Hi everybody!
I have a problem wich has pusseled me for sometime time.
I have put samba on an internal subnet wich is the same as the
windowsclients. Everything works great as long as internet is up and
running but if internet goes down then the windowsclients can't find the
sambaserver or just simly times out when trying to log in.
On one installation I have a netgear router wich handels

Version 2.2.6 and above are not able to store big files over 2GB
Hello,
when I store a file biger than 2GB to a samba server version 2.2.5
everythink works fine. But when I do that with a server version 2.2.6 or
2.2.7 the saving fails on the 2GB limit. The problem can be seen with
windowsclients or with smbclient (any version > 2.2.5).
I did some debuging and find that the lseek64 fails. But I didn't find the
reason.

Folder Redirection, Roaming Profiles and Working Offline
Hi,
I have been trying to use samba for a while as a way to have an
identical desktop/startmenu/profile/favourites/etc on multiple PCs.
Samba is setup as the PDC and I can join the domain and login.
The problems started firstly when I wanted to have some sort of caching
and also logon concurrently to different pcs with the same user. The
main problem being that whichever computer I log off

Problem joining Windows machine to domain managed by Samba PDC
Hi, I am running into a problem that seems to occur to a lot of people, but
I haven't yet worked out what the solution is. I have Samba version 3.0.3
installed in a Linux box (let's call it linuxserver) and I want it to run a
Windows domain so that I can manage machines and users. I have a Windows box
(call it windowsclient, running Windows 2003 Server) that I'd like to join

Help! WinXP failed to logon via Samba
I got a NT PDC and an Samba server (ver. 2.2.3a) that participates in the domain
'NT_DOMAIN'.
The Samba server provide file and print sharing to my private network, but it
authenticates user indirectly via the 'NT_1' PDC.
All the PC clients (Win98) were configured to logon to "workgroup" instead of
domain. This has been always fine until some guies brought in XP Home

Samba/WinXP domain-logon
I'm trying to use my samba as domain controller and logon-server for my
WinXP-client. I can see all the shares, and get access to them using
user/password, but when trying to join the domain, it fails with "The
specified user does not exist", even though it does.
The server-log says "smbd/server.c:exit_server(458)".
Can anyone help?

unsuccessful domain logon on WinXP with nss-mysql
Dear Colleagues,
I successfully installed Samba-3.0.14a-Debian for a set of Windows 98
workstations for ~900 users in a grammar school in Hungary. I am using
nss-mysql-1.0 for authentication and Samba also uses it perfectly.
Unfortunately, I have no success in the same network under Windows XP. If I
try to use standard Unix authentication via /etc/{passwd,shadow,group}, then
I also have correct

winbind offline logon = yes - stored credentials questions
If I set winbind offline logon = yes in my smb.conf file and I have my
Linux box authenticating directly against an AD controller, where, and
how, does samba store the user's credentials? And are the
credentials encrypted? If yes, use what scheme? I could read more on
this, too, but for how long are they cached?
Thanks.

winbind offline logon
Hello,
I'd like to have more information about the winbind offline logon.
Could I for example use pam_winbind on a linux system (domain member)
for ssh, this works fine (the PDC is samba also). What I understood is
that if I stop my PDC, I should still be able to connect with ssh as it
uses pam_winbind. But that doesn't work :(

Linux offline logon
We have our linux servers setup to authenticate against Windows AD using
idmap config DOMAIN: backend = RID
When a domain user logins to the system, all works fine, if its their
first time loggin in then their home directory is created, and by using
RID backend, all UIDs are consistent across all Linux servers.
If we stop winbind, processes running under the username no longer show
username, but

samba 3.5.6 offline logon?
Hi,
Is anybody successfully using offline logon with samba 3.5.6? I've set
everything up as per the documentation but even if I manually set
winbind offline using "smbcontrol winbindd offline" I cannot logon if
I disconnect the machine from the network.
To enable offline logon I added the following settings:
/etc/samba/smb.conf
winbind offline logon = yes
winbind reconnect

offline logon with AD
Hi
yesterday I configured my laptop to login via AD usernames/passwords.
This was working finally with using the sadms. Now I want to enable
login when the user is not connected to the network. I found that you
need to enable "winbind offline logon = yes" in the smb.conf. But
actually this is not working.
I'm using ubuntu 11.10 and whenever I logon via the desktop i get

thanks Mike, have you tried the workaround I suggest i.e. remove
krb5_ccache_type=FILE from the winbind row of the file
/etc/pam.d/common-auth?

winbind offline logon
Hi Piviul,
Unfortunately, I didn't know about the workaround before I switched over to
sssd and now that I have that setup and working well in a production
environment, I'd rather not mess with it. That being said, if I get a
little free time, I will try the workaround in a VM and let you know if it
does the trick.

from man smb.conf:
SECURITY = ADS
In this mode, Samba will act as a domain member in an ADS realm.
