dnorm and qnorm
Hello all,
I have a question about basic statistics. Given a PDF value of 0.328161,
how can I find out the value of -0.625 in R? It is like reversing the dnorm
function but I do not know how to do it in R.
> pdf.xb <- dnorm(-0.625)
> pdf.xb
[1] 0.328161
> qnorm(pdf.xb)
[1] -0.444997
> pnorm(pdf.xb)
[1] 0.628605
Many thanks,
Edwin

IMQ
Hello
I have a server with a dsl connection on eth1 and local interface eth0.
Because of the NAT i cannot direct traffic to IMQ device in PREROUTING chain
but have to use INPUT and FORWARD. So i use rules.
iptables -t mangle -A INPUT -i eth1 -j IMQ --todev 0
iptables -t mangle -A FORWARD -i eth1 -j IMQ --todev 0
And now the strange thing: FORWARD traffic gets directed nicely to the IMQ,
but

Hello All,
I am trying to create a legend for a black-white graph. The package I
use is ggplot2. It can add colors to the legend key but not line types.
Can you please help?

OpenSSH and HP-UX
My system: HP-UX 10.20, pretty vanilla, most non-HP software from the HP
Porting Archive at hpux.cae.wisc.edu. GNU make is /usr/local/bin/gmake,
zlib is in /opt/zlib, OpenSSl in /opt/openssl, HP ANSI C compiler.
OpenSSH 2.2.1p4.
'configure' on this system warns that rsa is not available. I found
source at www.spinnaker.com which builds an rsaref.a library but not an
RSAglue one. So

Query regarding Xapian-Matcher Optimisation Project, GSOC-2016
Hello Sir/Ma?am
I beg to state that I was looking for a project In GSOC 2016 which matches
my skill and passion, and I came across Matcher Optimisation, Xapian. This
project has really captured my interest and I would love to contribute to
this project.
I am a computer engineering undergraduate so I am good at programming

ARGH... once again samba causes "permission" errors.
I've been doing unix sys. admin for nearly 20 years and yet EVERY single
time I have to setup samba I have configuration problems.
Before we start let's clear up some common misunderstandings: I have
googled for the answer. I have spent the last six hours doing so and trying
various "suggestions". Most of these suggestions point to solutions
involving chown or chmod. These are

Restricting to a subset of the domain controllers on a site
Had a situation where users could not map drives from Windows XP to
Solaris 9 system running Samba-3.0.10 for Active Directory. This
system has been running for a couple of years without problems. Now
recently, the site administrators have added some new servers to the
domain which may have introduced a problem.
This krb5.conf file has been modified to hide the site in question.

SAMBA 2.0.6 vs HP's ASU/9000 LanMan (battle rages on)
Found the solution to my 2.0.6 dying on me on SGI - SYSV_IPC needed to be #undef'ed in source/include/includes.h in favor of MMAP, seems to have fixed it.
If I run the daemon in server mode, no prob.
If I switch to domain mode (and use smbpasswd to join into the domain, per the instructions), I get the error indicating that the username/password pair was incorrect, as if I typed in a wrong

Samba4 quit working after update
It was my understanding that winbind wasn't necessary for Samba4. This
server has been running for months without it.
Sanatized smb.conf:

realm = DCS.LOCAL
netbios name = SERVER
server role = active directory domain controller
dns forwarder = 8.8.8.8

Samba4 quit working after update
Ok, thank you--that worked, but it doesn't make sense.
The server's been operational for months without winbind. Did something
change in Samba that it won't operate now without it?
I specifically remember reading that winbind wasn't necessary and, in fact,
wasn't recommended with Samba 4 AD.

NTLMv2 - wrong password with samba?
I have samba 3.0.14-5 installed (installed via Fedora Core 4's Yum)
I have enabled "client NTLMv2 auth = yes" in smb.conf
When I run "ntlm_auth --username=user --domain=MYDOM" it connects fine
(change user and MYDOM to be my user and my domain)
When I run "ntlm_auth --username=user --domain=MYDOM --diagnostics" it
fails on all tests with "wrong password"

Re: Compiling the MFC using Winelib
Well, from my recent experience with Winelib, I can tell you this:
Winemaker currently sucks, and the makefiles it creates are
nonfunctional and you'll have to redo them by hand anyway.
Yeah. If I knew anything about how to fix it I just might be tempted to
do so :)
Thanks,

ssh-agent and rdist
Hi,
I'm having a real difficulty here, and I'll keep this very short; ask
for needed details. I've got two nearly identically configured RedHat 8
systems, call them A and B. I've generated keys with passphrases on
both, added the public key for B to ~/.ssh/authorized_hosts on A and
vice versa.
On either machine, I can use ssh-agent with no problems. In particular,

Package ismev, gpd.fit, and interpretation for statistics of extreme values
Dear All,
I have a question about package "ismev", its function "gpd.fit", and
interpretation of the results.
I used the package ismev to do an extreme value analysis on a fire
dataset. Two variables are used in the analysis. The focal variable is
acreage burned per fire, ranging from 1 to 5000 acres per fire. In
total, there are 69,980 observations. The date covers
