A device attached to the system is not functioning (smbd -V 3.5.x)
Howdy, I'm having one last problem with my Samba PDC with an ldap backend. When I add a machine to the domain I get the error, on my Win7 test client, that says: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "office": A device attached to the system is not functioning. Here are some particulars: # smbd -V Version 3.5.6 (configured sernet repo to install latest

PDC + LDAP group mappings
Alright now that samba can talk to LDAP I have a blank slate. I know I need to setup group mappings, but I'm a little confused about this. Since it's an ldap backend do the groups need to have unix counterparts? Should I use the net groupmap command to add the mappings or should I use an LDIF file? Samba3.5 + OpenLDAP config/install problem
System Summary: centos 6.2 samba 3.5 smbldap-tools 0.9.6 openldap 2.4.23 Hello, I am installing smb 3.5 on a CentOS 6.2 host using smbldap-tools. I've previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4 using smb 3.0 but CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the configurations cannot be moved straight across. Currently, when I attempt to connect to an smb share

Migrated PDC to new server
I just migrated my SMB pdc to a new server (was running 3.0.21c, now 3.0.22). Some things seems to be ok. net rpc list; net rpc testjoin seem to work. But if I attempt to join a windows system to the domain I get "The following error occured while attempting to join to domain "DOMAINNAME": The user name could not be found". The machine name is getting loaded into ldap.

Failed join a domain, root found ok, Administrator not found
I'm trying to join a Windows PC to a domain. I've got a root user set-up to add machines to the domain. When prompted by windows, I enter in root and the password. But I get a windows error dialog, indicating a user was not found. However, in the samba log file for the machine I'm trying to connect to the domain, I can see that the root user was found in ldap, however, for some

Intermittent failure
Hello. I'm in need of some help to shed some light on a strange problem. The box is running Samba 4.1.7 on FreeBSD 9.2/amd64 and I suspect (though I'm not sure) all troubles started after the upgrade from 4.1.6. The setup is quite simple: no AD, no LDAP, only one server. A command as simple as "smbclient -U user //SERVER/SHARE", if fired up several times in a row on the

Alight, I've been working on this for too many hours straight. Any help would be much appreciated! (I posted this online to linux questions, it could be easier to read on there... http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-server-73/samba-and-openldap-authentication-issues-637647/) The problem is users created in smbldap-useradd can not login, unless they also are a local user. for

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
I recently migrated our samba PDC to an LDAP backend on a test machine. Testing my account policies, I found out that the password lockout did not work. When authentication fail, samba seems to call init_ldap_from_sam asking to update the bad password count. When I set the lockout threshold to 1, the account is locked after a failed attempt and the badPasswordCount attribute is updated correctly

Samba LDAP troubleshooting
Hello I'm hoping someone can provide some insight, sample snippet from smb.conf and the samba log. Password authentication is working & succeeding, complains about an invalid SID which I know is the trust relationship that is formed between server and client, this is a duplicate ldap database from a samba domain controller. On the topic, anyone have a good book to recommend on Samba, I
