Can copy to test share, but not read, move or delete
I have a new SentOS 5 system and have been having problems with Samba. I had been able to access my test share but not my home share. Attempting to re-set thigns as describe by the "webmin configure samba" info resluted in being able to see everything but the home shares. I don't know if I could have copied or written to these other directories - didn't try. Continued

Need help configuering Dovecot to support folders that contain sub-folders and messages
Hi - Last year I set up a new CentOS 5 server and through the install process permitted it to set up dovecot as my IMAP server. ./dovecote --version returns "1.0.rc15" With the system up and running I moved the tar files of my old email accounts over and everything seemed to be just fine. Recently I have upgraded my primary workstation to a Mac Pro - and that of course has

Defaults of CentOS Install not working with SELinux
Following a hard drive corruption I have reinstalled the latest version of CentOS and all current patch files. For most applications I selected the default options. By doing this I expected that the packages would play nice with one another and I could customize as necessary. Setting SELinux to enforce I encountered all sorts of problems - but most were resolvable, save for Dovecot,

Yum update corrupted something badly - can only get access through SSH terminal or Webmin
Hey there - This morning I ran the yum updater through Webmin as I do every month or so - after about two hours I realized that I still had the same updating screen going - and no response. Seemed strange. Simple attempts to kill it didn't work so I sent a command to reboot the system - that seemed to work, till I turned on the monitor directly connected to the server - I saw this

Converting from MBOX to Maildir broke procmail and Spamassasin and halted incoming mail
I could use some help here - As I use Dovecot I started here when trying to figure out why I could not add new mail folders under my Mac's Mail program, but could under Thunderbird. It was quickly pointed out that my system was set up to use MBOX and not MAILDIR, and some helpful links and notes were sent back and forth giving me a good clue as to how to perform the conversion

samba-tool illegal instruction setting up Kerberos auth for http
Hi all, Has anyone noticed this behaviour in samba-tool? I was trying to do the Apache Single Sign on authentication: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Authenticating_other_services_against_AD#Apache_Single_Sign-On > root at bnedevdc0:~# samba-tool domain exportkeytab /root/httpd.keytab --principal=HTTP/svn.myrealm.mydomain at MYREALM.MYDOMAIN -d10 > INFO: Current debug levels: >

ADS Authentication - CLDAP request failed
I have a RHEL 5 system, with Samba 3.0.33 installed, that _used_ to authenticate against the corporate Active Directory system without any problems. However, about a month ago the connection broke, but the users didn't complain until some time went buy. I've spent quite a few hours trying to reconnect this system, but nothing works. I do not believe it is a simple configuration problem,

Failed to obtain server credentials, perhaps a standalone server?
Hello, we are running Samba 4.1.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit. Out of a sudden we weren't able to access the server. After we restarted the server, we found a running samba process, but no dns and kerberos. Starting Samba with "samba -i -M single" returned the following output: dreplsrv_partition[DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=companynet,DC=net] loaded

Tinc on OsX, slowly getting there....
I have now got the tinc demons (on network OFFICES) on BranchB and BranchA talking to each other, and I have been able to access services (like AFP, Apple file sharing) between the two hosts (in both directions), but not beyond the local network connected to BanchA. I am unclear which routing can be provided by tinc and which routing would I have to add manually. The aim is: BranchB is a

[homes] vs [homes$]
Hi all. Is it possible to have a generic share like [homes] that hides all user home dir shares by default by appending a "$" to them? I'd search the archives but they have not yet been tx'd. I realise there is "browse vs nobrowse" but I specifically need to have end users map to \\srv\user$ rather than \\srv\user. -- Mark

Samba4 (S4) [homes] special share availability
I mates, We'd like to know if the beta version of S4 with the s3fs file system now allow to use the [homes] "special" share. Are we now allowed to use it in smb.conf, and does it works like in S3, as the home share of the user is converted by it's username? Sorry for my approximate english. Cheers. Thank you for your work. Good luck. O.Bilhaut

map user homes to a windows share
Hello everyone, I've been tasked with setting up several computer labs in a school with Ubuntu workstations. I have successfully joined those workstations to the windows domain and set it up so they authenticate to the windows domain as well. My problem is that I need to figure out how to have each user's home folder on the Ubuntu boxes map to the users home folder on the windows

strange [homes] behavior
Hello I am having a very trippy time trying to get the [homes] share to work on my samba 3.0.3pre2-SuSE (SuSE 9.0) server working. Users home folders have been copied from an old sbs server to /data1/fileroot/PersonalFiles. Here is the [homes] section of my smb.conf: [homes] path = /data1/fileroot/PersonalFiles/%S valid users = %S admin users = MYDOMAIN\administrator browseable
