Problem authenticating against a W2K server
Hi there. I'm having a problem letting a Samba server (MYSAMBA) authenticate users (using "security = domain" and a "password server = MYPDC") against a Windows 2000 PDC (MYPDC). The Windows 2000 machine seems (I'm not 100% sure about this) to be configured to restrict anonymous and it seems to me that this is where the problem lies but don't know what to do. I

Multiple IP subnets and WINS server
I have a Linux box with two interfaces for the private LAN (eth0,eth1) and another one connected to the Internet. I have two subnets in my LAN (192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24) and eth0 and eth1 are the gateways of either subnet (192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1). I have a Samba server running in the Linux box, and this Samba server is at the same time the local master browser and a WINS server, there

is there a known exploit of Samba "reply_netbios_packet()" Buffer Overflow Vulnerability please ?
Hi, We're running samba 3.0.25a as a PDC on FreeBSD 6.1 in our office and few weeks ago, our samba PDC (and soon all the service hosted on this server) stop responding suddenly :-/ Everything went back to normal as soon as we disconnected from the network, all the hosts that were in the same room as the 10.0.0.20 host (after asking the domain user connected at that moment to this host, do

winxp + sp3 = samba-shared printer hangs the system
hi, since I upgraded some winxp-pro sp2 client to sp3, my samba-shared printers are no-longer usable :-/ With sp3, if I run notepad and choose the men? File-Print, the "print" window hangs and does not show any printer for about 1 minute! The same thing happens when I click on the men? Start-settings-Printer and faxes. With sp2, everything works correctly and I can browse all my

WINS server DMB and LMBs not communicating across subnet to update browse lists?
Referencing: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/network_administration_guides/samba_reference_guide/17_NetworkBrowsing_34.html I've got two subnets (192.168.2.1 and 192.168.1.1). All the machines on both subnets are running XP Home or Pro and are all part of the same workgroup (WORKGROUP). I've added an OpenSUSE box on x.x.2.1 and have set it as the WINS server with a very simple

Two WINS servers on different subnets
Hi If I connect two LANs (on different subnets) and want to use windows filesharing, I need a WINS server right? Can I have one server on both subnets and make them "talk to each other" ? The problem is that the two networks are connected through a VPN tunnel and I don't want to place a WINS server on just one of them in case the VPN tunnel is lost. I want the subnets to work

Browsing across subnets connected by a linux router without using WINS
Hi! We have the following scenario: Subnet 1 ======= Contains PDC for domain DOM1 all clients in this subnet belong to DOM1 Subnet 2 ======= contains PDC for domain DOM2 all clients in this subnet belong to DOM2 These two subnets are connected via a multihomed linux box set up as a router between these subnets. IP routing definately works ok. What we want to achive is, to have full NetBIOS

Linux CIFS client with Samba 2.0.x or 2.2.x ?
Hi. I am experimenting with the Linux CIFS client included with Linux 2.6.6, and I am having some problems. First, I tried to map shares from a Samba 2.0.10 server (old machine). Is this supposed to work at all? The mount succeeds, and I can traverse and list directories, but any attempt to open a file for reading results in "permission denied". The Samba server logs this message:

winbindd: wins, bcast and subnets and ways to get across those
I run two samba servers in a pure windows 2000 environment. I have two subnets: A server subnet and a client subnet, and one samba server stands in each one of them. My windows admins tell me that they do not run a wins server or a pdc-emulator on their machines. I run winbind successfully in the server subnet but fail to do so in the client subnet. the server subnet samba server finds the

Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing?
Hello, I have been searching for answers now more then a week, but I cannot find a proper solution. Please help me with this: Scenario: Two differnet subnetted networks (1 and 2) connected by a cipe tunnel between two linux Samba boxes over the internet. On network one (1) is a Windows NT PDC installed which currently is the DMB for it's domain (1). On network two (2) one of the linux

Problem with two subnets
Hello A really annoying question. I'm managing a high school network with two WinXP subnets (192.168.1.X and 192.168.3.X). These subnets are linked by a SUSE 9.3 server with two network cards and a Samba server (version 3.0.12-5 SUSE) acting as PDC. The /etc/smb/smb.conf has next lines: wins support = yes hosts allow = 192.168.3. 192.168.1. 127.0.0.1 interfaces = 192.168.3.2/24 192.168.1.2/24

WINS + multiple subnets + multiple domains
Hello After seeking solutions and fixes to the problem I'm experiencing and not finding any, I turn here. If there is no solution, please don't be shy to pointing out that too :-) The problem: I have multiple IP-networks with windows clients in them. Some are 95, most are 98, some 2000 and xps. Most networks have at least one NT4.0 server in them, some have more, some have none. Each

Re: Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing? (solved)
Hi everyone, I think I solved it: - I installed WINS on both sides on the PDC's (Samba on the one end, NT on the other). - On both subnets the clients are configured by dhcp to use their own PDC's WINS as their primairy WINS server and the WINS on the remote PDC as their "secondairy" WINS server. - TCPIP configuration on the Windows NT PDC configured to use it's own WINS

WINS over multiple subnets
Hello, everybody! I have two networks (192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0) connected across a wireless router with two NICs. I can ping everything allright via ip address, but not by name across subnets. Things on the same subnet ping allright by name. Here are the smb.conf files for my two master browsers: #(192.168.1.249) [global] workgroup = THEBAND netbios name = Yesteryear

Member server - group and user mapping with winbind
I now have one PDC (Samba 3.026a on Solaris 10) and several member servers (including Samba 3.026a on Solaris 9 and 10, and Samba 3.024 on Fedora core 6.) Each machine uses NIS for unix accounts. If I start smbd and nmbd on a member server, I can connect to a share from a windows 2000 or XP client. If I look at the permissions on a folder, if shows "Unix Account/someuser" or
