domain trusts in samba3 with openLDAP
Greetings Sambistas!
I can't seem to get domain trusts to work in both directions. Details follow.
I have a network running many OSes on four geographically separate
sites with an OpenLDAP authentication backbone. Desktops are windows
XP authenticating to samba 3.0.25b servers which in turn are
configured to use LDAP. Our net has been running samba in various
flavors and versions for

Showstopper problem: Winbindd no longer starting
Hi,
I'm running a samba CTDB setup using default Centos 7.2 repos, fully
up-to-date. This is in pre-production so this is quite a nasty problem.
Everything was running fine, including after a package update 1-2 days
ago. However, this morning I can't get winbind started, CTDB times it
out. I've taken the clustering=yes line out of smb.conf, and run winbind
at dedug level from the

multiple domain info entries problem
Hi fellows. I'm new to the list and hope I'll have a nice time here.
one of my servers running samba+ldap is not working properly.
the setup is:
Debian 5
fileserver:/etc/samba#smbd --version
Version 3.0.24
fileserver:/etc/samba# slapd -V
@(#) $OpenLDAP: slapd 2.3.30 (Oct 5 2008 22:08:58) $

Look for users in both LDAP and /etc/passwd
Im running CentOS 5 with samba configured as PDC, with samba 3.0.24 and
openldap-servers-2.3.30-2.
My /etc/nsswitch.conf is like this:
passwd: files ldap
shadow: files ldap
group: files ldap
The problem is when I try to restart LDAP (/etc/init.d/ldap restart) then
the init script just hangs. I suppose it will try to run slapd as the ldap
user
The ldap user is not in LDAP only in

sambaPwdMustChange not synced on PDC from BDC
Hi
I have a PDC/BDC samba/ldap environment.
PDC:
samba 3.0.24
slapd 2.3.30
BDC:
samba 3.2.5
slapd 2.4.11
Ldap replication is working fine, but I have noticed two issues
1- when a windows user change password on BDC, sambaPwdMustChange and
sambaPwdCanChange is not synced on PDC
(using ldap passwd sync = yes and unix password sync = no)
2- when using 'net sam set pwdmustchange' on

Samba-PDC+LDAP Domain logon problem
Hello!
I have Samba with LDAP password backend.
-Logging to shell works with ldap accounts
-Logging to smb-share works with ldap accounts
-Adding computers to domain with (shown in conf. file) and without (manually)
works
But here's my problem:
-Logging to domain with username & passwd doesn't work
When using smbpasswd -file as backend it works
After 3 days of googling I'm

Samba PDC, OpenLDAP, and passwd chat
Hey List,
I'm using Samba 3.0.24 and OpenLDAP 2.3.30 (with the ppolicy and
smbk5pwd overlays).
While testing Samba as a PDC with an OpenLDAP backend, I've hit a snag
on password change. I currently have the following in my smb.conf
related to password changes:
passwd program = /usr/bin/ldappasswd -x -W -S -D
uid=%u,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com
passwd chat = "*Enter

getent not returning users or groups, 3.0.25rc3
Hello,
I am not seeing any users or groups returned when I issue a 'getent
passwd' or 'getent group' command with samba 3.0.25rc3. This worked when
using v3.0.24 on both Gentoo and Debian 4.0. I am using the same config
as before with the exception of the 'vfs objects = readahead' option for
windows vista.
Here is my samba config:

problems with winbind, ads on 3.0.25rc3
I am having a problem getting active directory domain users to
authenticate on my gentoo and debian systems with v3.0.25rc3 when it
worked perfectly with v3.0.24. I am wondering if it is something in my
configure options.
Wbinfo returns users, groups and the rpc call test succeeds. The getent
command only shows the local users.
I have double checked my nsswitch.conf as well to make sure that

samba-3.0.25rc3
I have compiled samba manually on Gentoo linux using the
"-with-dnsupdates" flag yet when I type "net ads dns"
It tells me that dns update support is not enabled at compile time.
Did I misspell the flag?

attempted upgrade this weekend
Morning,
This weekend I attempted an upgrade of my primary samba server from 3.0.24
to 3.3.3. When testing this primary server after the upgrade I had a
few issues, so rolled back the upgrade until I can find solutions. This
server also has the OpenLDAP server local to and co-located with samba.
The two things that initially didn't seem right are that each time I
logged into a windows XP box

Possible problem w/ 'idmap restore' under 3.0.25rc3
Folks,
Maybe it's me, or my systems, but I've found that idmap restore
simply doesn't work under samba-3.0.25rc3.
When I try to import the idmap.dump file I create from one of my
older systems into a fresh 3.0.25rc3 installation, I get a huge
stream of errors along the line of "could not set mapping of
(UID|GID) to sid xxxxx". This happened whether I was using

Problem with Samba-3.0.25rc3 & idmap_ldap (winbind dumps core)
In an effort to improve my lot, I'm trying to move to a ldap backend
for idmap synchronization when I deploy the new 3.0.25 version on my
systems. In preparation for this, I've set up some test systems --
where I'm having some problems that I think others may be
encountering (according to a few comments I've seen recently).
In a nutshell, I believe I have set up my ldap

net user info result depends on protocol and is not syncing with ldap
Hello,
I have a samba pdc running with openldap as backend. I have ou's for
user and groups and used smbldap-populate to create the ldap entries. I
can add windows clients and authenticate but i have a problem with the
net tool (lvk is an samba user too):
net -U Administrator rpc user info lvk
