC failing to work
Hi all:
I am trying to migrate my NT4 domain to a samba server which uses an
LDAP server on the backend for authentication
This machine that I want to be the new PDC is running RHEL5 with samba
3.0.23c and an openldap 2.3.27 running on the same machine.
I used the by-example page
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html
as my guide
I set this up in a test environment

Buffalo Terastation with 3.0.23d PDC and LDAP backend?
I have my system properly running as a PDC now, but I'm having trouble
getting one of the machines here to join the domain.
This system is a Buffalo Terastation Pro. For this system I have to
create the machine trust account manually. The domain access fails as
follows:

Authentication problems after upgrading to 3.0.23c
Hi there,
Since upgrading our debian sarge boxes to 3.0.23c, we have found that we
are unable to connect to shares using the official hostname of the
servers (short or fully qualified) but can still use its netbios aliases
(again, short or fully qualified). As nothing else has changed in our
configuration, I think that the change of behaviour is down to the newer
release and can find nothing in

Issue with SambaNTPassword not replicating
Hi,
I set up a Samba PDC/BDC configuration some time ago using LDAP as
configured here - http://www.atlanticlinux.ie/blog/?p=25
The configuration has been working without problems for a few months now
but we have noticed one issue. When users take their laptop from the
network the PDC is serving to the networking the BDC is serving - they
sometimes have problems logging in.

Samba client -> PDC authentication fails on last step
Hi All,
I am having a rather unusual problem. I have a PC running Samba as a PDC for
my network. Right now, all of my XP client PC's can login just fine and
there are no problems at all.
However, recently I purchased a third-party (well known) NAS box that claims
to be able to use NT (I am using NT)/ADS domain users/groups for granting
access to shares on the NAS.
When I join the NAS to

Hosts leaving domain without reasons...
Hello all,
I've got Samba 3.0.24-6etch4 (Debian revision) running on a production server
which acts as a PDC for a network of some Windows XP clients (around 250).
Since sometime (I am not able to determine exactly when) I get a strange
problem arising : some clients are banned from my domain. The only solution I
found is to reintroduced the clients into the domain. Once hosts have rejoined

Checking the trust account password returned NT_STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE
I'm trying to setup a FreeRADIUS (version 1.1.6 w/ LDAP support)
server on our new server here at home, which in turn should
authenticate against the Samba server (also on the same host - version
3.0.25) which in turn uses an OpenLDAP server (CVS version HEAD as of
20070719).
Samba works perfectly against the OL server. Authentication
etc is a-ok.
But regarding winbind, the first problem is
