Logging in taking too long with roaming profile (not large profile issue)
Thus spake Nathan Ehresman (nehresma@css.tayloru.edu) [29/07/03 08:50]: > check out http://www.css.tayloru.edu/~nehresma/samba.html Check out the logs -- this is a completely different problem. Ed and I have been working on this for some time now, and while your solution wards off potential future problems, it doesn't fix the current problem. We're not having the typical 'My

Roaming profiles and case sensitivity
Hi, Yesterday I found big problems concerning my roaming profiles. They seem to work on some computers where they are always used, on some other the did not load properly (i.e. a default profile was loaded instead). After some debugging with userenv.log I found the very strange problem: case sensitivity for ntuser.dat!: [...] IsCentralProfileReachable: Testing <F:\testuser\ntuser.dat>

mandatory profiles, group policies, Samba3 PDC winxp Clients
Hello all, I've been trying to figure out what the best way of doing the group policy thing is. We are running samba 3 on slackware 9 with winxp clients. We are a school. i'm unclear on how much AD is actually supported... OU GPO all that. so i decided to go the "administrative template" way (used to be .pol files) I'm thinking of having the students run off of a

Can't do roaming profiles
I need a little advice on finishing off a Samba PDC. I have Samba 3.0.0RC1 installed and working as a PDC on a Redhat AS 3.0 machine. It authenticates users nicely but the "roaming" profiles don't work. Tailing the samba log, I see the an attempt to access the users ntuser.dat file, which doesn't exist before the first logon, when logging in. The profile directory

Unable to load roaming profiles samba-4.3 FreeBSD
I am seeing these in smb.log and each time I do it appears that the user in question is unable to retrieve their roaming profile. Does anyone know what is going on and more importantly, how to cure it? . . . roaming profiles - one file can't be copied to server
Hi, i have a Ubuntu x64 10.04 Server. Samba configured as PDC. Since today i experience that roaming prfiles can't copy one file to the server and shout an error message. It's no specific file, mostly its one in my Thunderbird Profile. Does anybody know what could this cause to happen? My smb.conf: [global] printing = bsd netbios name = PDC server string = PDC (%h)

[Samba} Can't do roaming profiles (Solved)
Through much help from a guy in my local LUG I found the solution to making roaming profiles work on Win2000 (SP4). 1) You should have SP4 installed. 2) Two registry changes are needed: Use regedit and change the following two dword attributes to 0 "requiresignorseal" "signsecurechannel" 3) Run the group policy editor "gpedit.msc" and enable the

Roaming profiles errors and shares not disconnecting
Hi, We are using Samba 3.0.22 on FreeBSD 5.5 PDC with ldap backend and roaming profiles. We meet some difficulties when users logout from some Windows 2000 SP4 clients, and storing their profiles back to the Samba server. The file NTUSER.DAT seems to be uploaded and stored in lowercase, as ntuser.dat. Then, when users try to reopen a win session, they get a corrupted new profile. This new

Win2k Profile problem
ok, I have Samba 2.2.0alpha2 (on RedHat 6.2) up and running as a PDC, I can add Win2k machines to the domain and the machine accounts are automatically created. (finally!) Now, my problem is when a user logs off the machine for the first time, their profile is created, BUT(!) it only makes rwx permissions for SOME of the directories in the profile, this is what I mean: [root@samba profile]# ls -l

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
[samba v3.0.24, gentoo w/ kernel 2.6.15] I'm hoping someone has some insight into the following problem that I've recently encountered: Basically, winxp seems to be creating roaming profiles that are incompatible with another winxp client. I've got two sets of winxp clients, which I'll call 'new' and 'old'. Profiles created (and perfectly usable) by the old

Roaming Profile won't upload to workstation that didn't create it
Hi, I believe I've had a 'hidden' roaming profiles problem with Samba for a while (I have no idea when it first manifested itself - sometime between 3.0.2 and 3.0.21a). When I create a new user, their client workstation creates and updates the profile without any problems. Existing profiles used by existing client workstations are also fine. However, when I try to logon as an

Desktop.ini in Startmenue
Hello, I've setup a PDC with Samba 3.0.23 and a ldap-backend. Roaming Profiles are working, but I always have the desktop.ini visible in some folders of the Windows-Startmenue. I found several hints for the dos-attributes in smb.conf, buit notthing seems to work. Any hints? Here is my smb.conf: [global] workgroup = example server string = b-login passdb backend

FW: Roaming Profiles Load Very Slowly
Small suggestion. Get this http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/TreeSizeFree.zip Tree Size, go find out how big your profile on you pc is. then check the size on the profile folder of the user. these should be about the same. if not, Logon the server, cleanup the profile of the users. backup and remove the profile of the user on the server. logoff and logon again and check again. [4.3.11-Ubuntu] SMBD keeps Locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini after logout
After having migrated my machines and user to Samba 4.3.11 on Ubuntu 16.04.1 (no domain upgrade, new provision, all accounts new defined) and old data copied over to the new machines, I have now a broader testbed and notice issues I didn't see prior to that. Having roaming profiles (defined in the user object in LDB)... Seemingly at random smbd keeps locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini for a

conditional restart of service
I''m trying to have a exec dependency on a service object that would keep it from being restarted if the exec fails. Unfortunately, the service gets refreshed regardless whenever the exec is run, failure or not. I''ve tried various combinations of subscribe/require/notify, but can''t find an elegant way to not restart the service when the dependency fails. I must be

User can only login as admin, group policy fails the logon otherwise
I have a Samba 3.5 server that services seven Windows 7 computers. When the setup was originally installed, all workstations were independent systems and so all users had local administrative privilege. I have removed admin rights from all users but one. This user has a problem. We'll call the user 'dmc' though that isn't his real username. In any event, dmc is a member of the

Problem with `profiles`
I'm trying to move some roaming profiles from Domain A to B. All of the profiles are from XP SP3. The originating machine is Debian 5/AMD64, samba 3.4.5 from Debian packages. The destination machine is Ubuntu 9.10, but x86. From everything I've read and found online, `profiles` is supposed to work for XP with no problems. When I attempt to do a SID change on NTUSER.DAT, I get
