Windows member servers have lost their minds...
Hello all...
I'm having a serious problem after a Samba upgrade from 3.0.20 to
3.0.23c.
A bit of background: I have a network with a Samba PDC and several
member servers running Windows 2000 server.
I upgraded my PDC from Mandrivalinux to RHEL5, which (obviously)
included a Samba upgrade.
I renamed the old server to a different hostname and IP address, and
disabled Samba on it, then I copied

My situation
I am using VirtualBox. Windows 7 Home is the host. Fedora 13 is the guest.
My goal is to cause the Fedora guest to expose an smb share to the Win 7
host and have the Win 7 host mount the share as a drive.
My procedure:

server signing = mandatory aix 6.1 (abridged debug)
Using samba 3.5.12 on aix 6.1 when I set "server signing = mandatory"
nothing can connect to my server. Included the smb.conf followed by errors
showing up in the level 10 debug output.

Fedora 14, Samba and connection problems - passwords
I have just replaced an old FC9 server with a new FC14 server as the old one
died. Before it died I was having trouble authenticating connections to it.
Now I have the new server running I'm still suffering the same problem.
Setting up a user and setting the password gives no errors, but then
connections fail complaining about the password. It is very much a virgin
vanilla setup. All I

pdbedit password policy - not updating ldapsam
I have Samba and LDAP up and running, but I'm having problems editing the
password policy using pdbedit.
(I'm running 3.0.22)
I've had a look at the man page for pdbedit but I don't really fully
understand what it does in relation to passwd backends. Does pdbedit update
just one backend and expect a user to export the updates to other backends?
I think I've set up ldap as

pdbedit and tdbsam
I'm having trouble using pdbedit to add user to a
tdbsam database. I'm running Redhat Enterprise Linux
ES 3.0, with the stock version of samba. I'm not sure
why it won't let me add users. I tried it with
smbpasswd and that didn't work either. Anyway here's
a plethora of information:

pdbedit and root SID/RID
Hi
I've been reading every documentation available for creating smb domain
groups and users, mapping domain groups and users... still learning...
Every document I read states that root should be modified to RID 500, by
running ' pdbedit -U `net getlocalsid | cut -d ":" -f2 | tr -d ' '`-500
-u root -r', but I always get root to RID 1000 and its domain group RID

pdbedit - RID for machine accounts
Hi,
I've tried to search for the problem on the lists without finding a
solution.
I'm trying to recreate a crashed PDC system on a new system with samba
3.0.4. It is a small domain and I use tdbsam as a backend. No LDAP (yet ;).
I could actually retrieve the old SIDs from a backup file, and also the
smb.conf file. All other files was though lost :(
I managed to give the new domain (PDC)

pdbedit handles samba domain name incorrectly
Hi folks.
I discovered this odd behaviour a few days ago while playing with SAMBA_3 for
the first time. The following points apply to samba-3.0.0beta and to
cvs-20030807.
1. (tested with tdbsam)
If I create a user entry with pdbedit, the domain name field is not set to the
domain specified in the configuration file. For me it's getting set to the
local machine name. If I logon to a

Unable to update SID using pdbedit
Since I have had trouble getting the net rpc vampire command to
properly migrate passwords, I have been looking into stripping down
the net rpc samdump results into a smbpasswd backend file, then
importing from there into my tdbsam.
The first problem I ran into is that the samdump produces RID values
from the domain, whereas I need it to represent UIDs that already
exist. No problem, since my
